If Supermarket Simulator crashes, stutters, or will not load a save on PS5, work from least risky to most involved: update the game and PS5, confirm the installation is complete and on internal storage, restart and test a new game, reinstall the title, then use Safe Mode cache clearing and database rebuilding. Back up saved data before deleting anything or using destructive recovery. If only this game fails, contact its publisher; if several games fail, contact PlayStation Support or Repairs.
First, identify which failure you have
The right fix depends on whether the problem is a launch failure, a crash during play, visible stutter, or a save that no longer loads. Write down exactly when the fault occurs: at startup, while loading a store, after a particular action, when opening an existing save, or across every game on the console. This distinction determines whether you should investigate the installation, a particular save, or the PS5 itself.
Crashes and freezes
A crash closes the game or returns you to the PS5 home screen. A freeze leaves the image or controls unresponsive. Both justify the update, restart, storage, reinstall, and Safe Mode sequence below.
Lag and stutter
Lag can mean delayed controls, uneven animation, or pauses while the game loads. The available guidance does not establish a specific Supermarket Simulator graphics option or developer-confirmed performance fix, so do not assume that changing an in-game setting will solve it. First rule out an incomplete, outdated, or poorly located installation and test whether the problem remains after a clean reinstall.

Save failures
A save problem includes a missing slot, an error while loading, or a crash that occurs only when you select one existing game. If a new game works but the old one does not, the old save becomes the leading suspect; do not delete it before making a backup.
Use the low-risk fixes first
1. Check the game and PS5 for updates
- Highlight Supermarket Simulator on the PS5 home screen.
- Press the Options button on the controller.
- Select Check for Update and install anything offered.
- Check that PS5 system software is current, then restart the console after updates finish.
- Verify that the game has finished downloading and installing before launching it. A partially installed title can fail even when its icon is visible.
Updating is the first step in PlayStation’s launch and crash guidance because it is reversible and does not alter your saved progress.
2. Move the game to internal storage
If Supermarket Simulator is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the PS5’s internal storage and test again. PlayStation specifically lists moving a game from USB extended storage to internal storage when launch problems occur. Let the transfer complete before starting the game; interrupting it leaves you testing an incomplete installation.

3. Restart the console
Use the normal PS5 power menu to restart rather than repeatedly closing and reopening the game. After the console comes back, launch Supermarket Simulator once and note whether the same action still reproduces the fault. A restart is a diagnostic checkpoint: if the issue disappears, record that it was temporary; if it returns, continue with save isolation instead of repeatedly rebooting.
Test whether an existing save is the trigger
PlayStation recommends starting a new game without the existing save to check for corruption. This test separates a damaged save from a broader installation or console problem.
- Start Supermarket Simulator and choose the option to begin a new game rather than loading the affected slot.
- Play long enough to reach the area or action that normally causes the crash or loading failure.
- Close and reopen the game, then test the affected save only after the new-game test is complete.
| Test result | Most useful interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| New game and existing save both fail | The fault is more likely to involve the installation, system software, storage, or a title-wide issue. | Continue to reinstall and, if needed, Safe Mode steps. |
| New game works; one existing save fails | The affected save is a likely corruption point. | Preserve a backup and contact the publisher for save-specific guidance before deleting anything. |
| Supermarket Simulator works; other games also fail | The symptom is not isolated to this title. | Escalate to PlayStation Support or Repairs. |
Back up saved data before deleting a save, deleting the game, resetting the console, or taking any other destructive action. A backup gives you a recovery point; it does not guarantee that a corrupted save can be repaired.

Reinstall Supermarket Simulator cleanly
If the game is fully installed and updated but still crashes or freezes, PlayStation recommends deleting and reinstalling it. Reinstallation replaces the game files; it is different from deleting saved data, but you should still back up saves first and make sure you know which storage location you are removing.
- Close Supermarket Simulator.
- Use the game’s Options menu on the PS5 home screen and choose the delete option.
- Confirm that you are deleting the game installation, not the saved-data entry.
- Download the game again and allow the installation to finish completely.
- Launch it before restoring or modifying an affected save, and test a new game first.
If the fresh installation works with a new game but fails when an old save is loaded, the reinstall has reduced the likelihood that game files are the cause; treat the save as the remaining suspect. If the clean install fails before any save is loaded, move to Safe Mode and escalation.
Use PS5 Safe Mode only after backup
Safe Mode is a later recovery step, not the first response to ordinary stutter. PlayStation guidance lists clearing cached data and rebuilding the database for persistent launch or crash problems. The documented controller procedure requires a wired USB data cable, so keep one available; a charge-only cable may not establish the required connection.

Enter Safe Mode and clear the cache
- Turn the PS5 completely off; do not leave it in Rest Mode.
- Press and hold the console’s power button. Release it after the second beep.
- Connect the DualSense to the PS5 with the USB data cable and press the controller’s PS button.
- Select the Safe Mode option for clearing cache, then allow the console to finish and restart.
Support guidance explains that corrupted cached files can contribute to freezes, game-loading errors, or connectivity issues. Clearing the cache does not delete saved data or progress according to Rockstar Games’ PlayStation 5 support guidance, but backing up first remains prudent because later Safe Mode choices have different effects.
Rebuild the database if cache clearing does not help
- Return to Safe Mode using the same power-button and USB-controller procedure.
- Select Rebuild Database.
- Wait for the process to complete without powering off the console.
- Restart normally and test Supermarket Simulator with a new game before loading the affected save.
Database rebuilding is intended to reorganize the console’s content index; it is not a confirmed repair for a damaged Supermarket Simulator save. Do not select a reset or initialization option merely because the console is in Safe Mode. Those destructive options require a verified backup and a separate decision.

When lag appears from the first launch
- Confirm the game and PS5 are updated.
- Check that installation has finished and move the title from USB extended storage to internal storage.
- Restart the console and test a new game.
- Reinstall if the same stutter is present in a clean installation.
When lag begins only in one save
Compare the affected save with a new game. If the new game is smooth and the old one stutters or crashes, preserve the old save and report the reproducible difference to the publisher. Do not claim that deleting the save is a proven performance fix; the available guidance establishes only that a new-game test can reveal possible save corruption.
When several games stutter or crash
Stop treating this as a Supermarket Simulator-only issue. Record whether other games show the same behavior, then contact PlayStation Support or Repairs. A console-wide pattern is more useful to support than a single title’s symptom because it changes the likely fault scope.

| Action | Reversibility and data risk | Use it when | Equipment or condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check updates | Low risk; does not intentionally remove saves | The game may be outdated or incomplete | Internet connection and finished download |
| Restart PS5 | Low risk | A temporary freeze or abnormal session may be involved | None beyond normal console controls |
| Test a new game | Low risk if the old save is left untouched | One save will not load or crashes during loading | Do not overwrite or delete the affected save |
| Move from USB extended storage | Low data risk; transfer must finish | Launch or loading problems occur from an external installation | Enough free internal storage |
| Delete and reinstall the game | Installation is removed; back up saves first | Updated, complete installation still crashes or freezes | Download time and sufficient storage |
| Clear Safe Mode cache | Support guidance says saved data and progress are not deleted | Persistent freezes, loading errors, or similar faults remain | Wired USB data cable for the DualSense |
| Rebuild database | Later recovery step; back up before Safe Mode work | Cache clearing and ordinary fixes fail | Wired USB data cable and uninterrupted power |
| Reset or initialize the PS5 | Destructive; do not use without a verified backup and a clear reason | Only after direct PlayStation guidance | Support-directed recovery |

Contact the game’s publisher for an isolated fault
PlayStation’s guidance is explicit: if the error affects only one game, contact that game’s publisher to ask whether it is a known error. Tell the publisher that you tested updates, internal storage, a restart, a new game, and (if completed) a reinstall. State whether the failure is tied to one save or occurs before any save loads. Do not describe an unconfirmed workaround as a fix.

Prepare a concise incident report
- Exact error code and the full on-screen wording.
- Whether the game is on internal storage or USB extended storage.
- PS5 system-software and game-update status.
- The action that reproduces the problem and how often it occurs.
- Whether a new game works and whether one existing save is affected.
- Which recovery steps you completed, in order.
- A screenshot or short video, when possible, showing the failure.
This information lets support distinguish a title-specific defect, a potentially corrupted save, and a console-wide problem without asking you to repeat every basic test.
Quick Recap
What not to assume
- Do not assume every crash is caused by a bad save; test a new game first.
- Do not assume a missing or unresponsive save can be repaired by reinstalling the game. Reinstallation replaces game files, not the contents of a damaged save.
- Do not claim that a particular graphics option, patch number, or unofficial save-editing method is confirmed. No current developer-maintained PS5 issue page establishing those fixes was identified.
- Do not use PS5 initialization or other destructive Safe Mode options as a routine lag fix.
- Do not interrupt a transfer, installation, cache operation, or database rebuild.
A practical decision path
- Update: Check for a game update from the home-screen Options menu and bring PS5 system software current.
- Verify installation: Wait for completion and move the game from USB extended storage to internal storage if necessary.
- Restart and isolate: Restart the PS5, then test a new game without touching the old save.
- Reinstall: Back up saved data, delete the game installation, download it again, and test before restoring an affected save.
- Recover: If the problem persists, clear the Safe Mode cache and then rebuild the database, using a wired USB data cable.
- Escalate: Report an isolated Supermarket Simulator fault to its publisher; report failures affecting several games to PlayStation Support or Repairs.
