Beyond the Pixelverse is a Minecraft modpack, not a standalone server program. To host it, install the exact server pack for the edition you own, run the matching Minecraft version and loader, use Java 21, allocate enough memory, and make every player install the same client files. The original pack’s listed server pack is version 2.1 for Minecraft 1.19.2, while Beyond the Pixelverse 2 targets Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge. Those fixed versions must not be replaced with the latest Cobblemon release or generic 1.21.1 files.
What you are actually hosting
Cobblemon is the creature-collection mod. Beyond the Pixelverse is a curated CurseForge modpack that uses Cobblemon to create a themed Pokémon-like world. A modpack server therefore has three version layers that must agree:
- Minecraft itself.
- The mod loader, such as Fabric or Forge.
- The exact Cobblemon and modpack files.
Installing a current Cobblemon jar into an older Pixelverse server is not an upgrade; it creates a different, usually incompatible installation. The server and every client need the same pack release, loader, Minecraft version, Cobblemon version and required dependencies.
Choose the correct Pixelverse edition first

Search summaries captured on October 14, 2026 disagree about whether Cobblemon 1.8.0 or 1.8.1 is the latest 1.21.1 release. Do not copy either number into a Pixelverse setup. Check the official Cobblemon and CurseForge download pages at the time you install, and follow the version named by your chosen pack.

Requirements before installation
Java 21
Use a 64-bit Java 21 runtime. Older Java versions are reported to crash Cobblemon at startup. Verify the runtime before installing anything:
java -versionThe output should identify Java 21. If the command is missing or reports Java 8, 17 or another release, install Java 21 and ensure the server service or startup script points to that executable, not to an older copy elsewhere on the machine.
Server files and dependencies
For a Pixelverse installation, obtain the server pack that belongs to the exact modpack release. Do not copy only the client profile’s visible mods and assume that is a server pack; server packs commonly include configuration, scripts and a different set of client-only files.
For a current standalone Cobblemon server, place Cobblemon and its one required library in the server’s mods directory. Fabric installations also need Fabric API. Forge-family installations may require Kotlin or another dependency named in the pack manifest. Every required dependency must be present on the server and on each client.

These figures describe the Java heap, not the machine’s total memory. A computer with exactly 6 GB of physical RAM should not be given a 6 GB heap because the operating system, file cache and backup process also need memory.

Self-hosting a Pixelverse server
1. Create a dedicated server directory
Use a new directory such as cobblemon-pixelverse rather than mixing files with another Minecraft world. Keeping one pack per directory prevents an old loader, configuration file or mod jar from being reused accidentally.
2. Install the pack’s loader and server pack
Read the server pack’s included instructions and install the loader for its Minecraft version. The original pack’s 1.19.2 files and the sequel’s 1.20.1 Forge files are separate installations. Do not point a 1.20.1 Forge server at a 1.19.2 world directory, and do not substitute Fabric files unless that specific pack says to do so.
After extraction, inspect the directory for the expected loader files, mods, config and any pack-provided scripts. If the download contains a start script, use it first: it may set loader-specific arguments or install files that a generic command would miss.
3. Confirm dependencies
Compare the pack’s manifest with the server’s mods directory. A missing Fabric API, Kotlin library or required Cobblemon library commonly causes a load failure before the server reaches the “Done” message. Remove duplicate versions of the same mod; two versions of one dependency can fail just as surely as a missing one.

4. Accept the EULA and run a first boot
Start the server once, read the generated files, accept Minecraft’s EULA in eula.txt if you agree to it, and start it again. The first successful boot can take longer while the world and configuration files are generated. Stop the server with its console stop command rather than closing the terminal, so the world is saved cleanly.
5. Allocate memory with a predictable launch command
A commonly suggested small-server command is:
java -Xmx6G -Xms6G -jar server.jar noguiReplace server.jar with the actual loader jar or the filename specified by the pack. Set -Xmx to the maximum heap you selected and -Xms to a sensible initial heap; do not allocate all physical RAM. For a larger group, raise the value only after confirming that the host has memory left for the operating system and backups.
6. Test locally before opening the network
Join from the same computer using localhost, or from another device on the home network using the host computer’s private IP address. Walk around, load several chunks, capture or battle with Cobblemon creatures, and restart once. Testing locally isolates mod and loader problems from router problems.
Make the server reachable from outside your home
Minecraft’s default server port is TCP 25565. Players outside your network normally need a router port-forwarding rule that sends port 25565 to the computer running the server. The server’s firewall must also allow the Java process or that port.
- Give the server computer a stable private address on your home network, preferably through a DHCP reservation in the router.
- Create a port-forward rule for TCP 25565 to that private address.
- Allow the server application through the operating system firewall.
- Give remote players your public address and port, while local players continue using the private address.
- Test from a connection that is not on the same home network. A local test cannot prove that forwarding works.
If forwarding fails, check for carrier-grade NAT, a second router in front of the server, or an internet provider that blocks inbound connections. In those cases, a managed host or another approved network-access method may be easier than changing the pack.

What each player must install
Cobblemon is Java Edition only. Bedrock Edition clients cannot join this modded server. Each player should install the same Pixelverse profile that the server uses, including its Minecraft version and loader.
- Original Pixelverse server: use the original pack release and its 1.19.2 files.
- Pixelverse 2 server: use the 1.20.1 Forge profile when its compatible server pack is available.
- Standalone 1.21.1 Cobblemon server: use the server’s exact Cobblemon build, loader and required library.
Fabric API must be present on Fabric clients. Forge-family packs must include Kotlin or any other dependency listed by that pack. A client with the right mod names but a different build number can still be rejected during the handshake, so compare the complete mod list when troubleshooting.
Managed hosting alternatives
A managed host avoids home-router configuration and usually provides a control panel for installing a pack, changing memory and restarting the process. Availability and specifications can change, so verify the listing for your exact edition before paying.

Public server directories showed no active listing for either pack at the time of the captured search, but those directories can be stale. Treat them as discovery tools, not proof that a server is unavailable.

Back up before every change
Stop the server cleanly, copy the world directory and preserve the current mods, config and pack files before changing versions. Keep at least one backup away from the live directory. A backup made while files are being written can be incomplete, so use the console stop command first.

Change one variable at a time
Do not update Minecraft, the loader, Cobblemon and several add-ons simultaneously. Record the working pack version, make one change, boot-test, and retain the previous directory until players have connected successfully. For Pixelverse packs, prefer the pack maintainer’s update path over replacing individual mods with newer files.
Control access
Use a whitelist for a private group, grant operator privileges only to trusted administrators, and avoid distributing the server console or remote-access credentials. Keep the host operating system and Java runtime patched, but test updates against a backup because a runtime change can expose an incompatible mod.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The server crashes immediately
- Run
java -versionand confirm Java 21. - Confirm that the loader matches the pack: Fabric files cannot launch a Forge pack.
- Remove duplicate or wrong-version jars from
mods. - Check the crash report for a missing Fabric API, Kotlin library or required Cobblemon dependency.
- Restore the last known-good server directory if the failure began after an update.
Players see a version or mod-list mismatch
Compare the server and client pack profiles, not just the headline pack name. Verify Minecraft version, loader, Cobblemon build and every dependency. A player using a current 1.21.1 profile cannot join the original 1.19.2 Pixelverse server merely because both contain Cobblemon.
The server starts but is laggy or stops
- Check actual heap usage and increase the allocation only if physical RAM remains available.
- Reduce the number of simultaneous players or add-ons while testing.
- Keep backups and the operating system outside the Java heap budget.
- Restart after a clean stop and inspect the latest log for a repeating mod error.
Local players can connect but remote players cannot
The pack is probably working; investigate networking. Recheck the forwarding destination, firewall rule and public address. Test from a mobile connection or another network. If the internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, ordinary port forwarding may never expose the server.
A world will not load after changing packs
Restore the backup and return to the previous pack. A world created by one Minecraft or modpack version is not guaranteed to load safely in another. Test conversions on a copied world, never on the only live save.
A practical pre-launch checklist
- Edition selected: original Beyond the Pixelverse or Beyond the Pixelverse 2.
- Minecraft version matches the selected pack: 1.19.2 for the original listing or 1.20.1 Forge for the sequel.
- Java 21 is the runtime used by the startup script.
- Server pack, loader, Cobblemon build and dependencies match the pack manifest.
- At least 6 GB is available for a small group, with more for larger groups or add-ons.
- The server boots locally and saves correctly after a clean stop.
- TCP 25565 is forwarded only when outside players need access.
- Every player has the Java Edition profile with identical files.
- A tested backup exists before inviting players or changing versions.
Bottom line
The reliable way to host a Cobblemon: Beyond the Pixelverse server is to treat the pack as a fixed software bundle. Use its exact server pack, Minecraft version and loader; run Java 21; allocate roughly 6 GB for a small group and more as player count or add-ons grow; forward port 25565 only for remote access; and distribute the identical client profile. The original pack’s 1.19.2 server files and the sequel’s 1.20.1 Forge files are separate from the current 1.21.1 Cobblemon line, so verify the edition before downloading anything.
