The only official access route currently listed for Deadlock is a friend invite from someone who already has playtest access. Valve’s Steam listing does not describe a public application, open sign-up, guaranteed invite quota, or release date. Ask an existing playtester directly, and treat any paid code or outside registration page as unofficial. The listing is for an early-development build, so access and requirements can change.
The current answer in one sentence
Find a person who already participates in the Deadlock playtest and ask whether they can send you a friend invite through Steam. Valve’s official wording is: “Access is currently limited to friend invite via our playtesters.” That is the access rule shown on the official Deadlock Steam listing, checked October 13, 2026.
This means there is no confirmed public form to complete, no advertised queue that guarantees access, and no official reason to buy a key from a stranger. A playtester may be unable or unwilling to invite you, and the listing does not say how many invitations any tester receives or how quickly one is processed.

The listing also leaves the operating system, processor, graphics hardware and sound-card requirements unsettled. Do not treat a third-party specification, an old screenshot or a rumor as Valve’s final PC requirement. The listing can change, so check it again when you are ready to act.

How to request an invite
1. Make sure you are asking the right person
You need a contact who already has Deadlock playtest access, not merely someone who owns other games on Steam or has seen a stream. Ask friends, teammates or acquaintances who have told you that they can launch the playtest. If you meet someone in a gaming community, verify that the account is genuine before discussing any invitation.
Do not assume that a person with access can invite everyone who asks. Valve has not published an allowance, an acceptance rate or a deadline. Your contact may have no available invitation, may be taking a break from the test or may prefer not to distribute invitations.
2. Ask clearly and once
A short, respectful message works better than repeated requests. State that you are interested in joining the Deadlock playtest and ask whether the person has an available friend invite. Avoid pressure, promises of payment or requests for account credentials. A suitable message is:
“Hi. I’m interested in trying the Deadlock playtest. If you have an available friend invite and are comfortable sending it, could you let me know? No problem if you cannot.”
This wording leaves room for the tester to decline and does not imply that an invitation is owed to you.

3. Wait for the invitation through an official Steam notification
If the playtester sends an invitation, use the Steam notification or message associated with that invitation and follow the on-screen instructions. The official listing does not document a universal button name or a separate web form, so be cautious of instructions that ask you to install an unknown program, sign in on an unrelated domain or provide your Steam password.
4. Confirm that access actually appears on your account
After accepting an invitation, check your own Steam library and the Deadlock listing. The expected result is that Steam recognizes your account as having playtest access. If the game is not shown or the invite produces an error, ask the sender to confirm that the invitation was sent to the correct Steam account and retain any exact error text. Do not repeatedly accept links from different senders while trying to force access; that makes it harder to identify a genuine problem.
How to find a legitimate playtester without creating risk
Start with people you already know
Personal contacts are the safest route because you can verify who is sending the invitation. Ask in a private conversation rather than posting your account details publicly. A friend can tell you whether they currently have access and whether they are willing to help without requiring you to hand over control of your account.
Use communities for introductions, not for buying access
Public gaming communities may help you meet players who are already testing Deadlock, but community membership alone does not prove that a user has access. Keep the conversation focused on whether an invitation is available. Never send money, gift cards or cryptocurrency in exchange for a promised invite. A paid offer is not the route identified by Valve’s listing, and a seller can disappear after receiving payment.
Protect your Steam account
- Never give another person your password, recovery codes or authentication codes.
- Do not install a “verification” program or browser extension to receive an invite.
- Check the domain before signing in; an invitation should not require credentials on an unrelated site.
- Decline requests to disable account security or to transfer your account temporarily.
- If someone claims to represent Valve, ask them to direct you to the official Steam listing rather than trusting a private message.
Can you join without an invite?
There is no other official access method described on the current listing. It does not advertise an open application, a public waitlist or a general download. Therefore, if you do not know a playtester, you currently have no confirmed route to join the test. That is a statement about the information Valve has published, not a promise that the policy can never change.

Recheck the official listing before submitting information anywhere. If Valve adds a public registration process, the listing or an official Valve announcement should identify it. Until then, a page that claims to be an “official Deadlock beta sign-up” but is not linked from an official Valve or Steam source should be treated as unverified.

What to expect after you get access
It is an early-development test, not the finished release
Valve describes Deadlock as a multiplayer game in early development. The build may contain temporary art and experimental gameplay. Features, balance, presentation and stability can therefore differ from what appears in trailers, streams or later versions. Access is an opportunity to test an in-development build, not a guarantee of a finished product.
There is no announced launch date
The Steam listing says the release date is to be announced. Do not interpret an invitation as a release purchase, an early retail copy or evidence that a public launch is imminent. The playtest and the eventual commercial release are separate stages.
Availability can change
Because the listing describes a limited test, Valve can change who may participate or how invitations are distributed. Keep the original notification and monitor the official listing for updated instructions. If access disappears after an update, first check whether Valve has posted a new access notice before troubleshooting your computer.
Hardware and software preparation
Do not buy parts based on unofficial specifications
The current listing does not settle the operating system, processor, graphics or sound-card requirements. That makes it impossible to give a reliable minimum or recommended PC specification from the official information available here. A forum post or a creator’s personal setup may describe one person’s machine, but it is not a Valve requirement.

Wait for Valve to publish actual requirements before upgrading specifically for Deadlock. If you already own a gaming PC, you can try the playtest once access is granted, but be prepared for performance or compatibility issues that are normal for experimental software.
Prepare the account, not a shopping list
- Use the Steam account that should receive the invitation and keep its recovery information current.
- Keep Steam updated so notifications and library changes can appear normally.
- Make sure you have enough local storage for an eventual installation, while recognizing that the listing does not state an installation size.
- Record your operating system and hardware details so you can report them accurately if the test displays a compatibility problem.
These steps improve readiness but do not create eligibility. Only the invitation route determines whether your account can enter the current test.

The person says they have access but cannot invite you
That does not necessarily indicate a scam. The listing does not state that every playtester receives invitations or that invitations are always available. Ask the person to confirm whether Steam currently offers an invitation option for their account, then wait for their answer. Do not pressure them to bypass a restriction with a third-party tool.
You receive a link asking for payment
Stop before paying or signing in. Valve’s published route is a friend invite via playtesters, not a marketplace transaction. Report or block the sender according to the community’s rules, and use only the official Steam listing for access information.

Check which Steam account is signed in before accepting anything. Ask the sender to verify the account identity without requesting your password. If the invitation was addressed incorrectly, the sender may need to issue a new one; the listing does not promise that an invitation can be transferred or reissued.

The game does not appear after acceptance
First restart Steam and check the library and the Deadlock listing while signed in to the invited account. If access still does not appear, capture the exact message shown and ask the inviting playtester to confirm the invitation status. Avoid downloading unofficial installers or “fixes.” Since Valve has not published a public troubleshooting flow for this limited test, the safest escalation is through Steam’s own support channels or an official Valve announcement.
A page claims registration is open
Compare the claim with the current official listing. The listing presently identifies friend invites as the access method and does not describe an open application. If the page is not an official Steam or Valve destination, do not submit your login, payment details or identification documents.
A practical checklist
- Open the official Deadlock Steam listing and read the current access wording.
- Identify a real person who already has playtest access.
- Ask politely whether that person has an available friend invitation.
- Do not offer payment or share account credentials.
- Accept any genuine invitation through Steam’s own notification or message flow.
- Check the invited account’s library and the Deadlock listing for access.
- Keep expectations realistic: the build is experimental, and there is no announced release date.
- Delay hardware purchases until Valve publishes settled requirements.
- Recheck the listing if the invitation process, access status or requirements appear to have changed.
How to verify information over time
The access wording was checked on October 13, 2026, and Steam pages can be revised without notice. Before acting on an old guide, open the listing yourself and confirm three items: whether access still requires a friend invite, whether Valve has added a public registration route and whether system requirements have been published. A current page takes precedence over screenshots, social posts and instructions copied from an earlier test phase.
For now, the decision is straightforward: obtain a genuine invitation from an existing playtester, use Steam rather than an unofficial seller or signup page, and treat Deadlock as an early-development test with unsettled requirements rather than a released game.
