There is no published, device-specific fix that guarantees an end to stuttering, low frame rates, or controller problems in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom. The safest approach is to update the mobile app, restart it and the device, reduce heat and background load, identify whether the symptom is a crash or a frame-rate drop, and test controller connectivity separately. These steps are diagnostic checks rather than confirmed fixes for every phone or tablet.
Make sure you are troubleshooting the mobile game
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom is Nitro Games Oyj’s mobile adaptation of Boltgun. Nitro Games announced the mobile release for major app stores on September 23, 2026. It is a different product from the earlier PC and console game Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun.
The Google Play listing describes a try-before-you-buy model: the first three levels can be played before a one-time purchase unlocks the full game. The Apple listing identifies an iOS app with mobile-optimized controls. Troubleshooting below applies to the Android and iOS mobile release, not to Windows, Steam, or console installations of the other game.

What is known about performance and bugs
The Google Play listing showed an update dated September 24, 2026, described only as “Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.” That confirms that a stability update was posted, but it does not identify a frame-rate fix, a controller fix, a crash fix, or a supported-device change.

Store reviews provide useful symptom reports but are not controlled tests. A Google Play reviewer reported crashes after restarting and mentioned clearing RAM. Other reviews discuss controller use and limits of the touch interface. An Apple App Store review said the game worked better after an update but reported missing controller button images in gameplay prompts and the mapping menu. Those are individual, device-specific observations; they do not establish a universal cause or solution.
No official frame-rate benchmark, device requirement list, controller compatibility matrix, or measured result for a particular graphics setting has been published in the available material. A store rating or review count is not a performance measurement: the Google Play snapshot showed 2.11K reviews and a 3.4-star rating, figures that can change and cannot tell you whether a particular phone will run smoothly.
Collect a useful baseline before changing anything
Write down the current state first. A repeatable baseline makes it possible to tell whether a change helped or merely coincided with a different symptom.
- Phone or tablet make and exact model.
- Android or iOS version.
- Boltgun Boom version shown by the relevant app store.
- Whether the app is downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
- Whether the issue is a crash, a freeze, visible stutter, consistently low frame rate, input delay, or missing controller prompts.
- Approximate time played before the symptom appears.
- Level, room, enemy encounter, menu, or action associated with the symptom.
- Controller model, wired or Bluetooth connection, and whether other apps recognize it.
Use the same level and the same controller state when you compare results. Do not change several variables at once; otherwise you will not know which change affected the behavior.
Follow this troubleshooting sequence
1. Update the app, then perform a clean restart
- Open Google Play on Android or the Apple App Store on iOS.
- Find Boltgun Boom and install any available update.
- After installation, fully close the game rather than leaving it suspended in the app switcher.
- Restart the phone or tablet.
- Launch the game again and reproduce the same action or location used in your baseline.
The published September 24 note says only “Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.” Install the update, but do not assume that note promises a particular FPS, crash, or controller correction.

2. Separate a crash, a freeze, and a frame-rate problem
These symptoms require different evidence. A crash means the app exits to the home screen or disappears. A freeze means the image or controls stop responding. A frame-rate problem leaves the game running but makes movement or camera motion visibly uneven. Input delay can feel like low FPS even when the image is smooth.

A Google Play crash report is evidence that one player experienced crashes, not proof of a universal root cause. Keeping the categories separate prevents you from applying a graphics-related change to an input or launch problem.

Close demanding apps, downloads, screen recording, and other processes that you do not need for the test. Then let a warm phone or tablet return to a normal temperature before launching the game again. Compare a short session on the cooled device with the same session while it is warm.
Record whether the symptom is present at launch, appears only after a long session, or follows a particular location or action. These observations can indicate whether heat or background activity is involved, but the available official material does not diagnose either as the cause of Boltgun Boom problems.
Avoid treating “clear RAM” as a guaranteed solution. One reviewer mentioned doing so, but that individual action does not establish that memory pressure caused the crash or that repeatedly force-closing system processes is safe or useful on every device.

4. Reproduce the issue with a controlled comparison
Use one change per test:
- Run the game after the update and device restart with the controller disconnected.
- Repeat the same level section or menu action.
- Connect the controller and relaunch the game.
- Repeat the same action again.
- Note whether the symptom changes immediately, only after time has passed, or not at all.
This before-and-after comparison is more informative than changing several settings and relying on memory. It also helps distinguish a controller path problem from a rendering or stability problem.

When the game is choppy from the start
Confirm that the app is current, restart the device, close competing apps, and test after the device has cooled. Reproduce the same camera movement or combat encounter. If the result is unchanged, record the model, operating-system version, game build, and location in the game rather than assuming a generic “booster” or memory cleaner will solve it.
No published Boltgun Boom material establishes a universal graphics preset, frame-rate cap, minimum chipset, or device class that resolves low FPS. Do not promise that a particular setting, accessory, or phone upgrade will fix the issue without a device-specific test.
When stutter appears after playing for a while
End the session, allow the device to cool, close other demanding apps, and repeat the same section. Note the approximate elapsed time at which motion becomes uneven. If the problem reliably follows a long session but not a short, cooled test, include that pattern in a support report. It is an observation to investigate, not confirmation of thermal throttling.
When only one level or action stutters
Record the level name or location, what is on screen, and the action that precedes the hitch. Re-enter the same area after a restart. If possible, compare a nearby area with fewer effects. This does not prove that a particular effect is defective, but it gives the developer a reproducible trigger instead of a general claim that the whole game is slow.

How to investigate crashes and freezes
Crash immediately after launch
- Install any store update and restart the device.
- Launch Boltgun Boom with the controller disconnected.
- Note whether the app reaches the title screen, a level, or exits before either.
- Repeat once after a full device restart.
If the crash persists, avoid repeatedly restarting without recording what happens. The launch stage, device model, OS version, and game build are the details support needs to compare your case with other reports.
Crash after restarting the game
A Google Play reviewer specifically described crashes after restarting. Test whether “restart” means returning from the operating system’s app switcher, using an in-game restart command, or relaunching after the app was force-closed. Those are different sequences. Write down the exact sequence and whether the controller was connected during it.
Freeze during play
Check whether sound continues and whether you can leave the app normally. If the operating system itself is unresponsive, document that separately from an app-only freeze. After the device recovers, repeat the same section once with background apps closed and once with the controller disconnected. Do not claim that either test is a confirmed fix; they isolate possible variables.

Controller is not detected
- Disconnect the controller from the phone or tablet.
- Confirm that the operating system shows it as connected, paired, or available, according to the connection method.
- Test the controller in another app that you already know supports it.
- Reconnect it and launch Boltgun Boom after the connection is established.
- Open the game’s control or mapping options and test one binding at a time.
The available listings and reviews do not provide a supported-controller list or a universal mapping workaround. An operating system that sees a controller does not, by itself, prove that Boltgun Boom supports every function of that device.
Some buttons work and others do not
Inspect the mapping menu and test each action separately: movement, camera, fire, jump, pause, and any other displayed binding. Record the exact action that fails and whether touch controls still work. This separates a missing binding from a complete connection failure.

Prompts show the wrong symbols or no controller button images
An Apple App Store reviewer reported missing controller button images in gameplay prompts and mapping screens, even while saying the game worked better after an update. Treat that as a reported interface limitation, not a condition that affects every device.
Until the interface is clearer, inspect the mapping screen carefully and press one known controller input at a time to determine which action it triggers. Keep a written mapping for the session if prompts are ambiguous. Do not infer that a missing picture means the controller is unsupported; verify each binding and report the exact screen where the image is absent.
Controller appears to cause instability
Repeat the same action with the controller disconnected and then connected. If crashes or freezes occur only in the connected test, include the controller model and connection method in your report. If both tests behave the same, the controller may not be related to the stability symptom.

A generic Bluetooth mobile game controller is relevant only to the input problem. Store reviews mention controller use, but the available sources do not verify a specific model, universal compatibility, or any performance benefit. Confirm compatibility with your phone or tablet and Boltgun Boom before buying.
A controller cannot be presented as a remedy for stuttering or low FPS. It changes the input method; it does not provide evidence of a faster renderer, a higher frame rate, or fewer crashes.
What not to do
- Do not treat the vague “Minor bug fixes and stability improvements” note as proof that a named FPS or controller bug was fixed.
- Do not use a PC game’s Windows or Steam troubleshooting steps—such as file verification, administrator launch, or Steam Input overrides—for this mobile release.
- Do not infer compatibility from another game recognizing the same controller.
- Do not describe an individual store review as a benchmark or representative test.
- Do not change multiple variables at once if you need to identify a cause.
- Do not promise that clearing RAM, cooling the device, or purchasing new hardware will solve the problem.

Include:
- Device make and exact model.
- Android or iOS version.
- Boltgun Boom version and store platform.
- Controller model, connection method, and whether it works in another app.
- Whether the symptom is a crash, freeze, stutter, low FPS, input delay, or missing prompt image.
- Level, menu, or action that triggers it.
- Approximate time played before it occurs.
- Whether the device was warm, whether other apps were closed, and whether restarting changed the result.
- The troubleshooting steps you already tried and what happened after each one.
A concise, reproducible report is more actionable than a general statement that the game is slow or broken. Because this is a newly released mobile game, store listings, update notes, device support, and reviews may change quickly; check the current listing and Nitro Games support information when submitting a report.
