Artemis II is complete. NASA records the crewed lunar-flyby mission’s launch on April 1, 2026, splashdown on April 10, 2026, and total duration as 9 days, 1 hour, and 32 minutes. To follow it now, use NASA’s Artemis II mission page for the authoritative status and crew, the Artemis II News and Updates page for post-flight reporting, the dated Artemis blog archive for launch-day events, and NASA’s April 21 recap for a concise retrospective.
The most important distinction is between an investigation and a reported result. Artemis II was designed to produce information useful for future deep-space and lunar missions, but NASA’s June 5 science follow-up identifies continuing Earth-based work without, by itself, publishing a complete list of experiment-level findings or peer-reviewed papers.
Artemis II at a glance
Begin with the official mission page. It establishes that Artemis II is a finished mission rather than an upcoming broadcast and supplies the reference facts you should use when evaluating later articles.

| Mission status | Completed |
| Launch | April 1, 2026 |
| Splashdown | April 10, 2026 |
| Total duration | 9 days, 1 hour, and 32 minutes |
| Mission profile | Crewed lunar flyby |
| Crew | NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen |
| Strategic purpose | A step toward long-term human exploration of the Moon |
NASA describes the flight as “The first crewed Artemis flight” and says it “marks a key step toward long-term return to the Moon and future missions to Mars.” That wording describes the mission’s role in the exploration program; it is not a claim that Artemis II itself landed people on the lunar surface or completed every future exploration objective.

Choose the NASA page that matches your question
NASA separates status, live-event history, continuing coverage and retrospective material. Using the page that matches your question prevents an old launch update from being mistaken for a current announcement.
| NASA resource | Best use | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Artemis II mission page | Confirm the basic record | Mission status, dates, duration, crew and the lunar-flyby description |
| Artemis II News and Updates | Follow post-flight reporting | Dated articles about the completed mission and continuing science work on Earth |
| Artemis blog launch-day archive | Reconstruct launch-day coverage | Time-stamped milestones and links published during the launch-day sequence; the page states that times are Eastern |
| NASA’s April 21 mission recap | Get a short retrospective | A consolidated look at milestones, images, video and splashdown |
Step-by-step: follow the mission record after splashdown
1. Establish the completed status
- Open NASA’s Artemis II mission page.
- Check that the page identifies the mission as completed and shows the launch and splashdown dates.
- Use the crew list there when comparing articles or social posts. Names and mission roles are easier to verify from this single reference than from a reposted caption.
- Note the stated duration, 9 days, 1 hour, and 32 minutes. It is a mission figure, not a scientific measurement.
2. Read the launch-day archive as a historical log
- Open the Artemis blog’s Artemis II launch-day update.
- Read the entries in chronological order to see how NASA reported milestones as they occurred.
- Interpret every timestamp using the page’s stated Eastern time zone.
- Follow the entries’ embedded coverage links when you need the original context for a milestone, rather than treating a shortened quote as a complete update.
This archive is valuable for reconstructing the day’s sequence, but it is not a current countdown. NASA’s launch-day notice said NASA+ coverage would soon conclude, that 24/7 coverage would continue on NASA’s YouTube channel, and that the Artemis blog would carry milestone updates throughout the mission. That was the coverage plan published on launch day. It should not be read as a promise that a live Artemis II broadcast is still running now.
3. Move to the News and Updates hub for later reporting
- Open NASA’s Artemis II News and Updates page after checking the mission page.
- Scan the article dates and headlines rather than relying on the order in which a search engine displays them.
- Open each article whose date or subject matches the question you are trying to answer: mission milestones, imagery, operational follow-up or science work.
- Record the publication date beside any statement you share. Post-flight coverage can add context without changing the underlying launch, splashdown or duration figures.
NASA’s listing includes a June 5, 2026 article titled “NASA’s Artemis II Moon Mission Research Continues on Earth.” Its presence shows that analysis continued after splashdown. The listing alone does not establish a result for every investigation, a dataset release or a peer-reviewed publication.

4. Use the April 21 recap when you need the whole story quickly
NASA’s April 21, 2026 recap is the efficient starting point for readers who want a retrospective rather than a minute-by-minute reconstruction. It brings together milestones, images, video and splashdown material. Use the launch-day archive when the timing of individual events matters; use the recap when a consolidated narrative is enough.
How to read Artemis II science coverage accurately
Science reporting can use similar words for very different stages of work. Separate these stages before drawing a conclusion.
Mission objective
An objective is what the flight or an investigation was intended to examine. Artemis II’s broader purpose is to help advance long-term human exploration of the Moon and prepare for future deep-space missions. An objective is a plan, not evidence that a measurement reached a particular value.

Investigation or analysis
An investigation is the work performed with observations, samples, engineering data or other records after the flight. NASA’s June 5 article says Artemis II investigations continue on Earth and that they can support safe deep-space exploration and inform future lunar-surface science. “Continue” means the work is ongoing; it does not specify that every investigation has reached a final conclusion.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Reported finding
A finding is a result NASA has actually described, with enough context to understand what was measured, under what conditions and with what limitations. Look for a clear subject, a result and a date. If an article only says that data will inform future missions, treat that as significance or intended use rather than as a numerical result.
Publication or dataset status
A news article can discuss continuing analysis without linking a complete dataset or a peer-reviewed paper. Do not label an investigation “published” unless the specific NASA or scientific publication says so. The available NASA news listing does not provide a complete inventory of Artemis II investigation-level findings, datasets or papers.

A practical workflow for checking a claimed result
- Identify the claim. Copy the exact sentence, including any number, date, crew member or instrument name.
- Check the date. Decide whether it describes launch-day operations, a post-flight analysis or a later interpretation.
- Find the NASA article. Start at the Artemis II News and Updates hub, then open the dated item rather than relying on a headline excerpt.
- Classify the language. Mark the statement as an objective, an ongoing investigation, a reported finding or a future application.
- Look for measurement context. A credible result should identify what was measured and avoid presenting a mission duration or milestone count as a science statistic.
- Check publication wording. If NASA says analysis continues, do not upgrade that wording to “confirmed” or “final.”
- Save the page date. Keeping the date with your notes makes later updates easier to distinguish from the original report.
What the launch-day archive can and cannot tell you
Useful information in the archive
- The order in which NASA announced launch-day milestones.
- Contemporaneous explanations and links attached to those announcements.
- The time convention used by the page: Eastern time.
- How NASA directed viewers between NASA+, its YouTube channel and the Artemis blog during the launch-day coverage window.
Limits of an archived live page
- It is a record of a past coverage plan, not a current live feed.
- A time-stamped update may reflect what was known at that moment, while a later recap can provide a more complete account.
- The archive is not a substitute for the News and Updates hub when you are looking for Earth-based analysis after the flight.
Following science results without overclaiming
Use NASA’s news hub as the index, then read the underlying article closely. A responsible summary should preserve four details:
- Who reported it: identify NASA or the named investigation team when the article does so.
- When it was reported: include the article date, especially when work is still continuing.
- What stage it represents: distinguish planned objectives and ongoing analysis from a completed finding.
- Why it matters: explain the stated connection to safe deep-space exploration or future lunar-surface science without inventing a result that the article does not report.
For example, the June 5 article supports the statement that Artemis II science work continues on Earth and may inform future missions. It does not, from the listing alone, support a claim about a particular experiment’s numerical outcome, a medical conclusion, a radiation dose, a materials performance value or a published paper.

Using the wrong time zone
The launch-day page states that its times are Eastern. Convert them to your local zone only after recording the original time, so your notes remain traceable to NASA’s entry.
Calling an objective a result
Statements about supporting future lunar science describe intended value. They do not establish that a particular test succeeded or produced a measured number.
Treating a headline as a complete finding
Headlines compress context. Open the dated article, read the qualifications and check whether NASA describes work as continuing.

Assuming that a mission statistic is a science statistic
The 9-day, 1-hour, 32-minute duration is a factual mission measurement. It is not evidence for a biological, geological, materials or engineering conclusion.
Expecting one page to contain every update
The mission page, launch-day archive, News and Updates hub and April 21 recap serve different purposes. Switching to the hub after reviewing the archive is the reliable way to find post-flight reporting.
A simple reading plan
- First visit: read the mission page and note the completed status, crew, dates, duration and lunar-flyby description.
- Historical deep dive: use the launch-day archive to follow milestones in Eastern time.
- Retrospective: read the April 21 recap for consolidated images, video and splashdown coverage.
- Ongoing follow-up: return to Artemis II News and Updates for dated post-flight articles, including the June 5 Earth-based science follow-up.
- Verification: when you see a claimed science result elsewhere, locate the matching NASA article and preserve its wording and date in your notes.
This sequence gives you both kinds of information a post-mission reader usually needs: a dependable record of what happened and a cautious way to understand what scientists are still learning from the flight.
