If Warzone shows “Disconnected from Steam”, first check whether Activision or Steam is reporting a service problem. If both appear available, restart Steam and your PC, verify Warzone’s files in Steam, and then test for software, security, or connection interference. The message is a symptom—not proof of one cause—and Activision and Steam do not identify a guaranteed fix for this exact error.
What the “Disconnected from Steam” error means
The wording tells you Warzone has lost or cannot maintain its Steam connection; it does not reveal why. Possible causes include a service interruption, Steam connectivity, damaged or inconsistent game files, a conflicting background program, security software or firewall permissions, or an unreliable local connection. Treat each troubleshooting step as a way to narrow down the cause rather than a guaranteed cure.
How to troubleshoot Warzone disconnected from Steam on PC
1. Check Activision and Steam service status
Start with the Activision Online Services page and Steam’s network connectivity guide, which points users to Steam server status. If either service reports an outage or alert, wait for it to clear before changing local settings: file verification or firewall adjustments will not resolve a service-side interruption.

2. Restart Steam and the PC
Exit Steam, restart the computer, then open Steam and launch Warzone again. This is a simple diagnostic step, not a confirmed fix. If the disconnect began after a Steam client update or a firewall prompt, note that timing: Steam says a recent client update can coincide with firewall blocking, so permissions may need review.

3. Verify Warzone’s installed files in Steam
Activision explicitly recommends verifying the game files for Steam players. In Steam, open Library, right-click Call of Duty, select Properties, open Installed Files, and choose Verify integrity of game files. Let the check finish before launching the game again. Steam checks the installation and can repair discrepancies; this does not address an outage or unstable connection. See Activision’s PC troubleshooting guidance.
4. Close possible conflicting background programs
Activision advises disabling programs that may interfere with Warzone or Steam. Its examples include NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner, and Razer Cortex. Close these—and other nonessential overlays or monitoring tools you recently installed or updated—then retest. An example on Activision’s list is a candidate to test, not proof that it caused your disconnect. If closing a program changes the result, re-enable items one at a time to identify a possible conflict.

5. Check antivirus and firewall permissions
Activision advises adding the entire Warzone game folder to your antivirus exception list. Steam’s firewall guide also explains that Steam executables need appropriate firewall permissions, including after some client updates. Review the rules in the security software you use and allow the relevant game and Steam components rather than broadly weakening protection.
If you briefly disable a firewall to test whether it is involved, turn it back on immediately afterward. Steam does not recommend leaving the firewall disabled. Prefer correcting a specific blocked rule to leaving protection off.

6. Test whether Wi-Fi or the local connection is involved
If you use Wi-Fi, connect the PC to the router with Ethernet if possible and retry. Activision says Wi-Fi reliability varies and states, “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay,” in its Warzone connection guide, dated November 14, 2022. A wired test can help isolate Wi-Fi or local-link instability; it cannot rule out or fix a Steam, game-file, or service problem. If Ethernet is not practical, compare the result on another stable connection, if available.

If Warzone keeps disconnecting from Steam
Check service status again, then record what happens during another attempt. In particular, note whether other Steam games or services also disconnect and whether the problem changes after file verification, closing a suspected background program, reviewing permissions, or testing another connection.

- If Activision or Steam reports an alert, wait for the service issue to be addressed.
- If other Steam games or services disconnect too, the problem may extend beyond Warzone; contact Steam support or your internet service provider as the evidence indicates.
- If only Warzone is affected after the checks above, contact Activision Support and include the exact error, when it began, and which steps changed the behavior.
Activision’s connection troubleshooting guidance advises contacting your internet service provider if its network troubleshooting does not resolve connectivity issues. No reviewed official source gives a success rate or names one guaranteed remedy for “Disconnected from Steam.”
Keep the troubleshooting focused
Do not jump to broad firewall shutdowns, unsupported port changes, registry edits, or a Windows reinstall based on this message alone. The official guidance supports checking services, verifying files, testing possible software conflicts, reviewing security permissions, and isolating connection quality. More disruptive network changes require a specific diagnosis; the error text by itself does not provide one.
