On a Delta aircraft with onboard Wi‑Fi, put your device in Airplane Mode, turn Wi‑Fi back on, select DeltaWiFi.com, and complete the portal sign-in. If the page does not appear automatically, open a browser and enter deltawifi.com. Free Delta Sync Wi‑Fi requires signing in with a SkyMiles account; joining SkyMiles is free. Delta recommends connecting to the aircraft Wi‑Fi before signing in to a VPN.
Whether you will actually have service depends on the specific aircraft assigned to each flight. In Delta’s flight search, look for the “FREE WIFI FOR SKYMILES MEMBERS” badge, check your pre-flight email, and verify the aircraft-level information on Delta’s onboard Wi‑Fi page. Aircraft swaps and the continuing retrofit program mean an aircraft type alone is not a guarantee.
Check your exact Delta flight before you leave
Use flight-specific evidence first. Delta’s aircraft fleet is being retrofitted progressively, and two flights operated with the same broad aircraft type can have different Wi‑Fi products. For a connecting itinerary, inspect every leg separately because the aircraft, service type and login requirements can change at the connection.
1. Look for the free-Wi‑Fi badge in Delta’s search results
On delta.com, search your itinerary and look for “FREE WIFI FOR SKYMILES MEMBERS.” Delta uses that badge to identify an equipped flight offering Delta Sync Wi‑Fi. The badge is more useful than relying on a generic aircraft description because the assigned tail, retrofit status and service can change.

2. Read the pre-flight email
Delta says Wi‑Fi availability is also referenced in pre-flight emails. Check the message for each flight in your itinerary rather than assuming that an outbound flight’s service will be duplicated on the return or on a connecting segment.
3. Check Delta’s aircraft service list, with its limitations
Delta’s aircraft list and FAQ separates aircraft types that normally have fast, free Wi‑Fi from those that may use paid Wi‑Fi Onboard. An asterisk on the list means availability is limited to selected aircraft of that type. Selected 717 and CRJ aircraft appear in both categories, so the model name by itself cannot tell you whether a particular flight is free, paid or not equipped.
4. Check the aircraft at the gate
Delta says equipped aircraft display a “Fast, Free Wi‑Fi for SkyMiles Members” decal near the boarding door. You can also ask a flight attendant. This is a useful last check, but a gate-side confirmation still describes the aircraft currently assigned; an operational aircraft change can alter service.

Delta currently operates two Wi‑Fi experiences while its retrofit continues. Understanding the difference prevents a failed login or an unexpected pass purchase.
| Service | How you use it | What Delta says |
|---|---|---|
| Delta Sync Wi‑Fi | Join or sign in to SkyMiles through the onboard portal. | Free for SkyMiles members on equipped flights; Delta says membership is free and allows unlimited devices when you sign in on each device. |
| Wi‑Fi Onboard (formerly Gogo) | Use the onboard portal; a paid pass may be offered on eligible aircraft. | Messaging is free. Existing Wi‑Fi Onboard subscriptions continue to work on certain aircraft until they are retrofitted. |
| Retired pass types | Do not rely on older pass names. | Delta says Wi‑Fi Onboard All‑Day and Delta Global passes are no longer accepted on Delta flights. |
Delta says the same fast streaming speed is offered whether you connect with SkyMiles or purchase a pass on a flight where a pass is available. The difference is eligibility and payment, not a separate advertised speed tier. Do not buy a pass before checking which service your flight actually provides.
What should you budget?
Delta’s cited Wi‑Fi information does not publish one universal price for a paid Wi‑Fi Onboard session. A pass may be offered only on eligible legacy aircraft, and the portal presents the applicable choice after you connect. Therefore, treat “free Wi‑Fi” and “Wi‑Fi available” as different claims: the former refers to Delta Sync for SkyMiles members, while the latter can include a paid option. SkyMiles enrollment is free, but it does not turn a Wi‑Fi Onboard flight into a Delta Sync flight.

How to connect to Delta Wi‑Fi, step by step
- Wait until the boarding door closes and switch on Airplane Mode. This disables cellular transmission as required during flight.
- Turn Wi‑Fi back on. Airplane Mode and Wi‑Fi can be used together. Leave cellular service disabled.
- Select the aircraft network. Choose DeltaWiFi.com from the available Wi‑Fi networks. Select the exact network name shown by your device; do not join an unrelated hotspot.
- Open the sign-in page. The portal should appear automatically. If it does not, open a browser and type deltawifi.com in the address bar.
- Complete the correct sign-in. On a Delta Sync aircraft, sign in with your SkyMiles credentials or enroll for a free SkyMiles account. On a Wi‑Fi Onboard aircraft, follow the portal’s messaging or paid-pass choices.
- Connect a VPN only after Wi‑Fi works. Delta recommends establishing the aircraft Wi‑Fi connection before signing in to a VPN. A VPN that starts first can prevent the captive portal from loading.
- Repeat on every device you want to use. Delta says free Delta Sync Wi‑Fi can be used on an unlimited number of devices by signing in to SkyMiles on each device.
Delta supports most Wi‑Fi-enabled Android and iOS phones and tablets, plus macOS and Windows laptops. Your device must have a functioning Wi‑Fi adapter and a browser capable of displaying the portal.
What you can and cannot do after connecting
Unlimited devices applies to Delta Sync sign-ins
On an equipped Delta Sync aircraft, Delta says you can connect an unlimited number of devices by logging in to SkyMiles on each one. This does not mean every device can share one browser session; open the portal separately on each phone, tablet or computer.
Voice and video calls are not permitted
Delta says voice and video calls, including Wi‑Fi and VoIP calls, are not permitted during flight. Use text-based messaging and other activities allowed by the onboard service instead of starting a phone, FaceTime-style or VoIP call.
Do not assume a personal hotspot adds service
A phone hotspot, travel router, cellular booster or other accessory cannot create Delta’s aircraft Wi‑Fi. The service comes from the aircraft network and its satellite or air-to-ground connection. Bring a charged, Wi‑Fi-enabled device, but do not buy hardware expecting it to make an unequipped aircraft connect.
Prepare for a captive-portal session
The first connection is a browser-based authorization, not a normal home-router login. Keep a standard browser available, and complete the portal before launching work applications that require a VPN. If you use a private relay, custom DNS filter or aggressive ad-blocking profile, be ready to pause it while the sign-in page loads; these settings can intercept captive-portal traffic.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDelta Wi‑Fi coverage by region
Delta describes broad but uneven international coverage. Coverage indicates where the service is planned or generally available; it does not promise an uninterrupted connection on every flight or at every point along a route. Weather, satellite handoffs, aircraft equipment and local restrictions can affect the actual session.

| Region | Coverage described by Delta | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Contiguous United States | Full coverage | Most routes should have a service option when the assigned aircraft is equipped. |
| Hawaii | Full coverage | Verify the flight badge because aircraft equipment still controls availability. |
| Canada and Mexico | Full coverage | Coverage does not remove the need to check the specific aircraft. |
| Europe | Full coverage | International flights can use different aircraft and service products; check each leg. |
| Central America and the Caribbean | Full coverage | Actual service quality can vary during the flight. |
| Alaska | Limited coverage | Expect gaps and verify the route and aircraft before relying on connectivity. |
| South America and Africa | Majority coverage | “Majority” is not universal; treat the flight-level indicator as decisive. |
| Asia | No coverage stated on Delta’s page | Do not assume Wi‑Fi merely because the aircraft type normally supports it. |
Delta’s page warns that both coverage and service quality can vary. The safest plan for a work deadline or an important message is to download essential files and entertainment before departure.
Trans-Pacific service is in rollout, not universally live
On October 9, 2026, Delta announced regulatory approval to extend Delta Sync Wi‑Fi across trans-Pacific routes, with rollout beginning later that month and expanding progressively over the following weeks. That announcement did not mean every trans-Pacific flight was enabled on October 13, 2026. For a trans-Pacific itinerary, use the current flight-search badge, your latest Delta email and the aircraft information at the time of travel.
Because the retrofit is ongoing, a route announcement should not be treated as a guarantee for a particular departure date. Recheck close to departure and inspect each connection separately. A flight may cross a region described as covered yet still lack service if its assigned aircraft has not been retrofitted.

Which Delta aircraft types are listed for Wi‑Fi?
Delta’s onboard page currently lists the following aircraft categories. “Selected” means only some aircraft of that type have the service, so the model is not a flight-level guarantee.
| Fast, free Delta Sync Wi‑Fi listed | Paid Wi‑Fi Onboard listed |
|---|---|
| A220‑100 and A220‑300 | Selected 717 |
| A319 | Selected CRJ‑700 |
| A320 | Selected CRJ‑900 |
| A321ceo | Selected ERJ‑170 |
| A321neo | Selected ERJ‑175 |
| 737‑800 and 737‑900 | |
| 757‑200 and 757‑300 | |
| 767‑300 and 767‑400 | |
| A330‑200, A330‑300 and A330‑900neo | |
| A350‑900 | |
| Selected 717 | |
| Selected CRJ‑700 and selected CRJ‑900 |
The overlap for selected 717 and CRJ aircraft is important: those aircraft may appear in either the free Delta Sync or paid Wi‑Fi Onboard group depending on the individual airframe and retrofit status. Use Delta’s current aircraft list together with the flight-search badge rather than interpreting the table as a promise.
Why aircraft type is only a starting point
A fleet list identifies possibilities, not the exact equipment on your departure. An A321neo or A350‑900 is listed among the fast, free aircraft, while selected regional aircraft can fall into either the free or paid category. Delta can also substitute an aircraft after the booking is made. That is why the badge, email, gate decal and crew confirmation form a stronger sequence than a model name copied from an itinerary.

Troubleshoot a portal that will not open
The Wi‑Fi network is missing
- Confirm Airplane Mode is on and then manually enable Wi‑Fi.
- Move away from other passengers’ devices and rescan for DeltaWiFi.com.
- Ask a flight attendant whether the aircraft has Wi‑Fi and whether service has been activated yet.
- Check for an aircraft swap. A flight that showed the badge earlier can receive a different aircraft.
You are connected, but the sign-in page is blank
- Open a browser and enter deltawifi.com manually.
- Temporarily disconnect from a VPN, private relay, custom DNS filter or ad-blocking profile that intercepts captive portals.
- Close the browser tab, reconnect to DeltaWiFi.com, and try again.
- If it still stalls, use your device’s Wi‑Fi settings to select the network and choose Forget This Network; then reconnect and reopen deltawifi.com. Delta specifically suggests forgetting the network and reconnecting when a connection stalls.
SkyMiles login fails
- Check that the device has joined the aircraft network rather than a saved airport or hotel network.
- Enter the SkyMiles credentials again after the portal fully loads.
- If you do not have an account, use the portal’s free enrollment option.
- For a connection, verify that you are not trying to apply a Delta Sync login to a Wi‑Fi Onboard leg that requires a paid option.
The connection drops in flight
Coverage gaps can occur, particularly in regions Delta describes as limited or majority coverage. Keep the Wi‑Fi radio enabled and reconnect when the portal becomes available. Do not assume a dropped session means your device is defective; aircraft location, handoffs and service availability can change during the route.
Connecting on a multi-leg itinerary
Each leg is effectively a separate Wi‑Fi decision. Before travel, record whether each segment shows the free badge, and do not assume the same SkyMiles experience at the connection. On board, repeat the network selection and portal process after changing aircraft. A paid Wi‑Fi Onboard segment may follow a free Delta Sync segment, or the reverse. If you need uninterrupted work access, download files locally and plan for the possibility that one leg has no usable service.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How much confidence should you place in Delta’s rollout numbers?
Delta reported more than 1,200 aircraft equipped with fast, free Delta Sync Wi‑Fi and more than 160 million customer sessions logged since the program launched in 2023 in a May 14, 2026 Delta News Hub article. On October 9, 2026, Delta reported nearly 1,300 Wi‑Fi-equipped aircraft, representing more than 95% of its fleet. These are Delta-reported figures from different publication dates, so they should not be combined into one precise current count.
Delta’s rollout announcement quoted Ranjan Goswami, Delta’s senior vice president of Customer Experience Design, describing the company’s progress toward bringing fast, free Wi‑Fi to every aircraft. That is a statement about Delta’s program, not an independent measurement of speed, reliability or coverage. For operational decisions, the flight-level badge and current onboard information matter more than a fleet-wide percentage.
A practical pre-flight checklist
- Search each flight on delta.com and look for “FREE WIFI FOR SKYMILES MEMBERS.”
- Read the latest pre-flight email for every segment.
- Check Delta’s aircraft list and note any “selected aircraft” qualification.
- Make sure your phone, tablet or laptop is charged and Wi‑Fi capable.
- Join SkyMiles before boarding if you want free Delta Sync access.
- Download critical work, maps and entertainment in case the route has a gap or the aircraft changes.
- After boarding, look for the decal near the door and ask the crew if the aircraft’s service is unclear.
For official connection steps, supported devices, service distinctions and the latest aircraft information, use Delta’s onboard Wi‑Fi instructions and FAQ. Delta’s route and aircraft rollout changes over time, so rechecking shortly before departure is the most reliable way to know what your particular flight will provide.

Is Delta Wi‑Fi free?
Delta Sync Wi‑Fi is free for SkyMiles members on equipped flights, and SkyMiles membership is free. Some aircraft still use Wi‑Fi Onboard, where a paid pass may be offered; Delta does not publish one universal price for those passes.
How can I tell whether my specific flight has free Wi‑Fi?
Look for the “FREE WIFI FOR SKYMILES MEMBERS” badge in Delta flight search, check the pre-flight email, consult Delta’s aircraft list, and look for the Fast, Free Wi‑Fi decal near the boarding door.
Can I use Wi‑Fi on every Delta aircraft of a listed type?
No. An asterisk or “selected” label means only some aircraft of that type are equipped. Selected 717 and CRJ aircraft can appear in both free and paid categories, so verify the individual flight.
How many devices can I connect?
Delta says Delta Sync members can use an unlimited number of devices by signing in to SkyMiles separately on each device.
Can I make calls over Delta Wi‑Fi?
No. Delta says voice and video calls, including Wi‑Fi and VoIP calls, are not permitted during flight.
Why did Wi‑Fi disappear during my flight?
Coverage, aircraft location, satellite handoffs, equipment and regional limitations can cause gaps. Keep Wi‑Fi enabled and try reconnecting when the portal becomes available.
Do older Delta Wi‑Fi passes still work?
Delta says existing Wi‑Fi Onboard subscriptions continue to work on certain aircraft until retrofit, but Wi‑Fi Onboard All‑Day and Delta Global passes are no longer accepted on Delta flights.
The Bottom Line
Check the exact flight, not just the aircraft family: the Delta search badge and latest email are the best advance indicators. On board, use Airplane Mode, select DeltaWiFi.com, open deltawifi.com if necessary, and sign in to SkyMiles for free Delta Sync access. Because retrofits, aircraft assignments and international coverage change, keep offline copies of anything essential and verify every leg close to departure.
