Check your phone’s available storage, run OPPO’s built-in cleanup, then review large personal files and back up anything you want to keep before deleting it. When you’re done, retry the update using the instruction on your phone; OPPO does not specify one free-space amount that applies to every ColorOS update.
1. Check how much storage is available
Open Settings and look for Storage. On ColorOS 11 and 12, OPPO says Storage is available directly in Settings. On ColorOS 3.0–7.2, try Settings > Additional Settings > Storage. Some phones also show remaining capacity in File Manager. If you do not see these labels, search for “Storage” in Settings; paths can differ by model and software version. OPPO’s storage-cleanup guidance notes that availability may also vary by region, including on some models in Europe, India, and Japan.
2. Run Phone Manager’s built-in cleanup
Open Phone Manager (it may be inside the Tools folder) and choose Clean Up Storage, Clean Up, or the closest similarly named option. Review the detected items and run the cleanup. OPPO describes this feature as finding temporary files, cookies, and caches. Its support instructions cover ColorOS 7.0 through ColorOS 16 and above, but exact labels and availability vary. OPPO’s storage-cleanup instructions and its OTA troubleshooting guide show different labels across releases, so use the option shown on your device.

3. Find large files you can move or delete
If the cleanup does not free enough room, inspect Storage or Phone Manager’s Deep Clean feature for large photos, videos, audio, documents, downloads, and apps. Delete only items you recognize and no longer need. OPPO warns that items deleted through Deep Clean cannot be recovered through that action.

Media can take up space quickly, but file sizes vary. OPPO’s 2023 examples estimate about 10 MB for a typical 50-megapixel photo on the Find X5 Pro and roughly 500 MB (0.488 GB) for one minute of high-bitrate 4K 60 fps video. These are illustrations, not predictions for every phone or file.
4. Back up personal files before deleting them
For files you may want later, copy them to a computer or another backup location and verify the copy before removing the phone version. OPPO recommends backing up files to a computer and deleting unused phone files when storage is insufficient. A backup you have not checked is not a safe reason to delete the original.

Clear cache and app data are not the same
Do not treat Clear data as a routine cache-cleaning step. OPPO says clearing app data can remove application information such as login details, updates, and patches. Check what the app stores locally and back it up before choosing Clear data; use it only if you accept losing that information.
5. Retry the update and respond to any warning
Return to the system update screen and follow the space prompt on your phone. OPPO’s reviewed support guidance says insufficient storage can prevent an OTA update, but it does not publish a universal free-space threshold. Do not assume every update needs a fixed multiple of its download size.

If the warning remains, continue freeing space conservatively by reviewing files you can safely move or remove. If the phone reports sufficient space but no update is available, storage may not be the cause: OPPO says rollout availability can depend on the phone model and region. Check whether the update has been released for your device, or contact OPPO Support for model-specific help. OPPO’s OTA troubleshooting guide lists insufficient storage as one possible cause of update problems.
