To appear online as though you are connecting from Malawi, you need a VPN provider with a selectable Malawi exit location—and its current availability should be confirmed before you subscribe. The sources checked do not verify a consumer VPN with an active Malawi exit server: IPinfo’s Malawi page reports “No VPNs detected in Malawi,” while Telleport says regional servers are “coming soon.” A VPN that lets you connect while you are physically in Malawi may route you through another country instead.
What you need for a Malawi IP address
Your public IP is the address websites can use to infer where your internet connection exits. To get an IP that appears to be in Malawi, your traffic must leave the VPN through an endpoint whose IP is registered or geolocated as Malawi. Connecting to a VPN from within Malawi is a different thing: the VPN may send traffic through a server in a nearby country.
Availability is not established for a consumer Malawi endpoint in the sources checked. IPinfo’s country page currently reports “No VPNs detected in Malawi,” but that database snapshot does not prove that every provider lacks an endpoint; VPN infrastructure and geolocation records can change. Telleport’s regional page says servers are “coming soon” and that users can still use its service from Malawi through a nearby supported country. That illustrates why “works in Malawi” does not mean “has a Malawi server.”

How to check and connect to a Malawi VPN location
- Confirm the specific endpoint. Ask the provider whether a Malawi location is selectable now and whether its exit IP is physically in Malawi or is a virtual location registered there. Check that the location is available in your app, on your device, and with your subscription tier.
- Install the provider’s official app and sign in. Use the provider’s location list and select Malawi only if it is explicitly offered. Do not treat a nearby country as a Malawi endpoint.
- Connect, then check the result. Use an IP lookup to see the public IP and the country assigned to it. Geolocation databases may disagree or take time to update, so the lookup is a useful check, not a guarantee about how every service will classify the address.
- Test the website or service you actually need. A service may use its own location checks or block VPN traffic. Confirm its behavior directly rather than assuming an IP lookup predicts acceptance.
If a provider does not offer a Malawi exit location, connecting to one of its other servers will change your apparent exit country, but it will not give you a Malawi IP.

Physical and virtual server locations are not the same
A provider may offer a physical server in a country or a virtual location whose IP is registered to that country while the hardware is elsewhere. ExpressVPN explains this distinction and points users to its location list, but its support page does not establish whether Malawi is currently available. The page was last updated August 19, 2026. Check the provider’s live list and ask how the Malawi location is implemented; do not infer availability from a provider’s overall server count.
Will a Malawi IP work with a particular website?
Not necessarily. An IP lookup can report Malawi while a bank, website, or streaming service applies additional checks, rejects VPN connections, or identifies the address differently. A VPN changes your network route and apparent IP; it does not physically move you or change your account eligibility.

Netflix says a VPN can make a device or network look as though it is connecting from somewhere other than its physical location. It also warns that VPN users may see only titles Netflix has worldwide licensing for, and that VPNs are unsupported for live events and ad-supported experiences. A Malawi IP therefore should not be treated as a promise of access to a particular catalog or feature. Netflix’s VPN guidance explains its limitations.

VPN use in Malawi: what the available legal source says
A 2023 ICLG Malawi legal chapter reported that consumer VPN services were not regulated or blocked in Malawi and that operators and ISPs had no obligation to block sites. This is dated secondary legal reporting, not current legal advice; it should not be read as a ruling on every use or as confirmation of current law. A Roads Authority procurement notice for office internet and VPN services in Lilongwe, Blantyre, and Mzuzu concerns institutional use, not consumer endpoint availability.
