The game’s instructions and surrounding text are translated into Portuguese, but the terminal output stays in English so players can match what they see on screen with the exact phrase the game tells them to find. If an instruction says to locate “Up 2 seconds,” translating that terminal line could make the instruction harder to follow.
Why keep the terminal in English?
In this design, terminal output is part of the reference players use to solve or follow an instruction. The game can explain what to do in Portuguese while leaving the output itself unchanged, preserving a direct match between the instruction and the words on screen.
That is a deliberate split, not necessarily an incomplete translation: the terminal remains a real terminal, and the game provides localized guidance around it. The available account does not establish the game’s name, its Portuguese locale, or whether its terminal contains other kinds of text.
How to follow Portuguese instructions when output is English

When it names a terminal phrase, look for that phrase exactly as written in English. For example, an instruction to find “Up 2 seconds” refers to that literal terminal text.

Keep the distinction clear: translate the explanation of what to do, but do not assume that quoted terminal wording has been translated.
This approach is useful when instructions depend on exact displayed wording. If terminal output itself were translated, the game would need to ensure that every instruction referring to it changed consistently too; otherwise, the reference and the displayed text could diverge.

Which Portuguese locale does the game use?
“Portuguese” does not identify one universal localization target. The IGDA Game Localization SIG guide treats Brazilian Portuguese (ptBR) and European/Iberian Portuguese (ptPT) as separate locale codes. The game’s particular target is not established here, so it should not be labeled Brazilian or European Portuguese without confirmation.
The IGDA guide defines localization as “the process of creating a product suited to a specific locale.” That is broader than translating words: it includes preparing resources, integrating them into an internationalized build, and testing, editing, and fixing locale-specific issues. Its Best Practices for Game Localization guide is a second draft dated February 1, 2012, so it is useful for these broad principles and the locale distinction, not for current engine-specific features.
How to test localized text without breaking the interface
A language change can affect more than wording. A practical localization check should cover both the translated game interface and the boundary between translated guidance and intentionally English output.

Test in context: inspect translated instructions in the actual screens where players use them, including any nearby terminal text they refer to.

Check the literal references: verify that a Portuguese instruction quoting terminal output still matches the English phrase displayed in the game.

Check fit and glyphs: ensure translated strings fit their UI elements and the chosen fonts render the characters required by the target locale.

Keep language choice flexible: Godot recommends allowing players to change the in-game language, since preferences and translation quality can vary.
Godot’s documentation also describes pseudolocalization: a testing aid that can help reveal missed localizable text, strings that do not fit, and some font-coverage problems. It does not establish whether terminal output has the right meaning or whether a quoted instruction matches it; those require checking the actual game text and output.

Leaving terminal output in English can preserve exact references while making the surrounding game understandable in Portuguese. It does not, by itself, tell players which Portuguese locale is supported, prove that every interface string has been translated, or establish that the game has been tested in both ptBR and ptPT.
For teams implementing a similar approach, the key distinction is to decide which text is player-facing guidance and which text must remain a literal reference. Keep translatable resources separate from code and use an appropriate character encoding, as the IGDA guide advises; then test the translated interface and the unchanged output as connected parts of the player experience.
