Fix an AI-generated UI mockup from the inside out: replace placeholder copy, correct each text layer’s sizing and wrapping, then repair spacing and resizing rules on its parent frame. Reuse established components and styles where possible, and test the screen with realistic copy at its intended dimensions. This sequence addresses the cause of many visual defects instead of hiding them by shrinking type or nudging elements one at a time.
Why fixing the text layer comes first
Short placeholder labels can conceal problems. Replace them with the copy you expect to use, or a representative longer version, before adjusting the design. Then inspect the text box’s width, height, and resizing behavior: text that looks too large or crowded may be constrained by the box rather than needing a smaller font.
In Figma, a text layer created with a single click defaults to Auto width and grows horizontally. A layer created by click-drag defaults to Fixed size and retains its dimensions as its content changes. Fixed size can be useful when you want constrained width and wrapping, but a box that is too short or configured poorly can clip text or make it collide with nearby elements. In the Layout section, adjust the resizing behavior and check how the text wraps. Figma’s text properties guide and text resizing documentation describe these controls.

For a label intended to remain on one line, first check its available width and the surrounding layout. If the type hierarchy itself needs to change, use the font-size control in Typography. Figma cautions that scaling text changes both its font size and bounds, potentially introducing fractional sizes or subpixel positions; changing the font size directly is the more controlled adjustment. Repair spacing and alignment in the parent frame
Once text behaves properly, select its parent frame and inspect the rules that arrange its children. In Figma Auto Layout, the key properties are direction, padding, gap, alignment, and resizing behavior. Padding is the space between the frame’s edge and its contents; gap is the space between children. Set consistent values for similar components instead of moving every child independently. Fixed-size text layers do not resize to accommodate changed copy. In an Auto Layout frame, that can cause overlap when the content changes. Review the text layer’s behavior alongside the parent frame’s resizing rules rather than treating either in isolation. Figma’s Auto Layout guide

A decorative element that should sit over the layout rather than take part in its normal flow is a different case. Figma’s “Ignore auto layout” option excludes a child from that flow, so constraints can govern its position relative to the parent. Use the design system before asking AI to improvise
If the file has a team library or established design system, use its actual components, typography, and spacing conventions. A reusable component gives a design agent concrete patterns for spacing and type to reuse rather than leaving it to guess. Figma’s guidance also notes that actual components and properties communicate a system more effectively than frames intended only for people to read. Figma’s AI design-system guidance

For an AI-assisted refinement, select only the affected frame or layers and state both the change and what must stay intact. For example: “Set the card’s internal vertical gap to the existing spacing token, let the description wrap within the card width, and preserve the heading style, button order, and colors.” Then inspect the resulting layers on canvas. Figma describes agent edits as editable, but recommends specifying what to refine and what to leave alone. Figma AI UI Refiner
Figma’s AI tools include tasks such as replacing placeholder or duplicate text and rewriting or shortening copy. Test the mockup with realistic dimensions and text
Review the screen at the frame dimensions it is meant to support and with the actual text lengths it needs to accommodate. Check headings, labels, buttons, and body copy after resizing; confirm they remain legible and do not overlap. Where a prototype or implementation is available, compare it with the design canvas: Figma notes that browser and operating-system text rendering can differ from its own, so small visual differences may appear in implementation. When this workflow applies—and when it does not
This repair sequence assumes you can edit structured layers. If the generator produced only a flattened screenshot, you cannot adjust text boxes or parent-frame rules directly; you will need an editable version or must recreate the relevant elements in a design editor. The controls described above are Figma examples, not universal labels or features shared by every AI generator and editor.
The same diagnostic order still helps with other editors: establish realistic content, check text constraints, then inspect the rules governing parent layout. The specific controls will depend on the tool. No comparative evidence establishes that one AI design editor produces more accurate mockups than another.
