As of Valve’s Steam listing checked October 13, 2026, the only documented way to get Deadlock access is a friend invitation from someone who is already a playtester. That playtester must send the invitation from inside Deadlock, using the invite control at the bottom right of the game dashboard. There is no Steam purchase route, public signup form, or announced release date.
Ask a trusted Steam friend with access to invite you, then verify the invitation on the same Steam account you intend to use. Because Valve can change the test’s access rules, recheck the official Deadlock Steam listing immediately before you act.
The current answer: you need an existing playtester to invite you
Valve’s listing says, “Access is currently limited to friend invite via our playtesters.” In practical terms, you cannot open a normal Steam store purchase, enter a public beta code, or register for an open queue. What closed-beta access does and does not mean
Closed beta access is different from owning a released Steam game. The current listing does not offer a checkout button or a public registration workflow. Instead, eligibility begins with a person who is already inside the test and can use Deadlock’s own invitation feature. Steam’s labels and placement can change, so treat the visible account notice—not a screenshot from another player—as the authority for your account.
- Launch only after the license is present. If Deadlock appears as playable or is added to your library, follow Steam’s normal installation and launch prompts. If it does not appear, do not assume that repeatedly reinstalling Steam or buying a key will create access; troubleshoot the invitation status first.
- Recheck Valve’s listing. Before relying on older instructions, open the current Deadlock Steam page. It is the best place in the official material to see whether access remains invite-only, whether the game has become purchasable, and whether Valve has posted a new status.

What the recipient should verify
After the sender confirms the invitation, check the exact account that was selected. Look in Steam’s notifications and library or playtest-related areas, then launch from that account if the game appears. A screenshot from the sender only proves that a request was attempted; it does not prove that Steam attached a license to your account.
Why an invitation may not appear

Can you buy Deadlock access?
There is no legitimate Steam purchase route in the status reviewed for this guide. How to judge an access offer
A legitimate route should lead back to Valve’s own Steam listing or the in-game invitation function. Valve has not published complete Deadlock hardware requirements in the listing reviewed.
