If WordPress mail sent through MailPoet is missing, start at MailPoet > Help > System Status. A failed Task Scheduler or cron connection prevents MailPoet from processing its queue, while a working queue with empty inboxes usually points to the sending method, sender authentication, or deliverability. Check the scheduler first, then the active transport, logs, queue state, and (for Post Notifications) the email’s trigger, list, and template.
1. Check MailPoet System Status before changing anything
Open MailPoet > Help > System Status. This page brings the main failure points together: Task Scheduler Connection, Cron Status, Action Scheduler Status, Sending Queue, the MailPoet Sending Service connection, and database consistency. Record the exact status and error text before making changes; the wording usually identifies whether the problem is scheduling, transport, or a particular email.
Interpret the scheduler result
- Connection successful: the background endpoint can be reached. Continue to the queue, sending method, and logs.
- Connection unsuccessful: MailPoet cannot run its background process, so queued newsletters and other MailPoet-managed messages cannot be sent until the endpoint works.
- Cron, Action Scheduler, or queue errors: treat these as processing problems even when a test email appears correctly configured.
When System Status displays a cron URL, open that URL in a browser or an HTTP client. The expected response is exactly pong. A homepage, login screen, permission error, timeout, or server error means a firewall, authentication layer, proxy, security plugin, SSL problem, or host rule is intercepting the request.
2. Repair the MailPoet task scheduler
MailPoet cannot send on a reliable schedule if its worker never runs. Use the built-in scheduler first unless your server cron is known to be healthy.

- Find Newsletter Task Scheduler.
- Select WordPress built-in cron (recommended) and save.
- In your WordPress cron monitor or hosting control panel, verify that
mailpoet/cron/daemon-triggeris scheduled. - Run the event manually, if your cron tool allows it, and confirm that it completes without an error.
- Return to MailPoet > Help > System Status and rerun the checks.
When server-side cron is enabled
A server cron can be faster and more predictable than traffic-triggered WordPress cron, but only when the command, schedule, PHP binary, and site URL are correct. If System Status continues to show failures, switch back to the default Action Scheduler option while the server configuration is repaired. Do not leave a failing server cron selected merely because it is theoretically more efficient; an event that never runs leaves the queue at 0%.
Typical scheduler blockers
- Blocked loopback requests: WordPress cannot call its own endpoint. Ask the host to permit loopback requests for the site.
- Firewall or security-plugin rules: allow the MailPoet bridge and the cron endpoint instead of disabling security globally.
- Proxy or web-application-firewall challenges: exclude the internal request from browser challenges and login redirects.
- SSL or cURL failures: update the server’s cURL and PHP packages, install a valid certificate chain, and have the host raise cURL timeouts where appropriate.
- Authentication redirects: a cron URL that lands on a login page cannot be used by the worker. Remove the redirect for the endpoint or ask the host for the correct allow-list rule.
3. Fix cURL, SSL, proxy, and host-level errors
The exact error shown in System Status determines the next action. Error 28 indicates a cURL timeout; error 35 indicates an SSL connection failure. “Forbidden” responses generally mean a firewall, proxy, or security rule rejected the request. These are infrastructure faults, not newsletter-content faults.
- For cURL error 28, ask the host to raise outbound cURL timeouts and check whether DNS or a firewall is delaying the request.
- For cURL forbidden, provide the host the blocked URL and request an allow-list exception for MailPoet’s bridge and loopback traffic.
- For SSL error 35, have the host verify the certificate chain, TLS support, cURL version, and PHP build.
- For proxy or firewall failures, permit outbound HTTPS and the site’s loopback calls; a security plugin may need an equivalent exclusion.
After each host-side change, run the System Status checks again. A successful browser visit to a page is not proof that a background HTTP request works; the cron endpoint must return pong without a login or redirect.
4. Confirm which service is actually sending mail
Open MailPoet > Settings > Advanced > Send all site’s emails with…. The selected option controls newsletters and, when enabled, site emails such as password resets and WooCommerce notifications. Troubleshooting the wrong transport produces misleading results.

MailPoet’s own Sending Service, SMTP, Amazon SES, and SendGrid paths do not pass the message through WordPress’s wp_mail. Consequently, WP Mail Logging will not show those messages. Use MailPoet’s Advanced logging and a controlled test instead.
Choose a transport deliberately
The right choice depends on what you need to send. A site relying heavily on newsletters and wanting MailPoet-managed delivery can use the Sending Service, provided the plan, key, and domain are valid. A site with an existing SMTP, SES, or SendGrid account can connect that provider directly, but must use its authentication and activity logs when diagnosing failures. The WordPress method is the simplest path to test with wp_mail, yet its final delivery depends on the host’s mail stack. Do not switch methods repeatedly during one investigation: record the current method, reproduce the error, and change only one variable at a time.

5. Revalidate the Sending Service account and domain
If the selected method is MailPoet’s Sending Service, a stale key, inactive plan, or unauthenticated domain can stop delivery even when the scheduler is healthy.
- In the MailPoet settings, revalidate the MailPoet key and confirm that the connected plan is active.
- Check the sending-domain authentication state and complete any required DNS records with your domain provider.
- Use a domain-specific From address. Avoid free-mail From addresses such as Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail for a site that sends through its own domain.
- Keep the From and Reply-To identities aligned and avoid role-based addresses such as
noreply@oradmin@when your recipients or provider policy reject them.
MailPoet cites new requirements from large providers, including Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, and Outlook, when explaining its 2024 authenticated-domain requirement. Authentication improves acceptance but does not guarantee inbox placement: content, links, reputation, and recipient-side filtering still matter.
6. Turn on the right logs and run a targeted test
Do not begin with a full newsletter blast. First enable a diagnostic level, send one controlled message to an address you can inspect, and then turn verbose logging back down.
- Open MailPoet > Settings > Advanced > Logging.
- Select Errors only for routine monitoring or Everything while reproducing the failure.
- Send a targeted test transactional email, such as a password-reset request for a test account, or use MailPoet’s test function when diagnosing a newsletter.
- Read the full error, including the provider response, HTTP status, retry count, and timestamp.
- When the cause is identified, return logging to Errors only so normal operation does not create unnecessary log volume.
Choose the logger that matches the path
Use WP Mail Logging only when the active method is WordPress’s wp_mail. It records that WordPress traffic but cannot observe messages sent directly through MailPoet’s Sending Service, SMTP, Amazon SES, or SendGrid. For those methods, MailPoet’s Advanced logging is the authoritative first check.
MailPoet does not log transactional emails by default. Enable logging before repeating a password-reset or WooCommerce test; otherwise an empty log does not prove that no message was attempted.
7. Clear a paused queue or a newsletter stuck at 0%
Open System Status and inspect the Sending Queue, then open the affected email’s history. A task stuck at 0% usually means the worker cannot reach the sending service or cannot start processing. A paused queue means sending was paused manually or after MailPoet detected a problem.

- Read the last-seen error and note whether the retry count is increasing.
- Fix the scheduler or transport error before repeatedly pressing resume; retries against a blocked endpoint only add noise.
- After the endpoint returns
pongand the transport credentials are valid, resume the queue and watch whether the processed count advances. - If the queue remains unchanged, capture the new full log entry and give it to the host or provider; the timestamp and error distinguish a cron failure from a provider rejection.
A newsletter can report that it was sent while individual recipients still see nothing. In that case, inspect sender authentication, From/Reply-To alignment, content, and links, then check spam or quarantine at the recipient domain.
8. Repair Post Notifications that never run
For automated post emails, go to MailPoet > Emails > Post Notifications > View history. The history status narrows the fault.

This normally points to a sending-service or scheduler problem. Follow the System Status and queue steps first; editing the article will not repair a worker that cannot run.
“Paused”
MailPoet paused the email manually or after detecting a problem. Resolve the displayed error, verify the queue, and resume it deliberately. If it pauses again, capture the new error instead of repeatedly resuming.
“Rendering problem”
The template may be corrupted or contain an unsupported element. Recreate the email from a clean template, then add content in small increments and test after each major block.
No history entry or no recipients
- Confirm the Post Notification is Active.
- Verify that the post meets the configured trigger conditions, such as its category or publication event.
- Include the Automatic Latest Content block when the notification requires it.
- Check that the target list contains subscribed recipients. Subscribers who are not on that list cannot receive the message.
- Confirm that the recipients are subscribed rather than merely present as inactive or unconfirmed contacts.
If the status and trigger are correct but the template repeatedly reports a rendering problem, recreate the email instead of continuing to edit the damaged copy.

9. Password-reset and WooCommerce emails: isolate the failure
Password-reset and WooCommerce messages are transactional emails, not ordinary newsletters. First confirm whether Send all site’s emails with… routes them through MailPoet. Then run one targeted transaction while logging is enabled.
- If WordPress’s built-in method is selected, inspect
wp_mailwith WP Mail Logging and then check the host’s mail delivery. - If MailPoet’s Sending Service is selected, inspect MailPoet’s Advanced log and the Sending Service connection; its host fallback can help with transactional delivery when the service is unavailable.
- If SMTP, Amazon SES, or SendGrid is selected, inspect MailPoet’s log and the provider’s activity. A provider outage may lose a transactional message instead of holding it for a later retry.
Do not infer success from the browser’s “email sent” notice. That message only confirms that WordPress accepted the request; the scheduler, transport, provider, and recipient mailbox still have to complete their parts.
10. Separate sending failure from inbox placement
Once the queue advances and the provider accepts the message, the remaining problem may be delivery rather than sending. Confirm that the From address belongs to the site’s domain, that the domain is authenticated for the chosen provider, and that Reply-To is sensible. Then inspect the recipient’s spam or quarantine folder and review the message’s links and content. A successful handoff does not guarantee inbox placement, especially when a provider flags unauthenticated domains, suspicious links, or poor sender reputation.
Test with more than one mailbox when possible, including addresses at different major providers. If one provider receives the message and another does not, keep the scheduler and queue configuration unchanged and focus on authentication, content, links, and recipient filtering. Changing cron settings cannot correct a mailbox-level filtering decision.

11. What to send your host or provider
Escalation is faster when the report contains reproducible facts. Include the System Status error verbatim, the cron URL and its response (especially whether it returns pong), the selected scheduler mode, the active sending method, the time of the failed test, and the full MailPoet log entry. Note whether the request returned a timeout, forbidden response, SSL error, homepage, or login page. For a provider ticket, add the sending domain, From address, plan or account status, and any provider activity identifier. Avoid sending subscriber data unnecessarily; a timestamp and test recipient are usually enough to locate the event.
Ask hosting support specifically to verify loopback access, outbound HTTPS, DNS resolution, cURL and PHP versions, certificate-chain validation, proxy rules, firewall allow-lists, and the execution of mailpoet/cron/daemon-trigger. A generic statement that “the website loads” does not test these background requirements.

12. A repeatable recovery checklist
- Open MailPoet > Help > System Status and record every failing check.
- Make the cron endpoint return
pongand remove login, homepage, timeout, SSL, or forbidden responses. - Use WordPress built-in cron (recommended) unless a verified server cron is working.
- Confirm
mailpoet/cron/daemon-triggerruns without errors. - Identify the active transport under Send all site’s emails with….
- Use WP Mail Logging only for
wp_mail; use MailPoet Advanced logging for direct and third-party paths. - Revalidate the MailPoet key, plan, sending domain, and domain-based From address.
- Check queue status, retries, paused state, and the last full error.
- For Post Notifications, verify Active status, trigger conditions, Automatic Latest Content, list membership, and template integrity.
- Run one controlled transactional test before resuming a large campaign.
Once the scheduler is healthy, the transport is authenticated, and the relevant log shows a successful handoff, monitor a small send before restoring normal volume. This separates a fixed processing problem from a remaining inbox-placement problem.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my MailPoet email stuck at 0%?
A task stuck at 0% usually means the scheduler cannot start or cannot reach the sending service. Check System Status, make the cron URL return pong, inspect the queue’s last error, and verify the selected transport before resuming.
Why are my MailPoet newsletters paused?
MailPoet may have paused sending manually or after detecting a problem. Read the displayed error, fix the scheduler or transport issue, then resume once and watch whether the processed count advances.
Will WP Mail Logging show MailPoet messages?
