Gemini 4 Argon is available in Google Search’s AI Mode to subscribers of Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra, subject to country, account, age and rollout availability. You must be at least 18, signed in to an eligible Google account, and use the Argon option when it appears in AI Mode.
Developers and enterprises do not need to use Search: Google also offers Argon through Google AI Studio, the Gemini API and the Gemini platform, with separate usage billing and limits.
Who can use Gemini 4 Argon in Search AI Mode?
Google’s 13 October 2026 launch announcement identifies Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscriptions as the consumer routes to Argon in AI Mode. Google Search Help specifies an additional age requirement: users must be 18 or older. Meeting those conditions does not guarantee immediate access because Google can limit availability by country, account, age verification and staged rollout.
Requirements at a glance

How to select Argon in Google Search
- Sign in: Open Google Search while signed in to the Google account that holds your AI Pro or AI Ultra subscription.
- Open AI Mode: Start a Search query and select AI Mode when that control is available.
- Choose the model: In the AI Mode model or model-choice control, select Gemini 4 Argon if it is listed.
- Send a task: Enter your question or multi-step request. Argon is positioned for complex work rather than only short factual searches.
- Check the response mode: If Argon is not shown, the request is being handled by another available model or AI Mode configuration; do not assume that every AI Mode answer used Argon.
If the Argon option is missing
- Confirm that the correct subscribed Google account is active in the browser or Search app.
- Check that the account meets the 18-and-over requirement and that age verification, where requested, is complete.
- Try the latest supported Google Search experience and sign out of additional accounts that might be taking priority.
- Allow for regional or staged rollout differences. A Pro or Ultra subscription alone is not evidence that Argon is already enabled for every country or account.
Google AI Pro versus Google AI Ultra for Argon
Both tiers are identified as eligible for Argon in Search AI Mode. The official launch and help information do not establish a universal quota, response-speed, or feature matrix, and subscription prices are not stated in the available information. The practical comparison is therefore limited to confirmed eligibility and separately announced features.

Choose between the tiers using the current Google account pricing and feature pages for your country, not an assumed Argon allowance. If your sole goal is Search access, verify that Argon is visible before treating either subscription as a guaranteed upgrade.

Using Argon outside Search: AI Studio and the Gemini API
Google lists Google AI Studio, the Gemini API and the Gemini platform as access routes for developers and enterprises. These routes are designed for applications, automation and managed organizational use rather than the consumer Search interface.

Google announced introductory pricing of $2 per 1 million input tokens and $10 per 1 million output tokens. Cached input tokens are priced 95% lower than the listed input rate. Google states that this introductory pricing ends after 30 November 2026, so check the live pricing terms before deploying or budgeting. These are usage charges, not a consumer subscription price.

What the API route changes
- You can call Argon from software instead of selecting it manually in Search.
- Billing, quotas, authentication and rate limits are managed through the relevant Google developer or enterprise service.
- Search AI Mode eligibility does not automatically grant API capacity, and API access does not imply consumer Search access.
What Argon is intended to handle
Google positions Gemini 4 Argon for complex, multi-step work in coding, finance, legal analysis, cybersecurity and science. Google reports more than a 35% increase in agentic code submissions and nearly a one-third reduction in code rollbacks. It also reports up to 2.3× faster molecular-structure prediction and 1.8× faster conformer search.
For infrastructure, Google reports a 2.85× end-to-end inference speedup on an A100, from about 37,900 to more than 108,000 tokens per second. These figures are Google-reported results, not independent tests, and they should not be treated as a guarantee for Search response time, a particular prompt or your own hardware.
Research and specialized access programs
Google says scientists can apply for six months of highest-tier Antigravity access. Selection is subject to eligibility and capacity, so this is an application program rather than automatic free access. Google also says additional Fairwind Program cybersecurity partners are being added; participation is an access-program decision, not a confirmed consumer or affiliate offer.
Bottom line for getting more access
For ordinary Search use, the actionable path is an eligible Google AI Pro or Ultra account, age 18 or older, and an Argon-enabled AI Mode rollout in your country. If the model selector is absent, check account and age status before changing plans, then consider rollout timing as the likely explanation. For software or organizational workloads, use AI Studio, the Gemini API or the Gemini platform and budget against the time-limited introductory token rates rather than relying on Search subscription access.
