To get Plasteel in Palworld, reach Technology Level 50, spend 2 Technology Points to unlock it, and smelt it in an Electric Furnace. The listed recipe is 2 Crude Oil and 5 Ore for 1 Plasteel. Plasteel is not a normal ground pickup or a merchant purchase, so your reliable supply comes from an oil-and-ore production loop.
The material is a late-game bottleneck because Sakurajima-era high-tier equipment and spheres use it. Set up your Crude Oil production before you need a large batch, rather than waiting until a weapon or armor recipe is already blocking your progression.

How to unlock Plasteel
- Continue raising your character until the game shows Technology Level 50.
- Open the Technology screen and locate the Plasteel entry. Confirm that you have at least 2 unspent Technology Points.
- Spend the 2 points to unlock the recipe. If the entry is still locked, check your character level rather than the level of the Pal working at your base.
- After unlocking it, inspect the recipe again before committing resources. Recipe values can change in patches, and the in-game panel is the final authority for your installed version.
The level gate is a character-progression requirement. Finding an Electric Furnace or assigning a high-level worker does not bypass it. A save that has reached the required level but has already spent its points elsewhere must earn or otherwise obtain two more Technology Points before the recipe can be learned.
What you need to make Plasteel
Crude Oil
Crude Oil is the strategic input because every unit of Plasteel consumes two units of it. The official technology index lists both a Crude Oil Extractor and a High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor. Those technologies support an oil-production loop; they do not turn Plasteel into a mineable resource.
#1 Best Overall
Ore
Each Plasteel also consumes five Ore. Ore is a separate input from Crude Oil, so an oil-producing base still needs an ore supply from mining, transported stock, or another base. Keep the two materials in storage near the furnace so a worker is not constantly walking across the settlement to fetch one missing ingredient.
Electric Furnace and power
The Electric Furnace is the required processing station. It must be built, supplied with electricity, and staffed by a suitable base worker before a craft can run. The cited item and technology records establish the station and ingredients but do not publish a universal production-time figure. Do not plan around an assumed number of seconds: throughput depends on the game version, your base setup, and the worker assignment.

Step 1: Reach the unlock threshold
Reach Level 50 and reserve 2 Technology Points. If you are close to Level 50, avoid spending the last points on optional technologies until Plasteel is unlocked. The requirement is specifically the Plasteel technology entry, not merely access to late-game construction.
Step 2: Build or activate an Electric Furnace
Place an Electric Furnace at a base with a functioning power supply. Connect or provide the power source required by your version of Palworld, then verify that the furnace is operational rather than merely placed. A furnace without power cannot process the recipe.
Step 3: Prepare the inputs
Move Crude Oil and Ore into the same base, or make sure your storage and transport route can deliver both. The recipe ratio is fixed at 2 Crude Oil to 5 Ore for one Plasteel. Use that ratio to calculate a shopping list before you start:
| Plasteel target | Crude Oil required | Ore required |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 | 5 |
| 5 | 10 | 25 |
| 10 | 20 | 50 |
| 25 | 50 | 125 |
| 50 | 100 | 250 |
The larger quantities in this table are simple multiples of the listed one-unit recipe, not separate recipes. Check the furnace interface if a patch has changed the displayed inputs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesStep 4: Assign a worker and queue the craft
Assign a Pal with the work suitability the Electric Furnace accepts in your version, then open the furnace and select Plasteel. Add the quantity you can support with your available oil and Ore. If the queue will not start, inspect the three usual gates: the recipe is unlocked, both materials are present in valid storage, and the furnace has power and an eligible worker.
Step 5: Move the finished material into protected storage
When processing finishes, store Plasteel in a location reserved for high-tier crafting. It feeds multiple weapon, armor, and equipment records, so spending the entire first batch on one project can leave you short for the next unlock. Keep a reserve sized to the next recipe you intend to build rather than treating every finished unit as immediately disposable.
How to farm Crude Oil for Plasteel
There is no merchant shortcut for Plasteel, and the recipe consumes Crude Oil directly. Oil therefore determines how quickly you can scale production. The official technology documentation identifies two extractor technologies, so your oil plan should follow the extractor options available in your save.
Build the oil side of the loop first
- Unlock the Crude Oil Extractor technology when it becomes available in your Technology screen.
- Choose a base where the extractor can be placed according to the placement rules shown by your game. The supplied records do not establish one universally best map location, so treat location advice as version- and route-dependent rather than permanent.
- Provide the extractor with the power and worker support it requires. Confirm that oil is entering storage before you connect the furnace to the same logistics chain.
- If your technology screen offers the High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor, compare its displayed requirements and output in your version. The technology is officially listed, but a universal production speed is not established here.
- Transport or assign the produced oil to the base that contains your Electric Furnace. A dedicated oil base can work, but it adds travel and storage handling; a combined base reduces transfers but must support mining, extraction, power, and processing simultaneously.
Keep extraction and smelting from competing for power
Both an extractor and an Electric Furnace depend on a stable power setup. If the furnace repeatedly pauses while oil production is active, check the power status of each structure and the workers assigned to them. Add capacity or separate the jobs according to the options available in your version instead of assuming that a larger storage box will solve a power interruption.
Use a batch schedule when oil is limited
When Crude Oil is the bottleneck, queue Plasteel in batches that match your actual stock. For example, 10 Plasteel consumes 20 oil and 50 Ore; queuing more than that only leaves a waiting list unless extraction continues. A small, predictable queue is easier to audit than a long queue that silently stalls after the oil runs out.
Rank #2
How to maintain the Ore supply
Ore is consumed at 5 per Plasteel, so it can become the visible bottleneck even when oil production is healthy. Keep an Ore reserve in the furnace base and replenish it before beginning a large equipment run. If your mining and smelting facilities are in different bases, include travel time and transport capacity in your plan; the cited sources do not provide a guaranteed throughput for any particular base layout.
- Check storage before launching a large queue.
- Refill Ore and Crude Oil together so the furnace does not stop after consuming only one input.
- Keep the furnace close to the storage used by your transport workers.
- Review worker suitability after moving a Pal or changing the base’s active jobs.
Can you find or buy Plasteel elsewhere?
Do not search merchants for a Plasteel purchase. The current item entry explicitly says that Plasteel cannot be purchased from any merchants. It is also not presented as a normal ground resource, and the same entry lists no enemy-drop route. The supported acquisition path is processing Crude Oil and Ore in an Electric Furnace.
Recommended Free Tools
This distinction matters when planning exploration. Exploring for a pickup can provide other resources, but it should not replace your oil-and-ore production loop for Plasteel. If a future patch adds a drop or purchase source, the in-game item panel and updated item data will supersede this route.
Why Plasteel matters in late-game progression
Plasteel arrived as part of the late-game progression associated with the Sakurajima update. The update raised the level cap to 55 and describes new high-tier equipment and spheres made with Plasteel from Crude Oil. The item database also shows Plasteel in multiple weapon, armor, and equipment records.
That use pattern explains why a single batch disappears quickly. Plasteel is not a one-off construction material; it is an input shared by several endgame categories. Decide whether your next priority is a weapon, defensive gear, or a sphere before allocating the first production run, and size the oil reserve to that choice.
Troubleshooting: why Plasteel is not being produced
The recipe is missing or locked
Verify the character’s Technology Level and points. The requirement is Level 50 plus 2 Technology Points. A base level, Pal level, or furnace level does not replace that unlock.
The furnace will not start
Confirm that the Electric Furnace is powered and that an eligible worker is assigned. Then check that both Crude Oil and Ore are available to the furnace’s storage path. A missing single input can stop the queue even when the other material is abundant.
The queue stops partway through
Inspect oil first, because the recipe consumes two Crude Oil for every Plasteel. Next inspect Ore, using five Ore per unit as the planning ratio. Finally check whether a worker has been reassigned, become unavailable, or lost access to the furnace.
You expected to buy or loot it
The item record lists neither merchant purchase nor an enemy-drop route. Return to the Electric Furnace and build the production loop instead of spending time checking vendors.
Your numbers differ from this guide
Recipes and technology values can change with patches. Open the current in-game Technology and furnace panels and use their displayed values for your save. The Level 50, two-point unlock and the 2-Oil/5-Ore recipe are the values documented by the cited records, but a later update can revise them.
Version and source context
The Sakurajima update and a Prima Games guide are dated June 27, 2024; both place Plasteel in the Level 50 late-game progression. The official Palworld technology documentation currently lists the Plasteel, Electric Furnace, Crude Oil Extractor, and High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor technology IDs. Because the game continues to receive updates, treat displayed values in your installed build as authoritative when they differ from an older guide.
