To connect a smart LED TV to Wi-Fi, open its network settings, select your home network name (SSID), enter the password, and confirm. Menu labels vary by brand, model, year, and software version. A conventional LED TV without smart networking cannot connect by itself; use a compatible streaming device instead.
What you need before connecting
- Your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.
- A smart TV with built-in Wi-Fi, or a streaming device connected to the TV.
- The TV within range of the router, with the router providing internet access.
Check the TV’s manual if you are unsure whether it has Wi-Fi or which network bands it supports. TV menus and capabilities are not universal; instructions can differ by model, software version, and region.
How do I connect my LED TV to Wi-Fi?
Use the TV’s network setup screen, then follow the labels shown on your particular model. These examples illustrate common paths, not universal menus.

Samsung TV example
- Using the remote’s directional pad, open Settings > General > Network > Open Network Settings.
- Choose the Wi-Fi network you want to use.
- Enter its password, then select Done and OK.
Samsung notes that menu paths can differ on newer model years. If those labels do not appear, use the on-screen network settings or the manual for the exact model. See Samsung’s TV network connection guidance.

See Roku’s instructions for connecting a streaming device to the internet.
LG and Sony TVs
Follow the network setup labels on the screen or consult the model-specific manual. LG’s directions distinguish older televisions—2018 or earlier running webOS 4.0 or earlier—from other models. Sony also notes that the network settings needed can depend on the router or internet provider. See LG’s TV internet-connection guidance and Sony’s network setup guidance.

Why won’t my TV find my Wi-Fi network?
A missing network can mean the TV does not support the band the router is broadcasting. Check the exact TV model’s Wi-Fi specifications before changing router settings. For example, Samsung identifies certain 2018 NU7100/NU710D, NU7200, and NU7300/NU730D models as 2.4 GHz-only; this does not apply to every Samsung TV. Sony says 5 GHz support varies by model and region.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- If the TV supports 2.4 GHz, confirm the router is broadcasting a compatible 2.4 GHz network, then scan again.
- If the network is hidden, see whether the TV offers a manual option to add a network; not all models do.
- If the network still does not appear, consult the TV and router manuals or contact the router administrator or manufacturer.
Do not change router security, channel, or other advanced settings without guidance specific to the TV and router. See Samsung’s network guidance, LG’s connection instructions, and Sony’s network setup information.

Why does my TV say it’s connected to Wi-Fi but has no internet?
A Wi-Fi connection to the router does not by itself confirm that the router has working internet access. Check whether another device can get online through the same network. If it cannot, troubleshoot the home internet or router connection rather than repeatedly changing TV settings.
If other devices can get online, check the TV’s connection status or network diagnostic screen and follow any displayed error details. The names and locations of diagnostic screens vary by brand and firmware; Samsung, for example, provides network-status and IP-information routes in its support guidance. Roku also advises checking the connection and restarting devices when troubleshooting. See Samsung’s network diagnostics guidance and Roku’s connection-check guidance.

What to do if the TV will not connect or keeps disconnecting
Work through the checks in order, stopping when the connection is reliable.
- Re-enter the password. Check spelling and capitalization; Roku’s setup flow treats passwords as case-sensitive.
- Test internet access on another device. If that device also cannot get online through the same network, address the router or internet service first.
- Restart the TV and router. Turn both off, restart them, and try the connection again. Roku includes full restarts among its troubleshooting steps.
- Improve the signal. Reduce obstacles between the TV and router where practical, move devices away from sources of interference, and limit heavy Wi-Fi use on other devices while testing. Distance, congestion, and interference can all affect a connection.
- Try another supported band. If both the TV and router support more than one band, test the other one. Compatibility depends on the specific models; 5 GHz is not automatically the better option for every TV or location.
- Read the TV’s connection diagnostics. Use the status or diagnostic screen and act on its error information; menu names vary by model and firmware.
- Reserve a factory reset for last. Follow the model’s official reset instructions only after other checks. A reset removes settings and may mean configuring apps again; Roku treats it as an extreme troubleshooting step.
Roku’s connection-check guidance discusses restarts, signal conditions, and other possible connection problems. If the issue persists, consult the support page or manual for the exact TV model before changing advanced settings.

Can I connect my TV to the internet with an Ethernet cable?
Yes, if the TV or connected streaming device has an Ethernet port and a cable can reach the router. Ethernet is an optional wired alternative to Wi-Fi; check the ports on your equipment and measure the route before choosing a cable length.
Samsung’s instructions use the TV’s LAN port—or the One Connect Box LAN port on applicable models—and connect it to the router or modem. Roku also supports wired setup on some devices, but not every TV or streaming player has an Ethernet port. See Samsung’s instructions for wired and wireless connections and Roku’s internet setup guidance.
Should you upgrade the router?
Not as a first step. Check the TV’s band support, signal at its location, network congestion, possible interference, and whether the router itself has internet access. A newer router or mesh system may be worth considering only if coverage or interference problems continue after those checks; it is not a normal requirement for connecting a TV.
