The simplest cable-free upgrade is a speaker that can receive audio over Bluetooth from your projector or its playback source. First identify the projector’s exact model and available outputs: some projectors transmit Bluetooth audio, some only accept Bluetooth input, and some have no wireless audio function at all. If Bluetooth is unavailable, connect the speaker to the streaming device, use HDMI ARC/eARC, or add a compatible audio transmitter. Test lip-sync before committing to a layout, because Bluetooth delay can be noticeable with video.

Choose the connection that matches your equipment

There is no universal projector-audio method. The correct setup depends on what your projector, source device and speaker can transmit or receive.

Configuration Use it when What you need Main trade-off
Projector Bluetooth output to Bluetooth speaker The projector supports Bluetooth audio transmission, usually through a Sound Out menu Compatible Bluetooth speaker and power Possible lip-sync delay, limited range and interference
Playback device Bluetooth to speaker The projector cannot transmit Bluetooth but the streaming box, computer or console can Bluetooth-capable source and speaker Audio and video follow different paths, so synchronization must be tested
HDMI ARC/eARC The projector and soundbar or receiver both have compatible ARC/eARC ports One HDMI cable between the two devices It avoids a room-spanning cable only when the audio system can sit near the projector
Bluetooth transmitter The projector has a compatible audio output but no Bluetooth transmission Transmitter, matching projector output and Bluetooth speaker Connector compatibility and latency vary
Dedicated wireless transmitter/receiver kit You want to keep powered speakers away from the projector or source Transmitter, receiver, suitable input/output and power for the speakers More hardware and another radio link to configure

Wireless audio removes the long cable, not every cable. A speaker, receiver or transmitter still needs power, and a short local cable may be required between a device and its accessory.

Check the projector before buying anything

  1. Record the exact model. Read the model number from the projector label or its information screen. A manufacturer’s Bluetooth behavior can differ between models and regions.
  2. Find the audio section of the manual. Look specifically for “Sound Out,” “Audio Output,” “Bluetooth audio,” “A2DP,” “ARC” or “eARC.” Bluetooth support for keyboards, remotes or headphones does not automatically mean the projector can transmit movie sound.
  3. Inspect the physical ports. Note whether the projector has HDMI ARC/eARC, optical audio, 3.5-mm analog output, RCA output or only HDMI inputs. Match the port type before selecting a transmitter or cable.
  4. Identify the video source. Determine whether the picture comes from a streaming box, computer, game console, disc player or an app built into the projector. The source may provide a wireless audio route even when the projector does not.
  5. Check the speaker’s input and power. Confirm that it accepts Bluetooth, ARC/eARC, optical, RCA or the analog connection you plan to use. A wireless receiver cannot power passive speakers unless it includes an amplifier.

When the projector can transmit Bluetooth audio

This is usually the shortest path: pair a Bluetooth speaker and place it near the screen or listening position. LG’s projector guidance uses the path Settings → Sound Out → Bluetooth device, then selecting the speaker from the list. Menu names and locations vary by model. Epson documents A2DP Bluetooth output for the specific projectors and sources covered by its setup instructions, so confirm that your model is included rather than assuming every Epson projector supports it.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Pair the speaker

  1. Turn on the speaker, put it in pairing mode and keep it close to the projector for initial setup.
  2. Open the projector’s settings and locate Sound Out or the equivalent audio-output menu.
  3. Select the Bluetooth or wireless-speaker option, wait for the device name to appear, and choose it.
  4. Start a familiar film or test clip. Listen for dropouts and compare speech with the actors’ lip movement.
  5. If the projector offers an audio-delay control, adjust it in small increments until dialogue and video align. The setting may affect only certain outputs or devices.

LG identifies distances beyond 32 ft (10 m) as a possible cause of an unstable Bluetooth connection in its projector troubleshooting guidance. Treat that as a manufacturer troubleshooting threshold, not a guaranteed range for every speaker. Walls, furniture and metal can reduce the usable distance. Keep the speaker away from strong radio sources such as Wi-Fi routers and microwaves, and make sure it is not already connected to another phone or computer.

Understand the lip-sync limitation

Bluetooth audio is encoded, transmitted and decoded before it reaches the speaker. BenQ describes around 300 ms of minor Bluetooth audio lag on the models covered by its support guidance. That amount can be obvious during dialogue, gaming or live performances. A projector’s delay control may compensate, but the result depends on the projector, speaker and video source. If the lag remains distracting, use a lower-latency wireless kit or a different audio path instead of moving the speaker farther away.

When the projector has no Bluetooth output

Some projector families do not transmit audio over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. BenQ’s support answer says that capability is absent on the listed models; that statement applies to those models and should not be generalized to every projector from the company or every projector on the market.

Connect the playback source directly

If the image comes from a streaming box, computer or console with Bluetooth audio support, pair the speaker with that device rather than the projector.

  1. Put the speaker in pairing mode.
  2. Open the source device’s Bluetooth settings and select the speaker.
  3. Set the source’s audio output to the paired device if it does not switch automatically.
  4. Play the same content you normally watch and check synchronization. The source may have its own audio-delay setting.
  5. Test other content types, especially live television and games, before fixing the speaker’s position.

This arrangement can work well when the source is already near the speaker or projector. It can be less convenient when several sources feed the projector, because each source may need its own pairing and delay settings. Some devices also stop sending sound through their built-in speakers or other outputs once Bluetooth is selected.

Use HDMI ARC or eARC when both devices support it

ARC (Audio Return Channel) and eARC send audio from a compatible projector to a compatible soundbar or receiver over HDMI. They are not wireless, but they can eliminate a cable across the room if the projector and audio system can sit together, for example on the same media cabinet or ceiling-mount location.

  1. Verify that the projector’s HDMI socket is labeled ARC or eARC, not merely HDMI input.
  2. Verify that the soundbar or receiver has a matching ARC/eARC port.
  3. Connect those two ports with an HDMI cable.
  4. In the projector’s audio settings, select ARC/eARC or external audio output.
  5. On the sound system, select its HDMI ARC/eARC input and set the supported audio format according to both manuals.
  6. Play content from each source and confirm that sound remains stable when you change inputs.

ARC/eARC does not create a wireless link to a speaker on the opposite side of the room. If the soundbar must remain remote, you still need a separate wireless transmitter/receiver system or another audio route. Compatibility also depends on the formats each device supports, so check both manuals before expecting surround sound or advanced formats.

Add a Bluetooth transmitter to a projector with an audio output

A transmitter can give a non-Bluetooth projector a wireless speaker connection when the projector exposes a suitable audio output. Depending on the projector, that output might be optical, RCA or 3.5-mm analog. The transmitter’s input must match exactly; an optical plug, analog plug and HDMI ARC connection are not interchangeable without the proper hardware.

  1. Confirm that the projector can output audio through the chosen port while displaying your normal source.
  2. Check the transmitter’s supported input, output codec and number of paired speakers.
  3. Connect the transmitter to the projector and power it locally.
  4. Pair the transmitter with the speaker, following both devices’ pairing instructions.
  5. Set the projector’s audio output to the connected port if necessary.
  6. Run a dialogue test and a fast-motion or game test. Return the transmitter if latency is unacceptable or the connection drops.

Do not buy the accessory until the connectors and power requirements are confirmed. Bluetooth latency remains possible even when pairing succeeds, and a transmitter cannot repair a projector output that is disabled, incompatible or limited to a format the transmitter does not accept.

Use a dedicated wireless audio transmitter and receiver

A purpose-built kit is useful when you already own powered speakers or a sound system that must remain away from the projector. The transmitter stays near the projector or source; the receiver connects to the remote speakers. The receiver still requires power, and the speakers must be powered speakers or connected to a separate amplifier.

Marmitek lists its Audio Anywhere 730 with HDMI ARC, optical and RCA inputs, a manufacturer-stated range of up to 20 metres and manufacturer-stated latency below 12.5 ms. Those are product specifications, not independent test results or a guarantee for every room. Check whether the kit’s receiver output matches your speakers and whether the quoted range applies through your walls and furniture.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Typical kit setup

  1. Connect the transmitter to the projector’s ARC, optical or RCA output, or to the source device if that is the compatible point in your chain.
  2. Connect the receiver to the powered speaker, soundbar or amplifier at the remote listening position.
  3. Power both units and complete their pairing procedure.
  4. Select the correct projector or source audio output and play a synchronization test.
  5. Place the transmitter and receiver where they have the clearest path possible, then retest with doors closed and normal household Wi-Fi operating.

Place the speaker for clearer sound

Connection stability and perceived sound quality are separate problems. A perfectly paired speaker can still sound weak if it is hidden behind the projector or placed on the floor.

  • Put the speaker near the screen so voices appear to come from the actors rather than from the side wall.
  • For a single compact speaker, aim it toward the seating area and keep its front unobstructed.
  • For stereo speakers, keep the left and right units at similar distances from the main seats and avoid placing one inside a cabinet.
  • Leave ventilation space around powered speakers and receivers.
  • Keep Bluetooth transmitters and receivers away from metal enclosures and crowded wireless equipment.
  • Plan for charging if the speaker has a battery. A low battery can cause shutdowns or reduced output during a film.

If your priority is dialogue, a well-positioned stereo or center-focused speaker can be more useful than a remote surround arrangement with poor synchronization. If you need room-filling effects, verify that the wireless method supports the number of channels your system requires; a single Bluetooth speaker does not automatically provide surround sound.

Fix the most common failures

Symptom Likely cause What to try
The speaker does not appear in the projector menu Bluetooth output is unsupported, the speaker is not in pairing mode, or it is connected elsewhere Check the exact model manual, disconnect the speaker from other devices, restart pairing and search again
Audio connects but cuts out Distance, obstacles or radio interference Move the speaker closer, remove obstructions, separate it from routers and microwaves, and retest below the 32-ft/10-m troubleshooting threshold cited by LG
Speech is behind the picture Bluetooth processing delay Use the projector or source delay control; if it remains noticeable, switch to ARC/eARC or a lower-latency dedicated kit
ARC/eARC produces no sound Wrong HDMI socket, incompatible format or incorrect output selection Confirm both ports are labeled ARC/eARC, select external/ARC output, and use an audio format supported by both manuals
A transmitter pairs but remains silent Projector audio is still routed to its internal speaker, or the transmitter input does not match the port Select the connected output, verify the connector type and test another supported format
The remote speakers are silent Receiver or powered speakers lack power Connect local power and check the receiver’s output cable and speaker input
Only one source works Bluetooth pairing or output selection is configured per source Pair each source separately or place the transmitter at a point shared by all sources

Practical layouts

Streaming box beside the projector

Pair a Bluetooth speaker with the streaming box, place the speaker below the screen and adjust delay on the box if available. This avoids a room-spanning cable and keeps the wireless path short. Confirm that game consoles or other sources use the same audio route before relying on it for the entire room.

Projector on the opposite wall from the soundbar

If both devices have ARC/eARC, ARC can work only when they are positioned together. For a soundbar that must stay opposite the projector, use a compatible transmitter/receiver system or relocate the source and connect the speaker to that source instead.

Older projector with optical or analog output

Connect a transmitter whose input matches the projector’s available port, pair it with a Bluetooth speaker, and test delay with spoken dialogue. If latency is unacceptable, a dedicated kit with a published low-latency specification may be a better fit, provided its inputs and receiver output match your equipment.

Final buying checklist

  • Exact projector model and region checked
  • Bluetooth audio transmission confirmed, not merely Bluetooth input or remote support
  • Source device identified for every input you use
  • Speaker, transmitter or receiver connector compatibility confirmed
  • Power and charging locations planned
  • Maximum distance and obstacles measured
  • Interference sources identified
  • Dialogue and gaming lip-sync tested before permanent mounting
  • Required stereo or surround capability verified
  • Manufacturer specifications distinguished from independent testing

Start with the least complicated route your equipment already supports. A projector Bluetooth output is convenient, source-device Bluetooth can rescue a projector with no wireless audio, ARC/eARC is dependable when the devices can be co-located, and a transmitter/receiver kit is the flexible option for remote powered speakers. In every case, compatibility and synchronization matter more than the wireless label on the box.
