Press F to cycle Photoshop through its screen modes until the standard workspace returns. If you want to select it directly, choose View > Screen Mode > Standard Screen Mode. These steps apply to Photoshop desktop on Windows and macOS.
Exit full screen with the F key
- Click the Photoshop document or application window so Photoshop has keyboard focus.
- Press F. Photoshop cycles forward through Standard Screen Mode, Full Screen Mode with Menu Bar, and Full Screen Mode. If the standard workspace does not appear after the first press, press F again until it does. Adobe lists this shortcut for both Windows and macOS. Adobe’s default keyboard shortcuts reference
F is a cycle, not a one-step Escape command. To move backward through the screen modes, press Shift+F; Adobe lists that shortcut for Windows and macOS as well. Adobe’s shortcut reference
Select Standard Screen Mode from the menu
For a direct selection instead of cycling, use View > Screen Mode > Standard Screen Mode. Standard Screen Mode is the default workspace and includes the menu bar and scroll bars, according to Adobe’s guide to viewing images in Photoshop.

If Photoshop is not in full screen but the Tools panel or other panels have disappeared, press Tab to toggle all panels back on. Shift+Tab toggles panels other than the Tools panel and Options bar. If F does not change the screen mode
- Make sure Photoshop has keyboard focus by clicking its window or an open document first.
- Check whether the shortcut has been customized: open Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts and review the relevant assignment. Adobe documents this dialog for desktop Photoshop. Adobe’s keyboard-shortcut guide
