If the next objective in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Rescue Mission is missing, the quest usually has not registered the previous interaction, item check, companion setting, crafting action, or delivery. Open the active quest tracker, read the complete remaining instruction, and verify each requirement in order. Rescue Mission is a strictly sequenced Oogie Boogie event quest: the next step does not appear until the current state is recorded.
The quest is the fourth entry in a six-week event sequence. It was recorded as unlocking on October 14, 2026, after The Ghost in the Portrait and a mailbox message. Because this is limited-time content, the event schedule on your account must also be active.
First, confirm that Rescue Mission should be available
Check the event release and prerequisite
Rescue Mission unlocks after you complete The Ghost in the Portrait and receive the related message in your mailbox. Dreamlight Valley Wiki lists it as the fourth quest in a six-week Oogie Boogie sequence, with an October 14, 2026 unlock date. If that date has not arrived in your event schedule, or if the prerequisite quest or mailbox message is incomplete, no objective marker will appear.

- Open the in-game mailbox and claim or read the message that starts Rescue Mission.
- Check that the current Oogie Boogie event is running on your account; limited-time content can disappear when the event window ends.
- Select Rescue Mission in the quest menu so its instructions are shown on the screen.

A missing map marker does not always mean the quest is broken. The tracker may still be waiting for an interaction, a delivery, an item quantity, or an equipment state. Expand the active quest entry and read the entire remaining objective before leaving the area.

Complete every Rescue Mission objective in order
The quest walkthroughs from Destructoid and Dreamlight Valley Wiki describe the following sequence. If the game does not advance, compare your tracker against the first step in this list that has not registered.
Phase 1: investigate the Mirror Lair
- Visit Oogie Boogie. Enter the Mirror Lair and talk to Oogie Boogie.
- Inspect five strange decorations. Find and interact with all five decorations that look unusual. The walkthrough describes these as fake green furniture items. Interacting with four is not enough; the fifth interaction must register before the confrontation appears.
- Confront Oogie Boogie. Speak to him about the Ghosties in the glowing decor.
If the tracker still says to investigate the decor, return to the lair and inspect each suspicious object again. Use the tracker’s wording rather than relying on memory of which objects you already touched.

Phase 2: involve Merlin and Zero
- Talk to Merlin. Complete the required conversation rather than simply approaching him.
- Equip Zero as your active companion. Open companion selection and make Zero the active companion. Merely speaking to Zero does not satisfy this objective.
- Distract Oogie Boogie. With Zero equipped, talk to Oogie Boogie again.
- Pick up Zero’s paper or diary. Collect the paper or diary that Zero drops in the lair. The pickup must be recorded before the fishing objective appears.
Phase 3: fish and gather the requested materials
- Fish in the lava pond. Use the Royal Fishing Rod in the lava pond until you have both one Lava Core and one Skeleton Fish. These are separate required catches; obtaining only one does not complete the objective.
- Ask Goofy for a fragrant, perfectly tended flower. The walkthrough identifies the requested flower as a Dandelion. Follow the tracker’s exact item name if your edition uses a different description.
- Gather 10 Dream Shards. The quantity is ten, not merely one shard or an unspecified collection.
Phase 4: craft and deliver the sprays
- Craft two Extra-Strength Bug Sprays. At a crafting station, select the Oogie Boogie quest recipe and make two sprays. Keep both in your inventory until the deliveries are complete.
- Give one spray to Merlin. Deliver the first crafted spray and wait for the tracker to update.
- Give the other spray to Scrooge McDuck. The two deliveries are separate objective checks. After both register, confront Oogie Boogie with Merlin and Scrooge to finish Rescue Mission.
Use this checklist when the next objective is absent
If the quest appears stuck at an interaction
- Open the active quest tracker and identify the exact sentence still shown.
- Return to the named character or location and complete the interaction again, rather than only standing nearby.
- For the five decorations, count five successful interactions. A visual change alone is not proof that the quest state registered.
- For the diary or paper, confirm that you actually picked up the dropped item in the Mirror Lair.
If the tracker expects an item
Open your inventory and verify each required item and quantity. The important checks are one Lava Core, one Skeleton Fish, the requested fragrant flower (identified as a Dandelion in the walkthrough), 10 Dream Shards, and two Extra-Strength Bug Sprays. If an item was spent, discarded, or delivered to the wrong character, obtain the missing requirement again where the game permits it.

Go to companion selection and set Zero as the active companion. Talking to Zero, having Zero nearby, or completing an earlier conversation does not replace the equipment requirement. After Zero is active, return to the next Oogie Boogie interaction and check whether the tracker advances.

If crafting or delivery will not register
Craft exactly two sprays from the Oogie Boogie quest recipe. Do not assume that opening the recipe or crafting one spray is sufficient. Keep both sprays in your inventory until one has been handed to Merlin and the other to Scrooge McDuck. If one delivery did not count, check the tracker and speak to that character again with the remaining spray present.

What to do if every requirement is complete
Restart the game once
Fully close Disney Dreamlight Valley and start it again. A restart has been reported anecdotally as a workaround for another Oogie Boogie progression soft-lock, but that report is not a confirmed fix for Rescue Mission. Treat it as a low-risk troubleshooting step, not a guarantee.

Recheck the tracker after loading
After the restart, select Rescue Mission again and read the objective from the beginning. Confirm that the game still has the two sprays, the required fish and flower, and the correct companion state. If a delivery or pickup has reverted, repeat only that unregistered action.

If the event is active, the prerequisite is complete, every objective and quantity is recorded, and a restart does not restore progression, submit an in-game Gameloft help or bug report. Include information that lets support reproduce the state:

- Your platform and game version, if displayed.
- The quest name: Rescue Mission.
- The exact objective text currently shown, including whether the tracker is blank.
- Which of the five decorations, catches, deliveries, or companion steps were completed.
- A screenshot or video showing the tracker, inventory, and the relevant location when possible.
No developer-confirmed Rescue Mission fix is established for a permanently missing objective. Avoid deleting quest items or abandoning the event while waiting for support unless an official instruction specifically tells you to do so.
