If the Good Lock volume slider is missing, frozen, or moves without changing sound, start with Good Lock > Sound Assistant > Customize Volume Panel > Custom > Expanded Panel. Turn on App Volume, update Good Lock and Sound Assistant, clear Sound Assistant’s cache, restart the Galaxy phone, and check which audio stream and output are selected. These steps resolve most configuration, update, and temporary-state failures without resetting the phone.
What a non-responsive Good Lock slider usually means
Sound Assistant is a Good Lock Labs module for Galaxy phones. It adds a customizable volume panel, separate application-volume controls, fine volume adjustment in up to 150 steps, media-versus-ringtone volume-button control, and audio-output switching. The Galaxy Store listing records One UI 8 and One UI 9 support notes and identifies version 8.5.00.2 dated May 22, 2026.
A problem with one of those controls does not automatically indicate a failed physical volume key. The standard Samsung volume panel can still work while Sound Assistant’s expanded panel is disabled, stale after an update, aimed at another stream, or controlling a different output such as Bluetooth. Diagnose the symptom before changing unrelated sound settings.

| What you see | Most useful first check | What it suggests |
|---|---|---|
| No individual app sliders appear | Open Sound Assistant and verify Customize Volume Panel, Custom, Expanded Panel, and App Volume. | The expanded panel or app-volume control is disabled. |
| The panel opens but a slider stays at an old value | Update Good Lock and Sound Assistant, then clear Sound Assistant’s cache and restart. | The module may have stale state or an incompatibility after a phone or One UI update. |
| A slider moves but the sound level does not change | Check whether the slider is for media, ringtone, or call audio and verify the active output. | The control may be changing a different stream or endpoint than the one you are listening to. |
| The regular volume panel also fails | Check system sound blockers and restart before concentrating on Sound Assistant. | The issue may be at the Galaxy system level rather than in the Good Lock module. |
| The fault began immediately after One UI updated | Update both Good Lock and Sound Assistant before deeper troubleshooting. | The installed module may need a matching update. |
1. Restore the expanded panel and app sliders
This is the direct fix when the individual application sliders have disappeared.

- Open Good Lock on the Galaxy phone.
- Open Sound Assistant.
- Turn on Customize Volume Panel.
- Choose Custom.
- Select Expanded Panel.
- Make sure App Volume is enabled.
- Press a physical volume key.
- Tap the arrow or three-dot control on the volume panel to open the expanded view.
Test with an app that is actively playing media. A slider for an app that is not producing audio may appear unchanged because there is no active stream for it to adjust. If the expanded view returns, no cache reset is necessary.
If the panel is still compact
Reopen Sound Assistant and confirm that the changes were saved. Then press the volume key again rather than relying on a panel that was already on screen before the setting changed. The compact standard panel and Sound Assistant’s expanded panel are different interfaces; seeing the former does not prove that Sound Assistant is enabled.
2. Update Good Lock and Sound Assistant
Sound Assistant is a versioned module, so Good Lock and the module can require separate updates. This matters particularly when the problem starts after a Galaxy phone or One UI update. A Samsung Community solved report describes the individual controls returning immediately after the user updated Sound Assistant through Good Lock.
- Open Good Lock and check the installed modules for an available Sound Assistant update.
- Install the Sound Assistant update if one is offered.
- Check for a Good Lock update in the official store used on your phone and install it if available.
- Restart the phone after both modules finish updating.
- Open Sound Assistant again and test the expanded panel.
The listing’s version 8.5.00.2 date, May 22, 2026, identifies a specific release rather than a promise that every region or Galaxy model receives the same build at the same time. If your phone shows a different version, use the update offered for your device and region. Do not downgrade a module merely because its version number differs from another phone.

3. Clear Sound Assistant’s cache and restart
A temporary module or system state can leave the panel visible while its values stop updating. Clearing the cache removes temporary files without deleting your personal Good Lock configuration as a data reset would.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Select Sound Assistant.
- Tap Storage.
- Choose Clear cache. Do not choose a full data reset unless Samsung support specifically instructs you to do so.
- Restart the Galaxy phone.
- Play audio, press a volume key, open the expanded panel, and test an app slider.
Samsung’s general Galaxy sound guidance treats temporary system errors as a possible cause of sound failures and recommends restarting the device. A restart is therefore part of the fix, not merely a preliminary formality.
4. Confirm the stream the slider is actually controlling
Sound Assistant can distinguish media, ringtone, and call-related audio. A slider can move correctly while the sound you hear remains unchanged if you are adjusting a different stream.
| Audio stream | Typical test | Why a change may seem ineffective |
|---|---|---|
| Media | Play music, video, or another continuous recording and adjust the media control. | No active media is playing, or the panel is focused on ringtone or call audio. |
| Ringtone and notifications | Use the phone’s ringtone preview or trigger a notification after changing the ringtone level. | Changing media volume does not alter ringtone loudness. |
| Call audio | During a call, adjust the call-volume control. | Call volume is a separate stream and may not respond to a media slider. |
| Per-app volume | Keep the selected app playing audio while changing its individual slider. | The app may be silent, paused, or no longer the active audio source. |
Sound Assistant also supports assigning the hardware volume buttons to media instead of ringtone. If that option is enabled, the physical buttons can appear to be “wrong” when they are operating exactly as configured. Test the on-screen control while a known media stream is playing.

5. Check the selected audio output
Before concluding that a slider does nothing, identify where the audio is going. Sound Assistant supports application output switching, and Galaxy audio can be routed to the phone speaker, Bluetooth equipment, or another connected endpoint.
- Stop and restart the media in the affected app.
- Check whether a Bluetooth device or other external output is connected.
- Temporarily select the phone speaker as the output, if that choice is available on your panel.
- Adjust the app or media slider again while audio is playing.
- If the speaker responds but the external device does not, reconnect the external device and test its own volume control.
An output change can make the phone’s speaker appear unaffected while the remote device is receiving the adjustment, or the reverse. Test one output at a time so the result is unambiguous.
6. Remove system-level sound blockers
Samsung identifies several ordinary settings that can mute or suppress Galaxy audio independently of Sound Assistant. Review them when the standard panel also fails, when every app is silent, or when a slider changes but no output can be heard.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Mute all sounds: verify that the accessibility sound-mute setting is off.
- Do Not Disturb: check whether its sound restrictions are preventing notifications or other expected audio.
- Volume settings: confirm that the relevant stream is not set to zero and that a hardware volume-button assignment is not pointing to another stream.
- Temporary system errors: restart the phone after checking the settings.
These checks are deliberately separate from the Sound Assistant configuration. A correctly configured expanded panel cannot make a muted system produce sound.

Use a controlled test to separate app, module, and phone problems
After applying the changes, run the same short test rather than switching between several apps and outputs.
- Disconnect or turn off Bluetooth temporarily, if practical.
- Open one app that can play continuous media.
- Start playback and leave it running.
- Press a physical volume key and open Expanded Panel.
- Move the overall media slider and listen for a change.
- Move the selected app’s slider and listen again.
- Repeat with a second media app.
If the overall media control works but one app slider does not, the problem is likely limited to that app’s active audio stream. If neither control works on the phone speaker after an update, continue with module updates, cache clearing, and Samsung Members escalation.

A One UI update can change system interfaces or the compatibility expectations of Good Lock modules. When the volume panel worked before the update and stopped afterward, use this order:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Confirm that Customize Volume Panel, Custom, Expanded Panel, and App Volume are still enabled.
- Install any available Good Lock and Sound Assistant updates.
- Clear Sound Assistant’s cache.
- Restart the phone.
- Check stream and output selection with active media playing.
Do not assume that a changed panel design means the hardware volume key has failed. One UI changes can reset, hide, or alter module controls while leaving the standard volume function intact.

Standard Samsung panel versus Sound Assistant expanded panel
| Capability | Standard Samsung volume panel | Sound Assistant expanded panel |
|---|---|---|
| Basic volume adjustment | Yes | Yes, with customization |
| Separate application sliders | Not the Sound Assistant per-app view | Available when App Volume is enabled |
| Fine-grained adjustment | Standard system increments | Up to 150 steps according to the Good Lock Labs listing |
| Media-versus-ringtone button behavior | Uses the phone’s standard setting | Can assign volume buttons to media instead of ringtone |
| Application output switching | Limited to standard system controls | Supported by Sound Assistant |
This distinction explains why the ordinary panel can remain usable while the Good Lock controls are absent or stale. Test both interfaces: the standard panel establishes whether the phone can change volume at all, while the expanded panel tests Sound Assistant-specific features.
When the slider moves but volume does not change
- Make sure media is actively playing in the app whose slider you are moving.
- Verify that you are changing media rather than ringtone or call audio.
- Check the selected output and temporarily test the phone speaker.
- Check whether the app has its own internal volume control or mute state.
- Close and reopen the affected app after restarting the phone.
- Test a second app to determine whether the symptom is app-specific.
If a second app responds and the first does not, record that distinction for support. It is more useful than reporting only that “the volume slider is broken.”
When the expanded panel or sliders remain missing
Recheck the exact configuration path rather than only turning Sound Assistant on or off: Good Lock > Sound Assistant > Customize Volume Panel > Custom > Expanded Panel, with App Volume enabled. Then confirm that both modules are current, clear the cache, restart, and test with active media. A missing panel after those steps is no longer a simple display toggle problem.

- The Good Lock version.
- The Sound Assistant version.
- Whether the problem began immediately after a phone or One UI update.

Include screenshots or a screen recording if Samsung Members permits them for your report.
Quick decision guide
| Result after testing | Next action |
|---|---|
| App sliders return after enabling Expanded Panel and App Volume | Keep the configuration; no further repair is needed. |
| Updating Sound Assistant restores the controls | Leave Good Lock and Sound Assistant updated and note the versions for future troubleshooting. |
| Cache clearing and restart restore normal operation | Continue using the module; the failure was temporary module or system state. |
| Only Bluetooth or another external output fails | Investigate that output and its connection separately from Sound Assistant. |
| Only one app fails | Test the app’s own audio settings and report the app-specific behavior if it persists. |
| Standard panel and Sound Assistant panel both fail | Check system sound blockers, restart, and send a detailed Samsung Members report if the issue remains. |
Bottom line
Restore the Good Lock volume controls in this order: enable the Sound Assistant expanded panel and App Volume; update Good Lock and Sound Assistant; clear Sound Assistant’s cache and restart; verify the media, ringtone, or call stream and the active output; then check mute and Do Not Disturb settings. If the standard panel works but the expanded controls still do not, provide Samsung Members with your Galaxy model, One UI build, module versions, update history, output, and exact reproduction steps.
