If The Crew Motorfest will not download, install, update, or connect on Nintendo Switch 2, use the least destructive fix that matches the symptom: close the software and resume the download, test the console connection, restart the system, update the console and game, scan for corrupted data, and only then delete and redownload. Treat microSD Express formatting as a last resort because it erases the card.
Installation and online access are separate issues. Ubisoft says an online connection is required to play Motorfest, so a completed installation does not by itself solve sign-in, service, or connectivity failures.
First identify which problem you have
The correct fix depends on where the process stops. A download that is paused needs a different response from software that installs but freezes, and neither is automatically evidence of a Motorfest-specific defect. The official guidance available for Switch 2 is general Nintendo downloaded-software troubleshooting; Ubisoft provides separate Motorfest connectivity guidance.

Important release and installation facts
Ubisoft announced The Crew Motorfest for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026, in both a physical retail edition and a digital Nintendo eShop edition. The physical release is a Game-Key Card, which means the card authorizes the software but still requires a download to install. A physical purchase therefore cannot be used as a completely download-free installation method.

Ubisoft’s release information also says a Ubisoft Account is required. The Game-Key Card and account details were presented in official regional release information, including a Polish-region listing; check the current product page for the region in which your console and copy were purchased because retail descriptions can differ by market.
Ubisoft states that an online connection is required to play the game. That requirement applies after installation as well as during account or service checks. If the software is installed but cannot sign in or reach online services, continue with the connectivity path rather than repeatedly reinstalling.
Before changing anything, check the edition and destination
Confirm whether you are working with the eShop version or the physical Game-Key Card version. The physical card is not a complete offline installer, so seeing a download after inserting it is expected. Also note whether the software is being placed in system memory or on a microSD Express card. That distinction determines whether the storage branch is relevant and gives support a useful detail if the problem continues.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo not remove the card, delete software, or format storage merely because the progress indicator takes time to change. First determine whether another application is running, whether the console is online, and whether the queue is actually paused. These checks preserve the installed data and make it easier to identify the failing stage.
Download of Software or Update Data is Stuck or Will Not Progress
Nintendo notes that some downloads pause while another game or application is being played. Its wording is: Downloads will pause for some games and software that is currently being played.
A paused queue is therefore not, by itself, proof of a failed download or an outage.
Close the software that is using the console
- Save your progress in the running game or application.
- Press the HOME button to return to the HOME Menu.
- Highlight the running software’s icon.
- Press X and confirm that you want to close it.
- Leave the console connected to the internet while the Motorfest download resumes.
Starting or continuing another title can pause the queue again, so allow the download to run without launching software that causes the pause. If more than one download is queued, let the Motorfest item remain at the front rather than repeatedly switching between software.
Resume the queue from the user page
- Open the user page from the HOME Menu.
- Choose User Settings.
- Select Update Download Progress.
- Wait for the system to refresh the download status before opening another game.
If the status still does not change, restart the Switch 2. After it powers back on, let it reconnect to the network and check the download before starting other software. A restart is a reversible step: it does not remove the title or its save data.

When the download is slow rather than paused
A slow transfer usually calls for network diagnosis, not a reinstall. Run the console’s internet connection test and check whether the connection is stable. If the test shows a problem, address the network condition first: reduce competing traffic on the same connection, move the console closer to the wireless access point when appropriate, or use the more reliable connection option available in your setup. The official Switch 2 guidance does not publish a Motorfest-specific download speed, download-size estimate, failure rate, or server diagnosis, so do not infer any of those from a slowly changing progress bar.
If the connection test succeeds but progress remains slow, leave the console connected and allow the queue to continue after closing other software. A slow percentage change is different from a queue that reports an error or repeatedly returns to the same point. Record the exact message, if any, before moving to deletion or storage troubleshooting.
General Problems with Downloaded Software for Nintendo Switch 2 (Freezing, Not Responding, etc.)
Use this sequence when Motorfest has installed or nearly installed but will not update, freezes at launch, or becomes unresponsive. Perform the reversible checks before removing software.
1. Restart the console
- Save and close any software that still responds.
- Open the Power Menu and choose the restart option.
- After the restart, reconnect to the internet and try Motorfest again.
A restart clears a temporary system state without deleting the game or its save data. If the game was updating, check the download status after the system reconnects rather than immediately launching another title.

2. Check for a Switch 2 system update
Open System Settings and use the system-update option to confirm that the console software is current. Install an available update, restart if the console requests it, and then test Motorfest again. Keeping the platform current is part of Nintendo’s general downloaded-software procedure.
3. Check for a Motorfest software update
- Connect the console to the internet.
- On the HOME Menu, highlight The Crew Motorfest without starting it.
- Press + or –.
- Choose Software Update.
- Select Via the Internet.
- Allow the update to finish before launching the game.
If the update cannot begin, return to the paused-download steps and confirm that no other software is holding the queue. A game update that fails before launch belongs to the download/update path; a game that launches and then cannot reach online services belongs to the connectivity path.
4. Scan for corrupted data
- Open System Settings.
- Select Data Management.
- Choose Manage Software.
- Select The Crew Motorfest.
- Choose Scan for Corrupted Data.
- Follow the on-screen result and retry the game after the scan completes.
This check is preferable to an immediate deletion because it can identify damaged downloaded data while preserving the installed title for the next troubleshooting decision. Keep the console connected while the scan and any follow-up download complete.

Delete and redownload only after the checks fail
If restarting, updating, and scanning do not resolve the failure, Nintendo’s general guidance is to delete the affected software and redownload it. This is a later step because it requires the full download again, which is especially relevant for a Game-Key Card release that already requires downloaded installation.
- Make sure you know which Nintendo Account and Ubisoft Account are associated with the purchase and game setup.
- Open System Settings and go to Data Management.
- Use the software-management controls to delete The Crew Motorfest, following the confirmation prompts.
- Restart the console if requested.
- Redownload the digital entitlement or insert the physical Game-Key Card and begin the required download.
- Keep the console online and avoid launching another title until installation finishes.
Deleting software is not the same as deleting save data. Do not select a save-data deletion command when the objective is only to remove a damaged installation. The redownload also does not bypass the online requirement for playing Motorfest.
After the redownload, test in stages: first confirm that the title reaches its start screen, then confirm that account authentication and online services work. This separates a repaired local installation from a remaining network or service problem.
If a microSD Express card may be involved
Nintendo lists a separate storage path for Switch 2 downloaded-software problems involving a microSD Express card. The card is a conditional factor, not a proven Motorfest requirement and not a guaranteed fix. Use this branch only when the failure correlates with the card or when the title is being installed there.
Try system memory first
Remove the microSD Express card and download the game to the console’s system memory. This is the least destructive card-related option because it does not erase the card. Nintendo’s support information says save data is stored in system memory, so do not format a card on the assumption that doing so is necessary to preserve saves.
Try another compatible microSD Express card
If the game works in system memory but fails when the original card is used, testing another compatible microSD Express card can help isolate the storage medium. A successful result would indicate that the original card or its data is relevant; it would not establish a Motorfest-wide software defect. If the same failure occurs in system memory and on another card, storage is less likely to be the only cause.
Format the card only as a last resort
- Back up screenshots and videos from the card before formatting.
- Open the Switch 2 storage settings and choose the microSD Express card formatting command.
- Read the warning carefully and confirm only when you accept that the card’s data will be erased.
- After formatting, reinstall or redownload the software and test it again.
Formatting destroys the card’s stored data. It should not be the first response to a paused queue, a routine update failure, or a one-time freeze. If you cannot back up the card’s screenshots or videos, stop at the system-memory or replacement-card test.

When installation succeeds but online services fail
Motorfest can be installed correctly and still fail at sign-in or service connection because Ubisoft requires an online connection to play. Check that the Switch 2 itself reports an active internet connection, then follow Ubisoft’s guidance titled Troubleshooting connectivity issues in The Crew Motorfest. That path addresses online-service conditions rather than damaged installation files.
Separate local, account, and service symptoms
- Local network symptom: the console’s connection test fails or other online functions are unavailable. Resolve the Switch 2 or home-network connection first.
- Account symptom: the game reaches an account prompt but cannot complete authentication. Confirm the required Ubisoft Account and its sign-in details.
- Motorfest service symptom: the console is online but Motorfest cannot reach its services. Use Ubisoft’s connectivity troubleshooting and check for service-specific guidance.
- Persistent failure: if the connectivity steps do not help, contact Ubisoft support with the exact message, when it appears, and whether other Switch 2 online functions work.
Do not keep deleting and reinstalling a title that installs normally but fails only during online authentication. Reinstallation cannot repair an unavailable service or an account connection by itself.
A safe escalation order
Use this order to minimize lost time and avoid erasing data unnecessarily.
- Close any running software that may pause downloads.
- Open the user page and select User Settings > Update Download Progress.
- Test the Switch 2 internet connection if progress is slow or absent.
- Restart the console and allow it to reconnect before launching another title.
- Check for a current Switch 2 system update.
- Check Motorfest with + or – > Software Update > Via the Internet.
- Run System Settings > Data Management > Manage Software > The Crew Motorfest > Scan for Corrupted Data.
- If the title still fails, delete the software and redownload it.
- If a microSD Express card is implicated, try system memory, then another card; format only after backing up and accepting data loss.
- If installation is successful but play cannot connect, use Ubisoft’s Motorfest connectivity guidance and escalate to Ubisoft support.
What the available evidence does—and does not—show
The official material supports a practical Switch 2 troubleshooting sequence, but it does not confirm a widespread Motorfest-specific Switch 2 download bug, a universal error-code remedy, an outage, or a particular download speed. Nintendo’s articles cover downloaded software on Switch 2 generally. Ubisoft’s connectivity article is specific to Motorfest but does not publish a Switch 2-only installation fix.
That distinction matters when interpreting the result. If closing software, refreshing progress, updating, scanning, or reinstalling solves the problem, the steps repaired the local download or software state; they do not prove that every Motorfest copy or every Switch 2 console has the same fault. Conversely, if the game installs but online play remains unavailable, treat that as a separate connection, account, or service investigation.
Quick checklist before contacting support
- Record whether the symptom is paused download, slow download, update failure, freeze, corruption warning, storage-card failure, or online-service failure.
- Note whether the copy is the physical Game-Key Card edition or a digital eShop edition.
- Write down the exact on-screen message and the point at which it appears.
- Confirm whether the console is connected to the internet and whether other online functions work.
- Record whether Motorfest is installed in system memory or on a microSD Express card.
- List the steps already completed, including the corruption scan and whether deletion/redownload was attempted.
- For a card issue, state whether you tested system memory or another card and whether the original card was formatted.
- For an online issue, confirm that the required Ubisoft Account is being used.
This information lets Nintendo or Ubisoft distinguish a platform download problem from storage damage or an online-service issue without repeating destructive steps unnecessarily.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the physical Switch 2 copy still need a download?
Ubisoft describes the physical edition as a Game-Key Card. It authorizes the software but requires a download to install, so a cartridge-like purchase is not a completely download-free installation.

What should I do when the Motorfest download is paused?
Save and close the running software with HOME, highlight its icon, press X, then open the user page and choose User Settings > Update Download Progress. Restart the console if the queue still does not move.
Should I delete Motorfest immediately if it will not update?
No. Restart the Switch 2, install current system software, check Motorfest with + or – > Software Update > Via the Internet, and scan for corrupted data first. Delete and redownload only if those checks fail.
Can a microSD Express card cause the installation problem?
It can be a conditional storage factor, but it is not established as a Motorfest-specific cause. Try system memory first, then another compatible card. Formatting is a last resort because it erases the card; back up screenshots and videos beforehand.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Why does Motorfest still fail after it installs?
Ubisoft says an online connection is required to play. Check the Switch 2 connection, follow Ubisoft’s Motorfest connectivity troubleshooting, and verify the required Ubisoft Account. Reinstalling will not fix an unavailable service or account-authentication problem by itself.
What information should I give Nintendo or Ubisoft support?
Provide the exact message, when it appears, whether the copy is a Game-Key Card or eShop version, whether the console is online, where the software is stored, and which restart, update, corruption-scan, card, or redownload steps you tried.
The Bottom Line
Start with Nintendo’s reversible steps: close running software, refresh download progress, test the connection, restart, update, and scan for corruption. Delete and redownload only afterward; treat microSD Express formatting as a final, data-erasing option. Once installation works, troubleshoot Motorfest’s required online connection separately through Ubisoft.
