To get Mafia III running with the Series X|S 60 FPS upgrade, install Mafia III: Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S—the Xbox Store lists it separately from the Xbox One version. The upgrade is tied to that edition; the available sources do not describe a frame-rate setting you can switch on in the Xbox One game.
Find and install the Series X|S edition
- On the Xbox dashboard, open the Store search and look for Mafia III: Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S. That is the edition name used in the Xbox Store listing.
- If you cannot find it in your library, press Y on the Xbox dashboard, type Mafia iii, and select Mafia iii Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S.
- Choose Show in Store to open the product page. If your account is eligible, the page should offer the option to install.
- After installation, check that you installed the Series X|S edition, not the separately listed Xbox One game.
The dashboard search route and the conditional installation offer are reported by Pure Xbox; they are practical navigation guidance, not an official Microsoft support walkthrough. Store layout and the offer shown can vary. If the Store does not recognize your ownership, contact current Xbox or 2K support rather than relying on an unverified workaround.
Make sure you have the right edition
The Xbox Store lists Mafia III: Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S separately from the Xbox One game. The Series X|S listing says it includes 60 FPS gameplay and technical improvements. Installing or launching the Xbox One edition is not the same as installing the Series X|S edition; look at the edition name on the Store page before downloading.

The Series X|S listing also includes the main game, story DLC, and bonus packs. The Store identifies 2K as publisher and Hangar 13 as developer.

What the 60 FPS upgrade changes—and what it does not
The Xbox Store describes the Series X|S edition as offering 60 FPS gameplay. Pure Xbox also reports fixes and improvements to achievement tracking, story progression, visual consistency, stability, the user interface, and gameplay issues.
Do not expect every cinematic to run at 60 FPS: the report says many real-time cinematics run at 60 FPS, while prerendered movie sequences remain at 30 FPS. A lower frame rate in one of those sequences does not by itself mean the Series X|S edition failed to install.

Ownership and disc limitations
Pure Xbox reports that digital owners may need to find the Series X|S edition manually in the Store. Whether the product page offers installation depends on account eligibility.
The same report mentions Xbox Disc to Digital as a possible route for disc owners, but does not establish that physical-disc owners generally qualify. Do not assume a disc guarantees access to the Series X|S edition. An Xbox Series S has no disc drive, so it cannot read a physical game disc.

Save data and achievements
The available information does not establish whether Xbox One save data transfers to the Series X|S edition or whether achievements are shared between editions. Do not count on either without confirmation for your account and game versions; check with Xbox or 2K support if save continuity or achievement progress is essential before switching editions.
