Start with Settings > General > iPhone Storage. That screen shows your available space, Apple’s cleanup recommendations, and which apps and content use the most storage. Review the exact JRPG’s App Store File size and any notice about an additional download, then remove only data you recognize and no longer need.
There is no honest universal storage number for an unnamed JRPG. Delivery can vary by iPhone model and iOS version, and a game may download resources after installation. Use the game’s own listing and first-launch prompt as your capacity check.
Measure your available space before deleting anything
Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage. The amount of available storage appears at the top. Below it, iOS displays recommendations and a list of apps, usually ordered by how much space they occupy. Tap any app to see a more detailed breakdown and the actions available for it.
Take a screenshot or note the available figure before you begin. Storage totals can change while apps synchronize, photos process, or operating-system files are reorganized, so the number you see now is a baseline rather than a permanent guarantee.

Read the storage categories
The screen separates app storage from categories such as photos, messages and their attachments, downloaded files, and media. A large category is a place to investigate, not an instruction to erase everything in it. Open the relevant app or folder and identify individual items first.
Review iOS recommendations instead of accepting them blindly
When iPhone Storage offers a recommendation, tap it to view the details before turning it on. Apple’s recommendations can include reviewing content for deletion. The detail view tells you what would be removed or changed; cancel if the proposed items include something you still need.
- Use a recommendation when you can identify the listed files or apps and are comfortable losing them or changing how they are stored.
- Skip it when the description is too broad, when a local game save may be involved, or when you have not checked the content yourself.
- Return to the storage screen after each substantial cleanup so you can see the actual space recovered.
Choose between offloading and deleting an app
For an app that occupies substantial space, iOS may offer Offload App and Delete App. They are not equivalent. The choice depends on whether the app’s documents and data must remain on the phone.

Offload an app while preserving its data
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap the app you can temporarily remove.
- Choose Offload App, then confirm.
- Wait for the storage screen to refresh and record the new available amount.
- Leave the app’s icon in place if you expect to reinstall it later; tapping it downloads the app again when you are online.
Offloading is useful for an app whose documents or data matter, but it does not make those documents disappear. If the data itself is the large part, look for an in-app download manager or remove a different category.
Delete only after checking saves and local files
- Open the app and look for its account, backup, export, or cloud-save information.
- Confirm that anything important is synchronized or copied somewhere you can restore from.
- In Settings > General > iPhone Storage, tap the app and choose Delete App.
- Confirm the deletion and check the available-space figure again.
Do not assume that signing in later restores a local save. A developer may store progress in an account, in the device only, or in a separate backup system. Verify the app’s own instructions before deleting it.

Clean the largest local content safely
After apps, inspect the categories that commonly contain large local files. Work from the items you can recognize, and empty any recently deleted area only when you are certain you will not need to recover those items.
Files and downloaded documents
Open the Files app and inspect On My iPhone, iCloud Drive, and any connected locations. Sort or browse for large videos, archives, installers, exported projects, and duplicate documents. Delete only files you recognize. If a file is needed later but does not need to remain local, move it to a supported cloud location and verify that the upload completed before removing the device copy.

Safari downloads
In Safari, open the downloads list from the browser’s toolbar and remove completed downloads you no longer need. Then inspect the Files app’s download location, because the file itself may remain there after it disappears from Safari’s list. Avoid deleting a document that you still need offline.
Offline video, music, podcasts, and maps
Streaming apps can keep entire films, series, albums, podcast episodes, or map areas on the phone. Open each relevant app’s downloads or offline section, sort by size when the app supports it, and remove completed items that you can stream or download again later. This preserves the app while eliminating the local copy.

Messages and attachments
Large videos and images in conversations can occupy more space than the text itself. Review the conversation or the Messages storage details, identify attachments you no longer need, and delete individual items rather than an entire conversation when possible. Save anything important to Photos or Files first, and remember that deleting an attachment from the phone may remove your only local copy.
Photos and videos
Photos and videos are often the largest personal category. In Photos, review long videos, screen recordings, duplicates, and bursts. Delete only recognizable items, then review Recently Deleted if you need the storage immediately and are certain the items are not needed. Emptying that area removes the recovery option.
Do not delete photos merely because iPhone Storage labels the category as large. If you need the originals on the phone, keep them local or make a verified copy elsewhere first.
Unused apps and app-specific downloads
For apps you no longer use, the iPhone Storage list shows the potential space to recover. Prefer offloading when preserving documents and data matters. Inside apps that manage maps, media, language packs, or game assets, look for a download-management screen; removing an optional offline package may be safer than removing the entire app.
Use iCloud Photos only for the photo-storage case
If photos and videos dominate the storage breakdown, Optimize iPhone Storage can reduce the amount of local photo data. This requires iCloud Photos to be configured and enough iCloud capacity for the full-resolution library.

- Open Settings and tap your Apple Account name.
- Choose iCloud > Photos.
- Turn on Sync this iPhone if it is not already enabled.
- Select Optimize iPhone Storage.
With optimization enabled, Apple stores full-resolution photos and videos in iCloud while keeping space-saving copies on the iPhone when needed. The phone may not reclaim the entire category immediately; synchronization and optimization take time and depend on network access.
iCloud storage and iPhone storage are separate. Buying or adding iCloud capacity does not enlarge the phone’s local app-install capacity, and photo optimization is not a general substitute for freeing local space. It is relevant when the photo library is the specific bottleneck and you have sufficient iCloud capacity.

Because the game in this title is unspecified, do not rely on a generic “large JRPG” estimate. Open the exact game’s App Store product page and find the File size field. That is the practical first number to check for your device and region.
Apple’s documentation distinguishes a compressed download size from the app’s installed size on the customer’s device. The listing therefore may not represent every byte that will be occupied after installation. Apple’s review guidance says that apps needing additional resources to function on initial launch should disclose the size and prompt the user.
Check for a first-launch resource download
Read the game’s description, update notes, and any in-app notice shown after opening it. If the game announces an additional download, treat that figure as part of the installation plan. Do not assume that the App Store listing alone includes later voice packs, textures, chapters, or other resources.

App delivery can also vary because of app thinning: Apple can tailor an app variant to the device and operating-system version. Apple also describes on-demand resources that download when needed and can be purged by the operating system when space is low. These mechanisms explain why two devices may receive different payloads; they do not establish one exact requirement for every JRPG.
Compare the numbers without inventing a buffer

Use the game-specific figures together with the current available-space reading. Apple’s general advice to maintain at least 1 GB free is performance guidance to help avoid slowdowns, not a guarantee that every game will install with 1 GB available.
Recheck storage, then install in a controlled sequence
- Return to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and read the available amount again.
- Compare that amount with the game’s App Store File size and any stated additional download.
- Keep the iPhone connected to power and a reliable Wi-Fi network if the game is large or will download resources after launch.
- Open the App Store, locate the exact game listing, and start the installation.
- Watch for an in-game resource prompt after the icon appears. Read its size and confirm only when you have enough local space.
- If the installation stops for lack of space, return to iPhone Storage, remove another identifiable item, and retry after the storage figure updates.
Storage can change as apps update, photos synchronize, or temporary installation files are created. Check the displayed amount immediately before installation rather than relying on a figure from an earlier cleanup session.

The game will not download from the App Store
- Reopen iPhone Storage and identify the largest remaining category.
- Offload an app whose documents and data you want to keep.
- Remove a verified offline download or a large file you no longer need.
- Delete an app only after checking its save and backup arrangements.
- Recheck available space after each action before trying the download again.
The game installs but asks for more space on first launch
That prompt indicates that the initial app package did not contain every required resource. Cancel or postpone the resource download, free the additional space using the same inspection process, and then reopen the game. Do not delete personal photos, documents, or saves simply to satisfy an unexplained prompt; first read the size and the game’s own description.
Storage does not fall by the amount you expected
Offloading leaves documents and data, and app installation may use temporary space while it expands a compressed download. Wait for the storage screen to refresh, then check again. If an app’s documents, offline media, or cached files are the main portion, removing only the app binary will recover less than its headline size suggests.
You are unsure whether a file is safe to remove
Leave it in place until you can identify its owner and purpose. Open it from Files or the creating app, check whether it is duplicated elsewhere, and make a verified copy before deletion. A smaller, certain cleanup is safer than a large cleanup that risks irreplaceable data.
