To earn more technology points in Graveyard Keeper 2, use the Study Table in the tower: decompose expendable items to get Science, then spend that Science studying eligible items you have not studied before. For points earned through ordinary work, first check the color your next technology requires and focus your activities on that color. Science and technology points are separate resources, and having enough points does not remove a technology’s prerequisites.
Understand the difference between Science and technology points
Science is a resource used by the Study Table. Decomposing an item produces Science; studying an eligible item spends Science and can award technology points and alchemy runes. In other words, decomposing and studying are different actions with opposite roles in the loop: one replenishes the resource you spend, and the other turns that resource and a study subject into rewards.
Technology points are the points you use to unlock technologies. They are split into separate color pools, so points of one color do not simply substitute for another. Check the cost shown on the technology you want before deciding what to do next.
That distinction answers a common early question: having Science in your inventory does not mean you have already earned the technology points needed for a node. Science is an input for a study, while the technology-point award is the result of that study. Likewise, receiving points in one color does not fill a shortfall in another color. Check the target node’s cost and your current totals first so you know whether your real bottleneck is Science, a new study subject, a particular point color, or a progression condition.

Use the Study Table to turn Science into technology points
1. Decompose an expendable item
Go to the Study Table in the tower and choose decompose. Select an item you can spare. The action consumes that item and gives you Science; it does not award technology points directly. Be deliberate about what you sacrifice, especially if an item is scarce or needed for crafting.
Before confirming, pause to check the selected action and the item. Decompose is the Science-generating step, not the step that pays the study reward. If you accidentally treat an item you need for another purpose as expendable, the table has consumed it; choosing something that is easy to replace or that you know you can spare is a safer way to keep the loop supplied. If you are unsure whether an item has another use, check your current recipes and plans before spending it.
2. Study a new, useful item
Choose study and select an eligible item you have not studied yet. A Keeper’s Field Guide II guide updated October 1, 2026 for PC update 1.007 reports study rewards of 10 to 150 technology points, paid once per item, alongside the item’s alchemy runes. The guide does not establish a universal reward for every item, so use the in-game display and treat the range as reported guidance rather than a promise for a particular subject.
When possible, study new ingredients you expect to use in alchemy. That makes the one-time point award more useful: you also learn the item’s runes for later work. Before committing an uncommon ingredient, check its current in-game cost and whether you need it for another recipe.
The one-time nature of the reported reward changes how you should choose study subjects. Studying a particular item again is not a reliable way to farm another identical point award; look for a different eligible item you have not studied. If the table does not offer an item as a subject, do not assume it will pay points. Eligibility and current game behavior matter, and some studyability issues were addressed in updates.
For each candidate, weigh three things: whether it is eligible and new, whether you can spare it, and whether its runes will help with alchemy you actually plan to do. The point range is broad, and the guide does not provide a complete reward table for every item, so do not infer that a specific ingredient will pay the maximum. Use the displayed reward when available and avoid spending a rare ingredient solely on an assumed payout.
3. Replenish Science when you run low
Decompose other expendable items as needed. The same guide reports one Science Kit yields 30 Science when decomposed. Its listed recipe is one Alchemy Flask, five Clean Paper, and one Ink. Recipes and costs can change with updates, so verify the recipe in your current game before using materials.

Do not confuse the kit’s 30 Science with 30 technology points. Science is what fuels a study; the study’s technology-point reward depends on the item and is paid only once for that item, according to the guide.
The kit is a concrete option when you want a known Science source, but it has a material cost: one Alchemy Flask, five Clean Paper, and one Ink according to the October 1 guide. Compare that cost with the items you could otherwise decompose, and make sure the listed recipe matches your current version. The guide does not establish that crafting a Science Kit is always the cheapest or fastest option. Its value depends on your available materials and whether those materials are needed elsewhere.
A practical loop is therefore: check your Science balance; identify an unstudied, eligible subject worth studying; make sure you can afford the Science cost shown in-game; and decompose a spare item or a Science Kit if you need to replenish. After studying, review the point totals and runes before choosing the next subject. That keeps you from spending Science blindly or depleting useful materials without knowing what the study returned.
Target the color your next technology needs
The Study Table is one route to points, but ordinary work can also generate points in particular colors. A current guide describes red as associated with hands and materials, green with nature, and blue with spiritual knowledge. These are guide descriptions, not official developer definitions. Its activity examples can help you focus a day’s work instead of spreading effort across colors you do not currently need.

The examples above are strategies reported by a guide, not a guarantee that every action always yields the same amount or color in every build. Check the point display in your game as you work. If a task is not producing the color you need, switch activities rather than continuing on assumption.
To choose among ordinary work and study, start with the color cost on the next technology you want. If the missing amount is red or green, the guide’s examples point toward material work such as breaking rocks or nature work such as gathering plants and harvesting. If blue is short, the guide suggests collecting corpse items and studying new items. Those are starting points rather than a universal schedule: the amount each action awards is not specified here, and the output can depend on the build.
It can be tempting to do a little of everything, but that does not address a specific color shortage as directly as targeting the color actually blocking your next unlock. Conversely, do not continue an activity just because it is associated with a color in a guide if your own point display does not confirm the result. Track the color totals during the work session. If the relevant pool is not rising, change the task or investigate whether a different requirement is keeping the technology locked.

Choose a route based on what is actually blocking you

There is no established universally fastest method for every stage or build. The Keeper’s Field Guide II describes study as an efficient mid-game source, while ordinary activities let you target particular colors. In practice, the better choice depends on which color you need, whether you have Science and new study subjects, and whether the technology is already gated by something else.

Use the table as a decision aid, not as a fixed ranking. Study has an upfront Science cost and requires an eligible item that has not already been studied. Ordinary work lets you pursue a color through the activities described by the guide, but it still takes time and its exact point yield is not provided. If you have both a shortage of Science and a specific color need, solve the immediate blocker first: replenish Science if you have a worthwhile new subject ready, or do color-focused work if your Study Table options are exhausted or do not address the deficit.
Similarly, a large reported reward range does not automatically make study the best choice in every moment. A subject that would consume a material you need for a recipe may be a poor trade, even if it could grant points. If ordinary work is producing the color you need, that may be a more sensible use of the day. The best route is the one that advances the target node without sacrificing scarce ingredients or producing points you cannot currently use.
Check prerequisites before grinding more points
If a technology remains unavailable even though you appear to have enough points, more point farming may not solve the problem. Technology nodes can depend on prerequisite technologies, reputation, or story and building conditions. Open the target node and trace its requirements before spending another in-game day gathering points.
A useful check is to compare the target’s displayed color costs with your totals, then inspect each prerequisite and any visible progression condition. If a required node is still locked, follow that dependency first. If the point cost is met but a reputation, story, or building condition is missing, work on that condition rather than repeating a point-generating activity. Points and access requirements are separate parts of the unlock.

A community technology planner lists 236 technologies across six branches. Treat that count as orientation rather than a fixed official total: it is community reference data and can change as the game is updated. The useful takeaway is to plan from the specific target and its visible route through the tree, rather than trying to build every branch evenly.
The reported point cap is another reason to check totals before a long work session. The same current guide reports a limit of 999 points per color. If you are close to that figure, spend points in that pool before generating a large amount more; points above the cap may not help your progress. Because this cap comes from guide information and could differ by version, use your in-game total as the immediate reference rather than treating 999 as guaranteed in every build.

Troubleshoot a Study Table that fails or locks up
Version matters if the table consumes an item but does not behave as expected, or if an item cannot be studied. Steam’s official announcement for update 1.005 records a fix for the Study Table locking up after an item was inserted for Science. Keeper’s Field Guide II, written for PC update 1.007 and updated October 1, 2026, reports later fixes for missing Science rewards and some items that could not be studied.
- Check the game’s version and whether an update is available for your platform.
- Confirm whether you chose decompose or study, and whether the item was eligible and not already studied.
- Check the displayed Science and point totals after the action, rather than relying on a remembered amount.
- If playing on console, account for the possibility that its patch arrives later than the Steam version; the guide notes that console patches may lag Steam.
If the Study Table appears to have consumed an item without the expected result, avoid repeating the action with another scarce item until you have checked the version and totals. The official Steam changelog describes the 1.005 lockup issue as occurring after inserting an item for Science, while the PC guide for update 1.007 reports fixes for missing Science rewards and studyability problems. These are version-specific reports, not a promise that every platform has identical behavior at the same time.
Steam lists September 22, 2026 as the game’s release date. Can I study the same item repeatedly to farm points?
