If Tormented Souls 2 crashes, freezes, or refuses to start on Nintendo Switch 2, use Nintendo’s standard recovery sequence: restart the console, install every available system and game update, check the game for corrupted data, and delete and redownload the software if necessary. If the game is installed on a microSD Express card, test it from system memory. These are platform-level fixes, not confirmed fixes for a known Tormented Souls 2 defect.
Nintendo lists the Switch 2 release for 15 October 2026. The available official information was gathered before that date, so there is no verified Switch 2 crash rate, launch bug, day-one patch, or title-specific workaround to report. The steps below are therefore careful diagnostics based on Nintendo’s current Switch 2 guidance, with separate instructions for freezes, software-error closures, digital downloads, and physical editions.
What is actually confirmed about the Switch 2 version
Nintendo’s game listing gives 15 October 2026 as the Switch 2 release date for Tormented Souls 2: Nintendo game listing. PQube identifies Dual Effect Games as the developer and lists the original release as 23 October 2025, with the Switch 2 version coming on 15 October 2026: PQube game page.
Because the available information predates the scheduled Switch 2 launch, it does not establish that this game is known to crash, freeze, or fail to launch on the console. It also does not verify a Switch 2-specific patch or a successful fix for any particular player. Treat the procedure here as a safe troubleshooting flow for Switch 2 software. After launch, check new Nintendo or PQube notices for changes before assuming that a reported symptom is a widespread defect.

Identify the symptom before changing anything
The action that makes sense depends on what the console is doing. Use this table to choose the first branch rather than repeatedly forcing the console off.

Do not confuse Tormented Souls 2 with the first Tormented Souls or with Remothered: Tormented Fathers. Their fixes and compatibility information may be unrelated.
Step 1: Restart the console safely
When the console still responds
- Hold the console’s POWER button for three seconds.
- Choose Power Options.
- Select Restart.
- After the HOME Menu appears, start Tormented Souls 2 once and see whether the same action reproduces the problem.
A normal restart is the correct first response to a temporary freeze or a software-close message because it does not require an immediate forced shutdown. Note the exact point at which the game fails before trying additional changes; that information is useful if support is needed.

- Hold POWER for 12 seconds. This forces the console off.
- Wait for the console to finish shutting down, then press POWER once to turn it on.
- Reopen the game and check whether the failure returns.
Use the 12-second hold only when the normal menu cannot be reached. If the console repeatedly becomes unresponsive, stop repeating the cycle and continue with the update and data checks below.

Step 2: Update Switch 2 system software
- Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Scroll to System.
- Choose System Update.
- Allow the console to check and install any offered update, following the on-screen prompts.
- Restart if the console requests it, then test the game again.
Nintendo’s dedicated guidance for a message saying software had to close starts with restarting and verifying that the system is up to date: Nintendo crash-message guidance. This update check is a compatibility step; it is not evidence that a particular Switch 2 system release fixes Tormented Souls 2.
Step 3: Install the game’s software update
- Return to the HOME Menu and highlight Tormented Souls 2 without launching it.
- Press the + or − button to open the software options.
- Choose Software Update.
- Select Via the Internet and let the console complete the check and installation.
- Launch the game again and, if possible, revisit the same menu, scene, or action that triggered the failure.
A game update can only be installed if Nintendo or the publisher has made one available for your edition and region. Do not infer that a patch listed for another platform is present on Switch 2.
Step 4: Check the game for corrupted data
Nintendo’s downloaded-game troubleshooting sequence includes checking the software for corrupted data before deleting and redownloading it. The exact menu wording can vary slightly with system software, so follow the on-screen option presented in System Settings for checking the affected software’s data. Run the check for Tormented Souls 2, allow it to finish, and then restart the game.
If the console reports damaged data, follow its repair or redownload prompt. If it reports no problem but the same failure continues, proceed to a complete delete and redownload rather than repeatedly launching a copy that may not have installed correctly. Step 5: Delete and redownload a digital copy
Use this step after restarting, updating, and checking the data. Make sure the console has a reliable internet connection and enough free storage for the download. Nintendo’s store information advises leaving sufficient space for downloads, and regional listings can state different download-size figures, so there is no single size that should be treated as universal.
- From the HOME Menu, open the software options for Tormented Souls 2 with + or −.
- Choose the option to delete the software, then confirm the on-screen warning.
- Return to the HOME Menu and redownload the title from the Nintendo eShop or the console’s software-redownload area associated with the account that obtained it.
- Wait for the installation to complete before launching the game.
- Test the same circumstance that previously caused the crash or freeze.
Deleting and redownloading replaces the installed program files; it is not a claim that the game itself is defective. If the failure follows the title after a clean download, record that result for support instead of deleting and reinstalling indefinitely.
Step 6: Test system memory instead of microSD Express
Switch 2 supports microSD Express cards, but removable storage is optional. Nintendo’s general guidance for a downloaded title that misbehaves includes testing without the card or installing the software to system memory. This is a diagnostic comparison, not an established Tormented Souls 2 crash fix.

- Power the console off normally. If it is frozen and cannot shut down through the menu, use the 12-second POWER hold described earlier.
- Remove the microSD Express card according to Nintendo’s hardware instructions.
- Turn the console on and redownload or install Tormented Souls 2 to system memory, if the console offers that destination.
- Launch the system-memory installation and compare the result with the card installation.
How to interpret the result
- If the system-memory copy works while the card copy fails, leave the game in system memory while you contact Nintendo or investigate the card and its installation. The result does not prove that every card or every copy of the game is incompatible.
- If both installations fail in the same way, removable storage is less likely to be the deciding factor. Keep the error details and continue to support rather than buying a card as a supposed fix.
- If you need more capacity, choose a microSD Express card that meets Nintendo’s compatibility requirements. Capacity alone does not guarantee that it will resolve a crash.

If you own a physical edition
PQube has announced a physical Switch 2 edition, but the announcement does not document a physical-media launch fault or a special installation procedure. A physical copy can still fail to launch if the wrong edition is inserted, the game card or key card is not seated correctly, or the console needs an update.
- Confirm that the packaging identifies the Switch 2 edition of Tormented Souls 2, not the original Switch release or another game in the series.
- Power the console down before removing and reinserting the card. Follow the insertion direction and handling instructions supplied with the console and the game packaging.
- Start the console, highlight the game on HOME, and use Software Update followed by Via the Internet if an update is offered.
- If the title still will not launch, test another known-good game card if one is available. This comparison helps distinguish a console or card-reader problem from a single title, but it is not a diagnosis of Tormented Souls 2.

For a message that says software needed to close, Nintendo’s dedicated article instructs players to restart the console, verify the system update, reopen the software, and return to the circumstance in which the error occurred: Nintendo error-message article.
- Photograph or write down the complete message and any numeric code before dismissing it.
- Restart through POWER → Power Options → Restart, unless the console is unresponsive.
- Check System Settings → System → System Update.
- Open Tormented Souls 2 and reproduce the same action once.
- If the message returns, stop testing long enough to preserve the details and contact Nintendo or PQube support with the information listed below.
Do not describe the message as proof of a game-wide bug. The same wording can be produced by different software, storage, or system conditions, and no Switch 2-specific cause has been verified here.

Patch information: what you can and cannot assume
PQube announced a patch for Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG.com, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement says those versions were brought to PC patch 1.5.0.12, released on 18 June 2026: PQube patch announcement.
The page title uses the phrase “all platforms,” but its explicit platform list does not include the not-yet-released Switch 2 version. Therefore, do not claim that patch 1.5.0.12 is installed on Switch 2, that it fixes a Switch 2 crash, or that the Switch 2 build has the same code as the listed console versions. Check the game’s own software-update screen and later Nintendo or PQube notices for confirmed Switch 2 information.
When storage, updates, and redownloading do not help
At that point, the most useful next step is a support report, not a purchase or a speculative workaround. Nintendo’s error guidance directs players to contact support when the problem persists after restarting and updating. PQube is the publisher for this title, so its support channels may also need the game-specific details.
Collect these details first
- The exact symptom: freeze, forced shutdown, immediate return to HOME, or software-error message.
- The complete error text and numeric code, copied exactly or shown in a photograph.
- When it happens: at startup, during a particular scene, after selecting a save, after changing a setting, or at another repeatable point.
- The installed Tormented Souls 2 software version, shown in the software information or update screen.
- The Nintendo Switch 2 system-software version.
- Whether the copy is digital or physical, and whether a digital copy is installed on system memory or microSD Express.
- Which steps you completed: restart, system update, game update, data check, redownload, and storage-location test.
- Whether another game behaves normally on the same console.
Do not claim that support has confirmed a cause or supplied a fix unless you receive and can verify that response. A clear report lets Nintendo or PQube separate a title-specific problem from a wider console, storage, account, or installation issue.
A compact decision path
Use this order so each test gives you useful information:
- Freeze with a responsive console: restart normally.
- Unresponsive console: hold POWER for 12 seconds, turn it back on, and record that forced shutdown was necessary.
- Any symptom after recovery: update Switch 2 through System Settings → System → System Update.
- Update the game: highlight it on HOME, press + or −, then choose Software Update → Via the Internet.
- Still failing: check the game for corrupted data.
- Digital copy still failing: delete and redownload it with adequate free space.
- Installed on microSD Express: test a system-memory installation or test without the card.
- Failure remains: preserve the exact message, versions, edition, storage location, and repeatable trigger, then contact support.
This sequence avoids treating an optional storage accessory, a patch for another platform, or an unverified online report as a guaranteed cure. It also gives support a reproducible history instead of only the statement that the game “keeps crashing.”
