If your Samsung tablet has no sound, play a video and check the media volume first. If that does not work, turn off Mute all sounds, check whether audio is going to a connected device, and restart the tablet. For missing alerts or calls only, check notification volume and Do not disturb instead.
Samsung’s menu names and available settings vary by model, software version, region, and carrier, so treat the paths below as common examples. Samsung notes that “Menu names, settings, and screen layouts may vary depending on the device model and software version.”
Start by identifying which sounds are missing
Test one known sound, such as a video, then notice whether the problem affects all audio, only alerts, one app, or the built-in speakers. That distinction points to the most relevant setting. After each change, play the same sound again so you can tell whether it helped.
- No media, alerts, or call audio: check Mute all sounds and audio routing.
- Videos play silently, but alerts work: check the media volume and output route.
- Only calls or notifications are silent: check their volume and Do not disturb.
- Only one app is silent, or sound is one-sided or muffled: check app routing, balance, and speaker openings.
Check the relevant volume slider
While a video is playing, press the tablet’s volume key to raise the volume. Then open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume and check the media slider. The volume keys do not necessarily control the sound category you need.

If notifications or system sounds are missing, inspect their sliders separately in the same Volume menu. Samsung distinguishes notification volume from system sounds such as button and touch sounds. A change to one category may not affect another.
Turn off Mute all sounds
If every kind of audio is missing—or the tablet will not let you adjust volume—check this accessibility setting. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements and turn off Mute all sounds, if those labels appear on your device.

Samsung says this feature mutes media, notifications, system sounds, and the other person’s voice during calls. Volume cannot be adjusted while it is enabled. If the setting is not at that path, search Settings for “Mute all sounds.”
Check Do not disturb for silent calls and alerts
Do not disturb can silence calls and notifications unless they are allowed exceptions. It is worth checking when media plays normally but calls or alerts do not come through; it is not the default explanation for silent video playback.

Open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb and turn it off temporarily to test. If you want to keep it on, review its permitted calls, notifications, and schedule instead.
Make sure audio is coming from the tablet
Audio may be routed to an accessory rather than the built-in speakers. Temporarily turn off Bluetooth and disconnect headphones or other wired audio accessories, then play the test sound again.

Only one app is affected
Check whether Separate app sound is sending that app’s audio to another output. Samsung’s common path is Settings > Sounds and vibration > Separate app sound. The setting may not be available on every model or software version.

Inspect the left/right balance under Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements. A balance shifted fully to one side can make audio seem missing from the other speaker or channel.

Sound is muffled or blocked
Remove the case or accessory temporarily and check that nothing covers the speaker openings. Do not insert objects into the openings; first test with the tablet unobstructed.

If the volume, accessibility, and routing checks do not restore sound, restart from the on-screen power menu when available, then test the same video again. Samsung advises that “A temporary system error may affect sound output.”
Samsung also documents a button-based restart for Galaxy devices, but the button combination can vary by model. Use the instructions for your specific tablet if the on-screen power menu is unavailable rather than assuming one combination works for every Galaxy Tab.

When the volume limit applies
If you hear a limit warning or headphone/Bluetooth volume seems capped, check Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume > More options > Media volume limit. Samsung describes this limiter as applying when headphones or Bluetooth speakers are in use. It is not the first setting to investigate when the tablet’s own speakers are completely silent.
If sound still does not return
If the same media remains silent through the built-in speakers after these checks and a restart, the settings steps have not established the cause. Consult Samsung support for guidance specific to your tablet model and software version, especially if the speakers appear physically damaged. Avoid assuming a replacement part is needed without a model-specific diagnosis.
