If STAR WARS Zero Company will not launch, crashes, shows a black screen, or stutters, start with the free fixes in this order: restart the computer or console, check EA and platform service status, install every game update, verify that a PC meets the minimum requirements, repair the installation, update graphics drivers, and close background applications. Only after those checks should you change game graphics settings or investigate a hardware shortfall.
This guide covers the EA app, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is single-player, but EA or platform services can still affect downloading, updating, installation, and account-related functions.
Use this order first
Work through the following sequence rather than changing several things at once. After each step, launch the game and test the same scene or action that originally failed.

- Exit the game completely. Restart the PC or console, not just the game application.
- Check service status. Look at EA Help’s service-status information and the status page for your platform. A service incident can interrupt downloads, updates, sign-in, or account features even though the campaign itself is single-player.
- Install pending updates. Check the EA app, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, or Xbox for a game update and install any operating-system or console update offered.
- Check PC compatibility. Compare the computer with EA’s published minimum requirements before spending time on graphics tweaks.
- Repair or verify the installation. Missing or corrupted files can cause crashes, freezes, launch failures, and unexpected errors.
- Update the graphics driver and close background applications. EA lists old drivers and competing background software among possible causes of launch, black-screen, crash, and performance problems.
- Reduce rendering load. Lower resolution or graphics quality on a near-minimum PC. Apply the Intel Arc and Nvidia setting changes only when the conditions for those recommendations match your hardware.
If the issue survives the complete sequence, record the information listed in EA Help before opening a support case. Do not repeatedly reinstall or buy hardware without first identifying which requirement or step is actually failing.

Why won’t STAR WARS Zero Company launch?
Restart and rule out a service incident
A restart clears a temporary lock, unfinished update, or driver state that can prevent the game from opening. Close the launcher first, restart the system, and try again before making configuration changes. If the launcher itself cannot download or authenticate, check EA and the relevant platform’s service status. Services can affect account functions, updates, downloads, and installation even when the game does not require multiplayer.
Install the latest game update
Open the library or games list in the client where you installed the game and look for an update or a pending download. EA identifies pending updates as one reason a game may fail to launch. Allow the update to finish, restart the launcher if it requests that, and then test the game again. On consoles, open the game’s options menu and use the system’s check-for-update command if an update is not offered automatically.
Check whether the PC is below the minimum
A computer below the minimum specification can fail before the title reaches its main menu. A computer that only just meets the minimum can launch successfully yet require low settings and a lower resolution. EA explicitly warns that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee that every graphics setting will run smoothly.

Check your Windows details with DxDiag
EA’s requirements guidance uses the built-in DirectX Diagnostic Tool to confirm the basic configuration:
- Press
Windows+Rto open Run. - Enter
dxdiagand press Enter. - On the System tab, note Windows, processor, installed memory, and DirectX information.
- Open the Display tab and record the graphics-card name and driver details.
- Open File Explorer, select This PC, and check the free space on the drive containing the game.
Compare each item with the table. If one component is below the minimum, software fixes may still improve behavior, but the machine remains outside EA’s supported floor. If all items meet the minimum, continue with file repair, drivers, and load reduction rather than assuming the hardware is the cause.

Repair the installed files
Corrupted or missing files can produce a crash, freeze, launch failure, or an unexpected error. Use the repair function in the client that owns the installation.
- EA app: Open Library, find STAR WARS Zero Company, select the three-dot menu, choose Repair, and wait for the process to finish. Restart the PC and launch the game again.
- Steam: Open the game’s properties from your Library and use Steam’s built-in command to verify the integrity of the installed files. Let every replacement download complete before starting the game.
- Epic Games Store: Open the game’s menu in your Library and use the client’s Verify command. Wait for the scan and any replacement files to finish.
Client labels can change between versions, but the goal is the same: scan the existing installation, replace files that do not match the current build, and then restart the launcher. Verification does not replace a pending game update, so check for updates again afterward.

A black screen at startup is commonly approached as a launch or graphics-driver problem. First restart the system, install the current game update, and repair the files. Then update the graphics driver supplied for your GPU and close background applications before trying again. These steps address the causes EA specifically identifies for launch failures and black screens.
If the game opens but the display remains black
- Wait briefly after launching in case an update or shader preparation is still completing, then close the game normally if it responds.
- Restart the PC or console and try again with no unnecessary applications running.
- On PC, install the latest driver for the graphics card and reboot when the installer requests it.
- Repair or verify the game files through the installation client.
- If the PC is near the minimum, lower the output resolution and graphics preset before launching the problem scene again.
Do not treat a black screen as proof that the game needs a new graphics card. Confirm the driver, files, update state, and published requirements first. If the failure is accompanied by an exact error message, preserve that text for support rather than paraphrasing it.
What can I do if STAR WARS Zero Company runs slowly, stutters, or has a low frame rate on PC?
Start with the low-risk changes
- Close browsers, recording tools, overlays, and other applications that are not needed for the game. EA identifies background applications as a possible source of crashes and slow or laggy play.
- Update the graphics driver, then restart Windows.
- Use a lower graphics preset and reduce resolution if the computer is close to the minimum specification.
- Test one change at a time so you can identify which setting affects the stutter.
The developer’s Steam FAQ says the title is more CPU-bound than it had validated earlier in development. That means lowering only a GPU-heavy option may not remove a frame-rate dip caused by processor workload. A consistent low frame rate and short, repeated hitches can have different causes, so compare behavior after each change rather than relying on one universal preset.

Use the recommended upscaling path for a 1440p/60 FPS goal
The developer’s recommended target is 60 FPS at 1440p, and its FAQ says that target is best achieved with the recommended TSR setting or with DLSS or FSR upscaling. This is guidance for the recommended target, not a guarantee for every processor, graphics card, driver, or scene. If native 1440p produces uneven performance, enable the recommended TSR mode or a supported vendor upscaler before lowering every option indiscriminately.

EA’s targeted advice for Intel Arc users is to enable Resizable BAR to improve FPS. This is conditional guidance for Arc hardware, not a setting that every player needs to change. Consult the motherboard firmware documentation for the exact menu names, enable the feature only if the platform supports it, and then retest the same game scene.
Nvidia GTX 10-series and RTX 20-series: try the geometry setting
For qualifying Nvidia GTX 10-series or RTX 20-series cards that meet the game’s minimum specification, EA suggests turning off Environment Geometry Detail to improve frame rate. Apply this only to those card families and only after confirming that the card meets the minimum requirement. It is not a universal recommendation for newer or slower hardware, and it does not replace driver updates or file verification.
Distinguish a performance limit from a crash
A low but stable frame rate points toward workload or settings. A sudden application exit, freeze, or return to the desktop is a crash and should be handled with updates, driver checks, file repair, and background-app isolation first. If lowering settings changes neither the frame rate nor the crash, stop changing graphics options and collect the failure details for EA.
How to fix crashes, freezes, and unexpected errors
Complete the common software checks
For a crash during startup, loading, or play, perform the restart, service-status, update, file-repair, driver, and background-application checks in that order. EA lists missing or corrupted files, outdated graphics drivers, pending updates, and systems below minimum requirements as possible causes. These checks apply whether the crash happens immediately or only after playing for a while.

Record the exact trigger
Write down whether the crash occurs before the main menu, during a specific mission, after changing a setting, or at a repeatable point. Preserve the exact error text and note the date and time the problem began. A screenshot or short video showing the error, black screen, or freeze can help support staff distinguish a display problem from a failed launch.
Avoid unsupported “fix” utilities
EA’s recommended sequence is based on free system, launcher, and graphics settings work. There is no evidence here that a generic crash-fix utility is required. Do not install an unrelated cleaner or optimizer in place of verifying the game, updating the driver, or checking the requirements.
Download, update, and installation problems
Because services can affect downloads, updates, and account functions, check EA and platform status before repeatedly cancelling an installation. Restart the client and system, confirm that sufficient storage is available, and make sure the game is fully updated. On PC, the published requirement is 50 GB of available space; a nearly full drive can also leave too little room for temporary update files.
After an interrupted or suspicious download, use the launcher’s repair or verify command. The scan can replace files that are missing or corrupted without requiring a blind reinstall. If the client reports an exact error, keep the wording and the time it appeared for your support request.

EA app on PC
The EA app is the only platform in this guide with a documented in-client path from EA: Library, select the game’s three-dot menu, choose Repair, wait for completion, restart the PC, and launch again. Also check for pending game updates and install the current graphics driver.
Steam on PC
The Steam release is Steam native and does not require the EA app. Use Steam’s own update and file-verification controls. If Steam reports that files were reacquired, allow the process to complete and launch from Steam after restarting the client. Steam’s developer FAQ also provides the TSR, DLSS, and FSR guidance for the recommended 1440p/60 FPS target.
Epic Games Store on PC
Use the Epic Games Store library’s update and verification controls for the installation. The EA app is not required simply because the title is published by EA; use the storefront that owns your copy and follow its current verification label.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
Restart the console, check for a game update, and check the platform’s service status if downloading, updating, or account-related functions fail. If the game still crashes after the current update is installed, record the exact behavior and any error code before contacting EA. PC-specific steps such as DxDiag, graphics-driver installation, Resizable BAR, Environment Geometry Detail, and TSR/DLSS/FSR do not apply to console hardware.

Steam Deck status
EA’s Steam FAQ said the game was not Steam Deck verified at launch. Verification status can change, so check the current official Steam and EA information before treating that launch-time statement as the present status. A title’s verification label is separate from a Windows PC meeting the specifications in the table.
Check the current patch information
EA’s official updates index listed “Star Wars Zero Company 1.1 Patch Notes” dated September 9, 2026. Check the live EA news and updates page for the latest notes before assuming that a particular crash or performance issue is still unfixed. Patch notes can change the relevance of a workaround, and an old workaround should not be presented as permanent when a newer build may have addressed the behavior.
When to contact EA Support
Contact EA after restarting, checking service status, installing updates, confirming requirements, repairing files, updating drivers, closing background applications, and applying only the relevant performance settings. Include enough detail for the first reply to reproduce the problem:
- The platform: EA app, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S.
- Your EA ID or account email, plus the platform username or account ID.
- The date and time the issue began, including your time zone if relevant.
- What happened: launch failure, black screen, crash, freeze, stutter, low frame rate, download failure, or installation error.
- The exact error text or code, copied rather than retyped from memory.
- The steps already completed, including updates, file repair or verification, driver update, and graphics changes.
- A screenshot or video clip when the problem is visible.
For a PC issue, also provide the Windows, processor, memory, graphics-card, DirectX, and free-storage information you recorded with DxDiag and File Explorer. This prevents support from repeating checks you have already completed and makes it clearer whether the machine is inside EA’s published requirements.
