Valor Mortis is a first-person Soulslike from One More Level, published by Lyrical Games. The publisher lists an October 13, 2026 launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam; the US PlayStation Store listing describes a single-player PS5 version with DualSense vibration and trigger-effect support. Lyrical Games’ September 30, 2026 gameplay overview describes parrying, counterattacks, weapon variety, Transmutations, and Lantern upgrades.

- Watch an opponent’s attack sequence before committing. Notice when an attack begins and when the enemy appears open afterward.
- Choose one response, such as a strike or a defensive action, instead of chaining several actions automatically.
- Pause when your stamina is low and let the encounter’s rhythm guide your next move. Do not assume a particular recovery rate; the cited official overview does not give one.
- If you are repeatedly caught while attacking, shorten your commitment and preserve more stamina for defense.
This is a low-risk pacing approach, not a claim about a universal combo or cancel rule. The available official material does not document whether attacks can be canceled or give exact recovery behavior.
How to practice parrying and counterattacks
The publisher presents parrying and counterattacks as part of the intended combat loop. - Confirm the parry input in the game’s controls for your platform and current control scheme.
- Practice against one predictable enemy attack rather than trying to parry every move in a fight.
- Respond to the attack’s animation and rhythm, then adjust based on whether the game registers the parry.
- When a parry succeeds, use the opening for a counter if it is safe; do not assume the opening lasts a fixed number of frames.
If parrying is not working consistently, spend a fight learning the opponent and use a more comfortable defensive response where possible. The aim is to turn defense into a deliberate opening, not to force a parry on every attack.
Choose a weapon for distance and comfort
Lyrical Games says weapon choice and matching weapons to enemies reward a thoughtful approach. Its overview gives two examples with distinct roles:

Those descriptions do not establish universal damage rankings or a best beginner weapon. Try to match your choice to the encounter and the distance at which you can comfortably read attacks. A fan-maintained guide also describes a Rapier as lacking a block and relying on well-timed parries, with an ability to hit weak points without firearm ammunition; treat those details as secondary guidance and verify them in the current build.
Use Transmutations to add options
Transmutations are left-hand abilities that broaden combat beyond weapon attacks. The publisher describes them as tools for damage, buffs, debuffs, and traversal, with Fire, Shield, and Grapple among its examples. Think about what problem you need to solve: an offensive option, a defensive tool, an effect on an opponent, or a way to move through the environment. The overview does not provide enough detail to rank these abilities or prescribe a single starting choice.

Spend upgrades on the problem you are having
At Lanterns, Catalysts can be spent to improve health, stamina, or parry, while Ambers help customize a build, according to the publisher’s overview. Use that choice to address a specific source of trouble rather than copying an unsupported “best build.”

- If you often run out of stamina before you can react, consider improving stamina.
- If you are deliberately learning the parry loop, consider whether the parry upgrade supports that approach.
- Use Ambers to shape the build around the style that is working for you.
Why demo-era advice may not fit the launch game
One More Level and Lyrical Games said the public demo used bespoke chapters and was not representative of final polish and balance. Their official Steam announcements also discuss development work on combat readability, hitboxes, staggering, boss difficulty, and performance. That makes demo-specific boss difficulty or timing advice especially uncertain for the launch version. Community guides updated shortly before launch can offer ideas, but may include demo or pre-alpha information; treat them as pointers, not definitive launch-build specifications.

The publisher’s September 30, 2026 announcement lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, with an October 13, 2026 launch date. It announced US prices of $39.99 for the Standard Edition and $59.99 for the Deluxe Edition; these are announcement prices, not a guarantee of the current price in any storefront. The same announcement quoted €39.99 and 149.99 zł for Standard, and €59.99 and 199.99 zł for Deluxe, in its other listed markets. Check the relevant store for current availability and pricing. The official US PlayStation Store listing identifies the PS5 edition as single-player and notes DualSense vibration and trigger-effect support.
