To play the same audio in several rooms, use the WiiM Home app to place WiiM devices on the same network, choose one device as the group lead, and add the others as followers. The lead receives the music or an attached source such as a TV, CD player, turntable, or PC, then broadcasts that audio to the followers. For combinations you use repeatedly, save a persistent group. If one room is early or late, open Sound > Sync Audio on the affected device and run Auto Sync or set the latency manually.
What WiiM multi-room grouping does
A standard WiiM group is a synchronized playback set made in the WiiM Home mobile app. Every participating WiiM device and the phone running the app must be connected to the same local network. One device is the group lead; the remaining devices are followers. WiiM’s current multi-room guide describes the first device in the group as the group lead (WiiM Help Center, modified July 23, 2026).
The lead supplies the group’s audio stream. For network music, it handles the selected playback source. For a physical source, connect the source to the lead’s available input. Followers receive the lead’s audio and play it in sync, so you do not need to connect the turntable, television, CD player, or computer separately in every room.
Inputs vary by WiiM model and by the source. Check the specifications and input type for your exact device before buying cables or planning a connection; this setup does not establish that every model has every input.

Before you create a group
Confirm the network
- Install or update WiiM Home on your phone.
- Connect the phone to the same network used by all WiiM devices.
- Power on each device and confirm that it appears in WiiM Home’s Devices screen.
- Resolve any device that is offline before grouping. A device that is not visible to the app cannot be selected as a follower.
Choose the lead deliberately
Use as the lead the WiiM device that is connected to the source you want to hear. If you are streaming from an app or service, choose the room whose device you want to control as the lead. If the source is a TV, CD player, turntable, or PC, physically connect that source to the lead. The other WiiM devices in the group will receive the lead’s audio.
Check the source quality limit
WiiM’s multi-room playback is currently limited to 48 kHz / 16-bit audio, according to its July 23, 2026 help article. A higher-resolution source may therefore be delivered to the multi-room group at that limit.
How to make a WiiM group in WiiM Home
- Open WiiM Home. Make sure the phone and every participating WiiM device are on the same network.
- Open Devices. Find the WiiM device connected to your source, or the device you want to use as the group lead.
- Tap the chain-link icon on the lead device.
- Select the follower devices. Choose each additional WiiM device that should play the lead’s audio.
- Tap Done. WiiM Home creates the group with the selected lead and followers.
- Select the new group to begin playback. Use the group volume control to raise or lower all rooms together, or adjust an individual device’s volume when one room needs a separate level.
The lead remains the source endpoint for the group. To play a different external source, stop playback, connect or select that source on the appropriate lead, and create or modify the group with that device as the lead.
How external sources reach every room
Television, CD player, turntable, or PC
Connect the source to the lead’s supported input, then group the remaining WiiM devices from that lead in WiiM Home. The lead receives the physical input and sends it to the followers over the network. Because input options differ between models, verify the exact input—analog, optical, coaxial, USB, or another supported connection—in your device documentation rather than assuming that a particular port is present.

Network-streamed playback
For music selected within WiiM Home or a supported service, start playback on the lead and then select the group as the output. The followers mirror the lead’s stream. The multi-room limit of 48 kHz / 16-bit still applies.
What the other rooms do not need
Followers do not need a separate copy of the physical source. They only need to be powered, visible on the same network, and included in the group. If a room has no WiiM endpoint, add a compatible WiiM playback device for that room before attempting to include it.
Save a reusable persistent group
If you regularly combine the same rooms, save the combination instead of selecting followers every time.
- In WiiM Home, open Devices.
- Tap Groups.
- Choose Create Group.
- Select the WiiM devices that belong together and assign a name.
- Save the group, then select it later from the Now Playing output selector or the device link control.
WiiM states that persistent groups also appear in Spotify’s device list. The same help documentation says persistent groups do not appear in AirPlay, TIDAL, Amazon Alexa, or Google Home (WiiM persistent-groups guide, modified October 23, 2025). That visibility rule applies to persistent groups; do not assume every WiiM grouping mode is exposed identically in every third-party app.

Fix rooms that are not perfectly in time
Run Auto Sync first
- Open Devices in WiiM Home.
- Select the device whose timing needs correction.
- Open its settings and choose Sound > Sync Audio.
- Choose Auto Sync and allow the process to finish. WiiM says the automatic process may take around 30 seconds.
After Auto Sync, listen from a position where two rooms can be heard together. If the echo remains, use Manual Sync on the device that is out of time.
Set Manual Sync in the correct direction
- If a speaker plays behind the others, increase its latency.
- If a speaker plays ahead of the others, decrease its latency.
Make a small change, listen again, and repeat until the rooms align. The goal is not to make every device use the same number; it is to compensate for the delay introduced by each playback path.
Account for output hardware
WiiM notes that analog outputs typically add no delay, while digital outputs such as coaxial or optical usually introduce latency and can sometimes exceed 50 ms (WiiM audio-delay guide, modified June 12, 2025). A room using a digital connection may therefore need a different manual latency setting from a room using an analog output.

Bluetooth is a special case
WiiM separately warns that a WiiM device connected to a Bluetooth speaker may be out of sync with the rest of a group. Bluetooth adds its own wireless buffering, and a delay adjustment cannot guarantee perfect alignment in every combination. For the most consistent multi-room timing, use a directly connected, supported playback path where possible.

Use two WiiM devices as a left/right stereo pair
You can create a two-device group and assign one device to the left channel and the other to the right channel with the channel control. This is different from simply playing the same mono signal in two rooms: each device handles one side of the stereo image.
- Create a group containing exactly the two WiiM devices.
- Open the group’s channel control.
- Assign one device to Left and the other to Right.
- Play a familiar stereo recording and verify that the channels are on the intended sides.
The general WiiM guide explains this setup but does not establish compatibility for every WiiM model. Check the documentation for the exact pair before treating two particular models as a supported stereo configuration.

WiiM’s LMS article, modified July 14, 2026, lists all WiiM devices except WiiM Mini, WiiM Sub Pro, and WiiM Vibelink Amp as compatible with Squeezelite. LMS and the devices must share a network, and playback is controlled by an LMS-compatible app rather than WiiM Home (WiiM LMS Group Playback guide).

Do not run LMS grouping at the same time as WiiM multi-room grouping. WiiM explicitly warns against using both systems together because they are separate synchronization and control paths.

Troubleshoot a group that will not work
A device does not appear in the follower list
- Check that the phone and the missing WiiM device are on the same network, not separate guest or isolated networks.
- Confirm the device is powered and appears individually under Devices.
- Close and reopen WiiM Home, then try the chain-link control again.
- If the device still cannot be found, resolve its network connection before changing audio settings.
The group plays only in the lead room
- Reopen the lead’s chain-link control and verify that each intended follower is selected.
- Tap Done after making the selection; leaving the picker without saving does not create the group.
- Check the follower’s own volume and mute state. Group volume and individual volume can be adjusted separately.
An external source is silent
- Verify that the source is physically connected to the device acting as lead.
- Confirm that the lead is set to the correct input and that the source itself is producing audio.
- Check the model’s supported inputs; the presence of a WiiM device does not imply support for every source connector.
There is an echo between rooms
- Identify which room is early and which is late by listening to a steady voice or percussion track.
- Run Auto Sync on the affected device.
- If needed, use Manual Sync: increase latency for the room behind and decrease it for the room ahead.
- Look for a digital output that may add more than 50 ms, or a Bluetooth speaker that WiiM warns may drift from the group.
The saved group is missing from another app
Check whether you are looking for a persistent group in AirPlay, TIDAL, Amazon Alexa, or Google Home. WiiM’s documented behavior is that persistent groups are available through WiiM Home and Spotify but not those other platforms. Select the group from WiiM Home or Spotify instead.
LMS and WiiM grouping interfere
Stop one grouping method before starting the other. LMS/Squeezelite is a separate system, has its own controller, and supports no more than two compatible WiiM devices.
Which setup should you choose?
Choose standard grouping when the rooms change
If today’s source is a turntable in one room and tomorrow’s source is a television in another, standard grouping is the flexible option. Make the device attached to the active source the lead, then select the followers when you start playback.

For a kitchen, living room, and patio combination that you use repeatedly, save a named persistent group. Remember that its documented app visibility is limited to WiiM Home and Spotify.
Choose LMS only for an LMS-based system
LMS/Squeezelite makes sense when you already operate an LMS server and prefer an LMS-compatible controller. It is not an expansion of WiiM Home grouping: it has different compatibility rules, a two-device maximum, and cannot be used simultaneously with WiiM multi-room grouping.
Choose stereo channel assignment for one listening position
Use the left/right channel control when two devices are intended to form a stereo pair. Confirm model compatibility first; for separate rooms, leave the devices as normal multi-room followers instead.
