If Law & Order buffers, shows a spinning circle or black screen, refuses to start, or reports a provider or location problem, use this order: confirm the episode is available, stop competing network traffic, then restart Peacock and your device. If the message concerns a TV provider or location, treat it as an entitlement problem rather than ordinary playback trouble.
The steps below apply primarily to Peacock, whose official listing currently carries Law & Order. Catalogues, supported devices and regional rights can change, so verify the specific episode in your account before changing hardware or assuming the service is broken.
Start with the fastest fix
- Open the official listing and select the exact episode. Peacock’s Law & Order page currently reports nine seasons, but that is a catalogue statement, not a guarantee that every season is available in every country or will remain available. If the episode is not listed for your account, no network reset will make it play.
- Stop large downloads, uploads and unnecessary streams. Pause cloud backups, game downloads, video calls and other high-bandwidth activity on the same connection. Peacock specifically identifies simultaneous device use and large transfers as causes of delayed video delivery.
- Close and relaunch Peacock. Exit the app completely, close other background apps, then open Peacock again.
- Restart the viewing device. If it is powered from a wall outlet, shut it down or unplug it for 20 seconds before starting it again, following Peacock’s device guidance.
- Check whether the problem is limited to one title. Try another Peacock programme. This is a practical diagnostic comparison: if several titles fail, investigate the connection or device; if only Law & Order fails, check availability and the title’s account or location rights.
Do not buy new hardware as a first response to buffering, a stale provider link or a possible service outage. Hardware matters when the current model cannot run a supported Peacock app; compatibility is covered below.
Is Law & Order available on Peacock?
Peacock’s current show page lists Law & Order and displays nine seasons. Availability is still conditional on your location, account and the rights for the particular episode. NBC’s support guidance puts the availability check first: Make sure you know if the content is supposed to be available or not.
That sentence comes from the NBC Help Center’s Basic Troubleshooting article.

How to check before troubleshooting
- Search for the series inside the Peacock app rather than relying on an old bookmark.
- Open the season selector and confirm that the episode number and title you want are displayed.
- Check whether the episode is marked as locked, live or otherwise requiring a linked television provider.
- If a friend in another country can see a title that you cannot, do not assume your app is defective; regional rights can differ.
If the desired episode is absent, contact Peacock or the service that holds the listing for your region. Reinstalling the app cannot restore a programme that is not licensed to your account or location.
Why does Law & Order keep buffering on Peacock?
Buffering means the player is waiting for more video data. Peacock explains that playback is not delivered to your device in one continuous stream; available network capacity and the service’s delivery path affect how quickly the next segment arrives. Its buffering guidance recommends reducing competing traffic and gives service-specific connection figures.
1. Remove competition for bandwidth
- Pause large downloads and uploads, including operating-system updates and cloud synchronisation.
- Stop other household streams temporarily and disconnect idle devices that are consuming data.
- End high-bandwidth activities such as game updates, video meetings or security-camera uploads.
- Start the episode again after the network is quieter.
These actions address the most common household cause without changing your subscription or device. If playback improves immediately, reintroduce other activities one at a time to find the combination that exceeds the connection’s available capacity.
2. Compare your speed with Peacock’s recommendations
Run a connection speed test on the same device and network used for viewing. Peacock’s undated support guidance recommends at least 3.0 Mbps for enjoying its content and at least 8 Mbps for certain high-quality live events and ultra-high-definition premium content. These are Peacock’s thresholds, not universal streaming standards or guarantees of smooth playback.

| Peacock figure | How to interpret it | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| 3.0 Mbps | Peacock’s recommended minimum for its content. | It does not guarantee stable playback, because congestion, Wi-Fi quality, latency and temporary service conditions can still interrupt video. |
| 8 Mbps | Peacock’s recommendation for certain premium UHD and live content. | It is not a requirement for every episode of Law & Order, nor a guarantee that a faster line will eliminate all faults. |
Measure more than once if the result changes sharply. A connection can show adequate peak speed while suffering brief drops that empty the player’s buffer.
3. Use comparison tests to narrow the fault
Try another title in Peacock and, if practical, another streaming service. If several services fail on the same network, the home connection, router or internet provider becomes a more plausible area to investigate. If other services work but Peacock does not, continue with Peacock’s app and device steps. This is a diagnostic inference, not a promise from Peacock about how faults are isolated.
4. Test Wi-Fi against another connection
Where your data plan and account allow it, briefly compare the device on Wi-Fi and cellular, or on a different trusted Wi-Fi network. A failure on only one connection points toward that network’s congestion, filtering or authentication. Avoid using cellular as a permanent solution if it incurs charges or has a data cap; use it only to identify the failing link.
Why won’t Law & Order play on Peacock?
A title that never starts, repeatedly spins, returns a playback error or stops at a black frame needs a clean app and device session. Follow Peacock’s sequence rather than jumping randomly between settings.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
- Close Peacock and background apps. On a phone, tablet, computer or television platform, force-close the app if the operating system provides that option. Reopen it and try the episode.
- Restart the device. Power it down completely. If you unplug it, leave it disconnected for 20 seconds before powering it back on, as Peacock specifies in its device troubleshooting instructions.
- Check the device connection. Confirm that the device reports an active network and that another app can reach the internet. Reconnect to Wi-Fi if necessary.
- Clear Peacock’s cache and data. Use the operating system’s app settings where those controls exist. Clearing data may sign you out and remove local preferences, so have your Peacock sign-in details available.
- Update the app and device software. Install pending Peacock updates and the latest operating-system update supported by the device.
- Uninstall and reinstall Peacock. Use this only after the earlier steps. Reinstallation replaces damaged local files but does not change catalogue rights, provider eligibility or network conditions.
If the same error returns after a reinstall, record the exact wording before contacting support. “Playback error,” a sign-in failure and a location message require different remedies.
Why is Peacock showing a black screen or spinning circle?
A black picture or endless spinner can result from a stuck app session, an outdated app, a damaged cache or an unsupported software environment. Work through the restart, cache, update and reinstall steps above, then make two comparisons:
- App versus browser: If the app fails but a supported desktop browser plays the episode, the app installation or device software is the likely area to examine. If both fail, check availability, account status and network conditions.
- One title versus all titles: If only this episode fails, confirm that the episode is still offered and not restricted. If every Peacock title fails, treat it as a broader app, account, device or connection issue.
On a computer, NBC’s playback guidance recommends clearing browser data and trying another supported browser or device. Its broader troubleshooting page also advises removing ad blockers or other software that can interfere with video playback. Disable such extensions temporarily for a test, then restore them if they are not the cause.

Why does Peacock say my TV provider or location is unavailable?
Provider and location messages are access checks, not ordinary buffering errors. NBC says locked or live content requires an eligible listed television provider that carries the relevant channel and works with the viewer’s location and network. A provider link saved months ago can also become stale.

- Super-fast startup: Start streaming channels like Disney+, Prime Video, HBO Max, Apple TV+, Netflix, Sling, and Hulu in a snap—just turn on your TV
- Long-range Wi-Fi: Enjoy fast, smooth TV streaming in any room with a strong Wi-Fi connection, now up to 2x faster
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku Streaming Stick with the Roku remote
- Voice search & control: Quickly search, play entertainment, and control your streaming device with the voice remote
When a provider is required
- Confirm that the episode is marked as provider-locked or live.
- Check that your television provider is on Peacock or NBC’s eligible list and includes the channel for your location.
- Sign out of the provider connection and sign in again if the app appears to be retaining an old authorisation.
- Reopen Peacock and test the episode after the account link refreshes.
Ask the provider about entitlement when the provider account is valid but the channel is not included in your plan. Peacock cannot grant a channel right that your television subscription does not contain.
When location is the message
Location eligibility can depend on the network through which you connect. NBC advises viewers who see an unavailable-location message while using cellular to try Wi-Fi. If Wi-Fi also fails, check whether a VPN, proxy, corporate filter or unusual network configuration is masking your normal location; remove or bypass those services only if you control them and doing so complies with their terms.
Do not infer that changing networks will permanently unlock content. The correct result depends on the rights for your actual location and account.

- Clear the browser’s site data or cached files for Peacock, then sign in again.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers, privacy extensions or security software that may interfere with the player.
- Try another supported browser. NBC specifically names Chrome and Firefox in its playback guidance.
- If the second browser works, update or reset the first browser rather than changing your internet plan.
If no browser plays but other services do, retain the error text and browser version for Peacock support. If every service fails, investigate the computer’s network, security software or connection.
Check whether your device is supported
Peacock’s compatibility list is platform- and version-specific and can change. Consult the current supported devices and platforms page before deciding that a device is defective or buying replacement hardware.
One concrete example: Peacock lists Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices running Fire OS 6 or later, while specifically excluding the Fire Max 11 Tablet. The page also sets minimum versions for browsers and mobile operating systems. An app may install on a model that no longer meets playback requirements, so check the exact model and software version, not just the product family.

When another device is justified
- Your current model is absent from Peacock’s supported list.
- The operating system cannot be updated to the listed minimum.
- The app fails after a clean reinstall while the same account and network play normally on a supported device.
A compatible streaming device is an alternative platform, not a cure for ordinary network congestion, a provider-authorisation failure or a service-side outage. Verify the exact model’s support status before purchasing.
Use this diagnostic matrix
| What you observe | First checks | Most useful next step |
|---|---|---|
| Only one episode is missing | Search the official listing; check season and location rights. | Contact Peacock if the listing and your account disagree. |
| Every Peacock title buffers | Pause other traffic; test speed; compare Wi-Fi with another connection. | Investigate the home network or contact Peacock if other services work. |
| All streaming apps fail | Check the device’s network and router; test another device. | Contact your internet provider or network administrator. |
| Peacock app fails but browser works | Restart, clear app data, update and reinstall. | Use the supported browser temporarily and report the app/device details. |
| Browser fails but app works | Clear browser data; disable interfering extensions; try Chrome or Firefox. | Reset or update the affected browser. |
| Provider or channel error | Confirm provider eligibility and channel entitlement. | Relink the provider; ask the provider about missing channel rights. |
| Location unavailable | Check Wi-Fi versus cellular and any VPN or proxy. | Use an eligible network and contact NBC or Peacock if your location is misidentified. |
| Black screen or endless spinner | Close apps, restart for 20 seconds, clear data and update. | Reinstall Peacock and verify device support. |
What to collect before contacting support
Support can work faster when the report separates a title problem from a device or account problem. Write down:
- The exact episode, season and time at which playback fails.
- The complete error message, including any code.
- The device brand, model and operating-system version.
- The Peacock app version, or browser name and version.
- Whether another Peacock title plays.
- Whether other streaming services work on the same network.
- Whether the result changes between Wi-Fi and cellular.
- Whether the content is open, provider-locked or live.
Contact Peacock for Peacock playback, app and catalogue issues. Contact the television provider for channel entitlement or provider-authentication failures. NBC’s help pages explain the relevant provider, browser, cache and location checks, but they cannot identify an unseen device setup or confirm a live outage from the information available here.
Quick Recap
Prevent the problem from returning
- Keep Peacock and the device operating system within the versions listed on Peacock’s support page.
- Leave enough network capacity for video instead of scheduling large downloads during viewing.
- Sign out and back in when a provider changes its password, plan or channel package.
- Record the episode and error details before clearing data or reinstalling, because those actions can remove useful local state.
- Recheck the official catalogue when a season or episode disappears; availability can change without any change to your hardware.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
