If the Starbucks app will not open, hangs on its loading screen, or says it cannot connect, work through the checks in this order: force-close and reopen it, restart your phone, install available app and operating-system updates, then test another network. On an iPhone or iPad, Apple also recommends deleting and redownloading the app as a last resort; make sure you know your Starbucks sign-in details first because deleting an app can remove data stored in it. Account, balance, payment, and delivery problems need the Starbucks support channel for your country.
First, identify what is actually failing
“The Starbucks app is broken” can describe several different failures. Separating them prevents you from deleting the app when the real problem is a password, a payment method, a store-selection requirement, or a network that is offline.

Starbucks provides an app for iPhone and Android. Its core functions include ordering ahead, browsing the menu, and finding cafés; joining Starbucks Rewards is optional. Mobile payment, Mobile Order and Pay, delivery, and other features can vary by market and location and may change, so an option shown in one country or café is not proof that it should appear in yours.
Before changing anything, protect your account
- Confirm that you know the email address and password used for your Starbucks account. You may need them after an update or reinstall.
- If you use a stored payment card, have another payment method available in case the app or a particular café temporarily cannot use it.
- Note whether other apps and websites work on the same phone. This distinguishes an app-specific failure from a broader connection problem.
- Record the exact symptom, time, phone platform, and whether you were on Wi‑Fi or cellular data. Those details make a support request more actionable.
Do not assume that reinstalling will preserve every locally stored item. Apple specifically warns that deleting an app can remove data stored in that app. The available Starbucks guidance does not establish which Starbucks data is retained or removed in every situation, so treat a reinstall as a reset that requires your sign-in details.

If the Starbucks app will not open or closes immediately
iPhone or iPad: follow Apple’s sequence
Apple’s general instructions for an iPhone or iPad app that does not work as expected are ordered from least disruptive to most disruptive. They are platform guidance, not a guarantee specific to Starbucks.
- Force-close Starbucks. Open the app switcher, find Starbucks, and swipe its app card away. Open Starbucks again from the Home Screen or App Library.
- Restart the device. Turn the iPhone or iPad off, wait for it to finish shutting down, turn it on again, and retry the app.
- Check for a Starbucks update. Open the App Store, tap your account picture, and review available updates. Install a Starbucks update if one is listed.
- Check iOS or iPadOS. If no app update is available, install any available operating-system update in Settings. The exact update label can vary by system version.
- Delete and redownload Starbucks only if it still fails. Remove the app, download it again from the App Store, and sign in. Because deleting an app can remove data stored in it, do not take this step until you have the account credentials you will need.
If the app opens after one step, stop there and test the function that originally failed. There is no benefit in deleting and reinstalling an app that was fixed by a restart.
Android: use conservative device checks
The material available for this guide does not provide a current Starbucks- or Google-authored Android crash checklist with fixed menu paths. Avoid treating iPhone instructions as identical to Android. For a basic Android check, restart the phone and install any Starbucks update offered through Google Play. If the app still will not launch, contact Starbucks support rather than guessing at storage-clearing or account-reset steps that could remove local data.
When an update will not install
- Confirm that the phone itself can download other updates or websites. If nothing can connect, solve the device’s broader connection problem first.
- Leave enough free storage for the app update. The available Starbucks instructions do not specify a required amount, so do not rely on a made-up threshold.
- If the app-store listing shows no update, that means only that no update is currently offered to that device or account; it does not prove that the Starbucks service is unavailable.
If the app opens but stays loading or cannot connect
A loading spinner can result from a temporary service problem, a network path that is not working, or a failure limited to one Starbucks function. The following comparisons help you describe the problem without claiming that any one cause is confirmed.

Run a two-network comparison
- With the app open, try a simple action such as viewing the menu or café finder.
- Open another app or website on the same connection. If those also fail, the problem is broader than Starbucks.
- Switch from Wi‑Fi to cellular data, or from cellular data to a trusted Wi‑Fi network, and retry.
- Note the result of each test: Starbucks only on Wi‑Fi, Starbucks only on cellular, or Starbucks on both.

These tests are diagnostic comparisons, not promises of a fix. The available Starbucks material does not publish a Starbucks-specific network checklist or a live outage status. Do not assume that changing DNS, disabling security features, using a VPN, or resetting a router will solve the app; none of those actions is established here as a Starbucks remedy.
If the loading screen persists across networks
Close and reopen the app once more after switching networks, then retry later. If the same failure continues on both Wi‑Fi and cellular while other services work, document the time and symptom and escalate to Starbucks through the support route for your market. Avoid repeatedly submitting an order while the app is uncertain about its state; first verify whether an order confirmation or receipt already exists so you do not risk placing duplicates.
If login, password reset, balance, Stars, or checkout is the problem

- Start the password-reset flow from the Starbucks sign-in screen.
- Use the email address registered to the account. Starbucks UK says the reset link is sent to that address.
- Open the message promptly: the UK guidance says the link remains valid for 30 minutes.
- If the link does not open correctly, try an alternative browser.
If no message arrives, check that you entered the registered address and inspect the mailbox’s spam or filtered folders. If the account still cannot be recovered, use the UK Starbucks support route rather than creating a second account that could fragment your balance or Stars history.

UK balance and Stars refresh
Starbucks UK says to allow a few seconds for the balance to refresh. If it still does not update, sign out of the app, sign back in, and check again. This guidance concerns the UK service; it does not establish how quickly balances refresh in another country or guarantee that a delayed display means funds or Stars were lost.
UK payment and checkout requirements
- Select a store before attempting checkout.
- Choose a payment method that the checkout screen shows as available.
- Check that a payment card has not expired.
- If the app returns to loading after those checks, capture the error wording and contact Starbucks UK support rather than repeatedly tapping the payment button.
Payment, Mobile Order and Pay, delivery, and other mobile features can vary by market or location. A missing feature may therefore reflect local availability rather than a broken installation.
What to do about orders and delivery
Mobile Order and Pay
First verify that the café you selected supports the feature and that the store is available in the app. Store-level availability can change, and the presence of Mobile Order and Pay in one location does not establish availability everywhere. If checkout fails, use the account and payment checks for your country before trying again.

US in-app delivery technical problems
For a technical issue while ordering through US in-app delivery, Starbucks lists 1-800-782-7282 for its in-app delivery customer service team. This number is for the US delivery channel, not a universal Starbucks support number and not a substitute for local support outside the United States.

A charge or order that appears uncertain
- Look for an in-app order confirmation, email receipt, or other confirmation before submitting another order.
- Note the store, approximate time, items, and payment method.
- Contact the support channel for the country and feature involved if the order status and payment status disagree.
The available guidance does not establish a universal refund timeline or a single process for every market, so do not apply US delivery directions to another country.

United States: general help
For general US questions or concerns, Starbucks directs customers to its Customer Service site, which provides FAQs, phone assistance, and live chat. Use that route for persistent launch, loading, login, balance, payment, or ordering problems that the basic checks do not resolve.
Outside the United States
Use the Starbucks support page for the country where your account and order are registered. Do not assume that the US phone number, US account instructions, or US feature availability applies elsewhere. The UK password, balance, Stars, payment, and checkout steps above should remain labeled as UK guidance.

Prepare a useful support report
- Country and, when relevant, the café or delivery market
- iPhone/iPad or Android, plus the operating-system version if known
- Whether the app fails to open, closes, stays loading, or rejects login
- Whether other apps and websites work
- Whether the behavior changes between Wi‑Fi and cellular data
- The time of the failure and any exact error text
- Whether you already restarted, updated, or reinstalled the app
Never send a support representative your password or a full payment-card number. Share only the account and order details the official support channel requests.

Actions that are not established fixes
Be cautious with advice that presents a technical trick as certain. The available Starbucks and platform guidance does not establish that a VPN, DNS change, router reset, disabling phone security, clearing every app permission, buying a new phone, or installing a connectivity accessory will fix this problem. Those actions can create new account or security issues and should not replace the ordered checks above.
Likewise, an app that works on one network does not prove that Starbucks is down, and an app that fails on both networks does not prove that your account is permanently damaged. Record the comparison and give it to support.
After the app starts working again
- Open the app and confirm that you are signed in to the intended account.
- Check the balance or Stars display if that was part of the original symptom.
- Verify the selected café, payment method, and order details before submitting an order.
- For delivery, confirm that the order shows a completed confirmation rather than leaving the app immediately after payment.
If the same symptom returns, use the recorded platform, network, time, and error details when contacting the relevant Starbucks support team. That information is more useful than repeating an unverified fix.
