If Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy stutters, closes unexpectedly, or displays missing, scrambled, or blurry textures on Nintendo Switch 2, start with Nintendo’s software-repair sequence: update the console and game, restart, scan for corrupted data, and—if necessary—delete and redownload the game to the console’s system memory with the microSD Express card removed. Reseat a physical game card before rebuilding its install. If several games show the same fault, Nintendo’s guidance points to console service; if only this title fails after a clean system-memory redownload, contact Nintendo support and the game’s publisher or licensee.
Start by identifying which problem you have
“Stuttering,” “crashing,” and “missing textures” can have different causes, so note the exact behavior before changing anything. Does the frame rate hitch briefly while moving through a scene, or does the software stop and display “There was a problem, and the software needed to close”? Are textures absent or distorted only after loading a particular area, or do other games also show corrupted graphics?

Keep the distinction between a physical card and a digital installation in mind. The recovery path is different, and a clean system-memory redownload is the most useful comparison for a digital copy.

1. Install every available update
Update the Switch 2 system
Open System Settings from the HOME Menu, scroll to System, and choose System Update. Let the console complete the update and restart if it asks. Do this before deleting the game: Nintendo’s lag, crash, and visual-fault procedures all put current system software first.

Update the game
Highlight Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on the HOME Menu, press the + or − button, choose Software Update, and select Via the Internet. Allow the download and installation to finish before launching the game again. If you use a physical card, leave it inserted while checking for the update.
An update check can report that no newer version is available. That result does not prove the game is free of bugs; it only means the console found no currently available software update for your copy and region.
2. Restart correctly, including an unresponsive console
Normal restart
- Hold the console’s POWER button for at least three seconds.
- Select Power Options.
- Choose Restart and wait for the HOME Menu to return.
Launch the game only after the restart has completed. A restart clears the current software session without removing the game or its saved data.

If the console will not respond to the screen or buttons, hold POWER for 12 seconds to force it to shut down, as documented by Nintendo. Wait a moment, press POWER once to turn it on, and then perform the update and data checks above. Do not repeatedly force power-off a working console; use the normal restart whenever the menus respond.

3. Scan the installation for corrupted data
Nintendo provides a built-in check for damaged downloaded software. From the HOME Menu, open System Settings, choose Data Management, select Manage Software, choose Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and select Scan for Corrupted Data. Let the scan finish completely.
- No corrupted data found: Continue to the storage-location test if the symptom remains.
- Corrupted data found: Follow the console’s prompt to redownload the affected software, then test the game before restoring any optional content.
A scan checks the installed data; it does not establish that the game itself has a title-specific patch or that the console hardware is healthy. Use the one-game-versus-many-games comparison later in this guide to decide what to do next.
4. Rebuild a digital installation in system memory
For persistent stuttering, crashes, or damaged visual assets, Nintendo’s stated recovery path is to delete the software and redownload it directly to the Switch 2’s internal system memory. During this operation, remove the microSD Express card so the console cannot reuse a damaged or inconsistent copy on that card.

- Open System Settings > Data Management > Manage Software.
- Select Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and choose the option to delete the software. Confirm only after checking that you know which copy you are removing.
- Power the console off completely.
- Remove the microSD Express card while the console is powered off.
- Turn the Switch 2 on and connect it to the internet.
- Redownload the game from the HOME Menu or Nintendo eShop so the destination is system memory, not the removed card.
- Install any update offered for the game, launch it, and reproduce the area or action that previously caused the problem.
Test this clean install before inserting the microSD Express card again. If the fault disappears in system memory, the earlier storage path is implicated; if it remains, compare another game and continue to the support decision below. Nintendo’s procedures do not identify a particular microSD Express model, cooling accessory, or other add-on as a remedy.

5. Reseat a physical game card
If you own a card copy, shut the console down before touching the card. Remove it, check that it is fully out of the slot, and reinsert it firmly until it is seated. Turn the console on, run the game’s Software Update > Via the Internet check, and test again.
Do not treat a card reseat as a replacement for the corrupted-data check. A physical card can still rely on installed update or downloadable data, so scan the software when the symptom continues. If the same card fails while other games work, record that detail for Nintendo support and the game’s publisher or licensee.
6. Use another game to separate a title problem from a console problem
When only Guardians of the Galaxy is affected
After updating, restarting, scanning, and (for a download) testing a system-memory redownload, launch at least one other game that normally runs correctly. If the other title is stable and its graphics are normal, the evidence points toward this game, its card, or its title-specific data rather than a general Switch 2 failure. Contact Nintendo support and the game’s publisher or licensee with the exact symptom, edition (card or download), software version shown by the console, and the steps that already failed.
When several games are affected
Run the same comparison with more than one game. If multiple titles stutter, crash, or show corrupted visuals after their own updates and restarts, do not keep deleting and reinstalling individual games indefinitely. Nintendo states that when an issue persists with all games, the console needs repair. Start a Nintendo support or repair request and describe whether the games were installed in system memory, launched from cards, or stored on the microSD Express card.

7. Symptom-specific checks
Stuttering, lag, or irregular frame pacing
- Confirm the Switch 2 system update and the game’s internet update were completed.
- Use a normal restart; use the 12-second forced shutdown only when the console is unresponsive.
- Scan the installation for corrupted data.
- If the game is downloaded, perform the system-memory redownload with the microSD Express card removed.
- If it is a card copy, power off and reseat the card, then update and test again.
- Compare another game before deciding whether the problem is console-wide.
A brief hitch by itself does not establish a measurable frame-rate defect. No official source for this title supplies a prevalence statistic, benchmark, or guaranteed performance target, so avoid judging the result against an unverified number.
Crashes with the software-closed message
For the message “There was a problem, and the software needed to close,” follow Nintendo’s crash order: restart, update the console, update the affected software, scan for corrupted data, and redownload to system memory with the microSD Express card removed if the crash persists. Record whether the crash happens at launch, during a particular chapter, after fast travel, or at apparently random times; that pattern helps support staff distinguish a reproducible title fault from a storage failure.
Missing, scrambled, distorted, or blurry textures
Update and restart first. Check whether the visual defect appears only in this game, and verify whether you are using a card or a download. For a downloaded copy that continues to show the problem, use the clean system-memory redownload procedure. For a card copy, reseat the card while powered off and check for the software update. If visual corruption appears in several games, treat it as a console-level issue and pursue service rather than buying an unverified graphics or cooling accessory.

9. Prepare a useful support report
Give support enough detail to reproduce the fault instead of reporting only “the game lags.” Include:
- Whether your copy is a physical card or a digital download.
