Start with Filmmaker Mode for unnatural motion, then reduce or disable motion smoothing if artifacts remain. If colors or color temperature jump between scenes, test the PX4 Pro with Scenario Enhancement turned off. For a measured starting point, one 2026 review used Filmmaker Mode, Warm 2, Dynamic Tone Mapping on, and Film motion—but still found occasional dark-scene color errors. Treat these as controlled troubleshooting steps, not a universal calibration.
Work through the same reference scene after each change. First determine whether the symptom affects every input, only HDR, one picture preset, or only dim material; that pattern prevents you from “fixing” a source or signal problem by changing global settings.
Identify exactly what is wrong before changing settings
“Washed out” can mean lifted blacks, low color saturation, a cool or warm cast, or a source that is outputting the wrong range. Motion complaints can mean artificial soap-opera smoothness, judder, double images, or processing artifacts around moving objects. Record the symptom and its conditions before making a change.

- Signal type: Compare SDR and HDR using the same scene where possible. HDR tone mapping can make a picture appear brighter or flatter than SDR without indicating a hardware fault.
- Picture mode: Note whether the problem appears in Standard, Vivid, Theater, Game, or another preset. A mode-specific problem usually calls for changing that mode rather than every mode.
- Scene brightness: Use one bright scene and one dark scene. The PX4 Pro reviews cited scene-dependent color behavior, so judging a single dark shot can lead to the wrong conclusion.
Do not change several controls at once. Keep a short record of the original mode and value, make one adjustment, replay the same passage, and decide whether the result is better, worse, or simply different.

Stop soap-opera motion and motion artifacts
Use Filmmaker Mode as the first test
What Hi-Fi? reported that Filmmaker Mode corrected the motion problems it observed on its PX4 Pro sample. Select that mode and replay the scene that looked unnaturally fluid or showed halos around moving subjects. Filmmaker Mode is a diagnostic baseline as well as a viewing choice: it generally avoids the aggressive frame interpolation used by more processed presets.
If the motion now looks natural and detail remains stable, keep the mode for film and television. If you need a brighter or more game-oriented preset, copy the comparison process rather than assuming its motion defaults are equivalent.
Reduce or disable motion smoothing in other modes
Tom’s Guide described heavy default smoothing that produced artifacts in some action scenes. In the active picture preset, find the motion-smoothing or motion-enhancement control and lower it in stages, ending with it off if necessary. The exact label and menu location can vary by firmware; use the label shown by the projector rather than a television guide.
Recommended Free Tools
Replay a pan, a fast ball, and a scene with fine lines such as railings. Look for:
- an artificial video-like fluidity (the soap-opera effect);
- bright or dark outlines around a moving actor;
- warping in the background when an object crosses the frame;
- repeated or missing frames during a camera pan.
As Tom’s Guide reviewer Mark Knapp wrote, “Disabling or limiting this motion is simple and makes for a more pleasant viewing experience.” If turning smoothing off reveals ordinary film judder, that is a source frame-rate characteristic, not necessarily a projector defect.

Separate motion processing from source problems
Test a second source at the same frame rate. A streaming box, console, or receiver can add its own interpolation or frame conversion before the PX4 Pro receives the signal. Disable those features at the source first, then compare the projector’s Filmmaker Mode and motion control. A problem that follows one device is not evidence that the projector’s optical engine is failing.
Stop abrupt color or color-temperature changes
Test Scenario Enhancement off
Tom’s Guide observed scene-dependent color and color-temperature swings when Scenario Enhancement was active, sometimes with a brief blackout during the change. Turn this automatic feature off, replay the same bright-to-dark transition, and watch whether skin tones, neutral walls, and gray objects stay consistent. This is a reviewer observation from one sample, not proof that every PX4 Pro color problem has the same cause.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf disabling it removes the swings, leave it off while you evaluate other controls. If nothing changes, restore the original setting if you prefer its processing and continue with the input and picture-mode checks below.
Compare neutral objects, not just colorful scenes
Use white subtitles, a gray shirt, a cloudy sky, and familiar skin tones as references. A warm or cool bias is easier to see on neutral objects than on a highly saturated movie scene. Check at least one bright and one dark sequence because What Hi-Fi? found its sample’s color behavior was not uniform across brightness levels.
Choose a reliable picture baseline
Projector Reviews described the factory presets as well calibrated for most viewers. Begin by comparing Filmmaker Mode with Theater Night and Theater Day (or the closest labels shown on your unit) before making manual adjustments. This gives you a known reference and makes it easier to undo an unsuccessful change.

| Goal | Starting point | What to check | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural movie motion | Filmmaker Mode | Pans, faces, and fine detail without interpolation artifacts | May look less bright or “smooth” than processed presets |
| General bright-room viewing | Theater Day or the nearest calibrated factory preset | Shadow detail and highlight clipping in your room | More brightness can make blacks appear less deep |
| Dark-room viewing | Theater Night or Filmmaker Mode | Black level, low-level detail, and neutral grays | A darker preset may not overcome a bright room or low-gain screen |
| Reviewer-tested manual starting point | Filmmaker Mode; Warm 2; Dynamic Tone Mapping on; Film motion | Color neutrality in bright and dark scenes | What Hi-Fi? still saw intermittent dark-scene color issues |
The What Hi-Fi? combination is a reference, not a calibration file. Numeric values copied from another owner or review can fail when the projector, firmware, screen, room, or signal differs. Make one adjustment at a time and retain the preset’s original values until you know the result is better.
Set color temperature deliberately
What Hi-Fi? found Warm 2 noticeably warm on its sample, while cooler profiles could overshoot in the opposite direction in some dark scenes. Compare Warm 2 with the next cooler option using neutral objects and skin tones across several scenes. Choose the profile that remains believable rather than the one that looks most striking in a single frame.
Understand Dynamic Tone Mapping
The cited reviewer’s starting point left Dynamic Tone Mapping on. Tone mapping changes how HDR highlight and shadow information is fitted to the projector’s available light. If HDR looks flat, compare the setting with the same HDR scene and confirm that the source is still outputting HDR. Do not judge tone mapping with an SDR signal or use a change in HDR brightness as proof that color accuracy improved.
Improve weak blacks without making the image too dim
The PX4 Pro’s fixed iris creates a direct brightness-versus-contrast choice. ProjectorScreen.com reported that closing the iris improved black level and native contrast while reducing brightness. A more closed position can suit a dark room and a bright screen; a more open position may be preferable when ambient light or screen size already makes the image too dim.
| If your priority is… | Try | Check for |
|---|---|---|
| Deeper blacks in a dark room | Close the fixed iris incrementally | Whether shadow detail disappears and highlights lose impact |
| Maximum brightness in ambient light | Use a more open iris position | Raised blacks, gray-looking letterbox bars, or reduced perceived contrast |
| Balanced everyday viewing | Choose an intermediate position | Black level and readability in both dark and bright scenes |
There is no universally correct iris setting. Screen size, screen gain, viewing distance, room reflections, and your tolerance for reduced brightness determine the useful compromise. Change the iris before chasing multiple contrast controls; otherwise you may compensate for a brightness choice with inaccurate gamma or black-level adjustments.

Check the signal before recalibrating
Verify range and HDR handling at the source
A projector can look gray or washed out when a source and display disagree about video range. Check the source device’s output options and make sure they are appropriate for the signal type; do not force a full-range setting on a device that expects limited-range video, or vice versa. Change one device at a time and use a black-level test pattern or a scene containing near-black detail.
For HDR, confirm that the source actually switches to HDR and that the PX4 Pro’s information screen (if available) reports the expected format. If only HDR is affected, compare tone-mapping and HDR picture controls rather than altering the SDR preset.
Rule out the cable and intermediary equipment
Temporarily connect the source directly to the projector with a known-good cable and bypass an AV receiver or switch. A stable direct connection that fixes the colors points to the intermediary path or its format-conversion settings. If the symptom appears on every source, including a built-in app or projector-generated screen, continue with picture-mode and firmware checks.

Reset only after narrowing down the cause
A reset can remove an accidental picture adjustment, but it also discards working input settings. Use it after you have recorded the symptom, tested another source, compared the factory presets, and checked the installed firmware. Confirm the reset command and its warning on the projector’s own screen. Because the available manual is not PX4 Pro-specific, do not rely on its television navigation as an exact projector procedure.
After a reset, test Filmmaker Mode and the same reference scenes before restoring personal preferences. If the symptom remains across inputs and presets, document the firmware version, source formats, scene examples, and settings that reproduce it; that information is more useful to Hisense support than a general report that the picture looks bad.

| Measurement | Reported value | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Brightness | 3,612 ANSI lumens | Tom’s Guide’s 2026 nine-point lux-meter result; slightly above the 3,500-lumen rating cited by the reviewer |
| Full-on/full-off contrast | 12,417:1 | Tom’s Guide’s 2026 result; an extreme laboratory-style measure that does not represent most mixed real-world scenes |
| Color coverage | 100% sRGB; 98% DCI-P3; 96% BT.2020 | Tom’s Guide colorimeter readings for its sample and settings |
| Claimed peak brightness | 3,500 lumens | Manufacturer-quoted specification reported by What Hi-Fi?, not an independent measurement in that passage |
| Claimed color coverage | 118% BT.2020 | Manufacturer-quoted specification reported by What Hi-Fi? |
These numbers explain why a properly configured PX4 Pro can be bright and wide-gamut, but they cannot identify the cause of a particular owner’s washed-out image. Room reflections, screen material, source range, HDR tone mapping, picture mode, and unit-to-unit variation all affect what you see.
A quick decision path
- Motion looks like live video or has halos: select Filmmaker Mode; if you remain in another preset, reduce or disable motion smoothing and replay the same action scene.
- Color or temperature jumps between scenes: turn Scenario Enhancement off and compare a bright-to-dark sequence.
- Everything looks too warm or too cool: compare Warm 2 with a cooler profile using gray objects and skin tones across multiple scenes.
- HDR looks flat or clipped: verify the source is sending HDR, then compare Dynamic Tone Mapping settings without changing unrelated SDR controls.
- Blacks look gray: close the fixed iris one step at a time, accepting lower brightness, and check that shadow detail remains visible.
- Only one input is wrong: check that device’s range, HDR output, cable, receiver, and format conversion before changing projector-wide settings.
- Every input remains wrong: check the projector’s firmware, consider a documented reset, and contact support with reproducible details rather than copying a television menu procedure.
The practical goal is stable, natural motion; consistent neutral color from bright to dark scenes; and enough black depth for your room without sacrificing needed brightness. The reviewer-tested settings are a sensible starting experiment, while the correct final values depend on your screen, room, source, firmware, and visual preference.
