You can’t enable split-screen in STAR WARS: Galactic Racer: the game does not support it. A missing local multiplayer option is not a controller, console, PC, or display fault. To race with friends, use the game’s online multiplayer instead—but online play is not the same as two people racing on one screen.
Why split-screen troubleshooting won’t help
The STAR WARS: Galactic Racer FAQ states that the game does not support split-screen multiplayer. It also does not describe a local co-op mode. That means there is no second-controller setup, display adjustment, hidden local-play setting, or troubleshooting sequence that can enable two people to race together on one device.
If you are looking for a split-screen option and cannot find it, you have not necessarily missed a menu or made a mistake during setup. The feature is unsupported. Reconnecting a controller, changing which display is primary, adjusting resolution, reinstalling the game, or changing console or PC settings will not add it. Those steps might be relevant to a controller or display fault in a supported feature, but they cannot enable a mode the game does not offer.

This distinction matters when describing the issue. A missing local-play option is not the same as a bug, a failed controller connection, or a matchmaking outage. The official answer is that split-screen is not supported; report a problem only when a feature the game does offer is malfunctioning.
How to race with a friend online
The documented alternative is online multiplayer. Steam lists online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer. The game FAQ says crossplay between PC and consoles is enabled by default, but players can turn it off. If you and a friend cannot connect, first confirm that both of you can access online play and that crossplay has not been disabled when you are playing on different platforms.
The FAQ does not give a specific menu path for crossplay, so do not rely on an unverified setting name or location. Check the game’s current settings and platform information rather than following instructions for a menu that may not exist or may have changed. If both players are on the same platform, the FAQ’s crossplay detail may not be relevant to the connection attempt; online access and the selected event still matter.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBefore starting, agree on what kind of online event you want to join. Online parties and race modes have different player limits, and a mode’s capacity is not a promise that your party can start a new match by itself. The FAQ, checked October 11, 2026, describes the following limits:
| Online feature | Player limit described by the FAQ | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Online party | Up to 3 players currently | The FAQ says an increase to 6 is planned in a future update aimed at the first weeks after launch. That is a plan, not a confirmed current limit. |
| Quick Race and Multiplayer Tour | Up to 12 players | Unfilled racer slots are filled with AI racers. |
| Quick Podrace and Podracer Tour | Up to 8 players | Unfilled racer slots are filled with AI racers. |
These figures describe online play, not local play. They are the FAQ’s account as checked October 11, 2026, and could change. In particular, do not treat the planned six-player party size as already available unless a current FAQ or in-game information confirms that the update has arrived.
The distinction between party size and event capacity is useful when making plans with friends. A party can currently include up to three people, while the listed Quick Race and Multiplayer Tour capacity is larger. The FAQ says empty race slots are filled with AI, but that does not remove the separate matchmaking condition for a two-person party trying to start a new Tour or Quick Race.

If a two-player party cannot start a race
For a two-person party starting a new Tour or Quick Race, the FAQ says a third unique player outside the party must also be searching before a new match can begin. In other words, the event’s listed capacity of up to 12 racers does not mean two friends can always launch a fresh match immediately. The matchmaker needs another searching player outside the party under the condition described in the FAQ.
Try this sequence if you and one friend are waiting for a new Tour or Quick Race:
- Confirm online access. Make sure both players can use online multiplayer on their platforms. If either player lacks access, crossplay or party settings will not solve that separate requirement.
- Check platform compatibility and crossplay. For players on different platforms, confirm that crossplay is not turned off. The FAQ says it is enabled by default for PC and consoles, but it can be disabled.
- Join the online party. The FAQ describes an online party limit of up to three players at the time checked. Do not confuse that party limit with the larger capacity of a race mode.
- Search for the intended event. Choose the Tour or Quick Race you want to play. If the two-person party does not enter a new match, allow time for a third unique player outside the party to be searching.
- Wait for an event with open spaces if needed. The FAQ says matchmaking may place the party into an event with open spaces. It does not give a guaranteed wait time, so an immediate match is not assured.
Matchmaking prioritizes players in the same region and can match across regions if needed. This is a priority, not a promise that players from another region will be found at a particular time. The FAQ does not specify a wait-time estimate or a manual setting for forcing a cross-region match.
If the wait continues, separate the symptoms before trying more fixes. Is the problem that the party cannot find or enter an online event, or that you expected two controllers on one screen? The first is an online matchmaking problem worth checking against the game’s current service information and known issues. The second is the unsupported split-screen feature and cannot be fixed through matchmaking.
Check the platform’s online-play requirements
Online play may depend on the platform and the player’s subscription. The Xbox store listing, checked October 11, 2026, describes online multiplayer for two to twelve players and says online multiplayer on console requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, sold separately. Check the current Xbox listing for your region before troubleshooting a connection, because subscription names, availability, and terms can change.
The Xbox listing’s two-to-twelve-player description is a platform store listing, while the game’s FAQ separately describes current party size and the player capacities of particular modes. Read those figures in context: a platform listing’s online-player range does not mean your party can start any event with only two people, nor does it indicate that local split-screen is supported.

For players on platforms other than Xbox, check the current platform’s online-play requirements rather than assuming that Xbox’s subscription terms apply. The available details here identify the Xbox console requirement specifically; they do not establish identical subscription rules for PlayStation or PC. Also confirm that both people have internet access and can reach online play before treating an event search as a split-screen problem.
StarWars.com’s official announcement, dated April 30, 2026, says the game launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Steam lists October 6, 2026, as the release date, with Fuse Games as developer and Secret Mode as publisher. These platform and release details can help identify the right store listing, but they do not imply support for local multiplayer.
When to report a real bug
If an online feature that should work is failing, check the game’s maintained known-issues post first. Its support guidance says to report an issue if it is not listed, using the game’s customer support form. The FAQ also directs players who encounter a bug to customer support. The known-issues post and FAQ were checked October 11, 2026; their guidance and the list of active issues may change.

When you submit a report, describe the behavior clearly: identify your platform, say what online feature or event you were trying to use, include any error message or unexpected result, and explain the steps that led to it. This information helps support distinguish a connection or matchmaking problem from another defect. If a friend is affected too, explain whether the same problem occurs for both players or only one; do not assume the cause is a controller or display issue if the failure happens during online play.
Use the support form for a genuine bug or service problem, not as a way to unlock split-screen. The FAQ identifies local split-screen as unsupported, rather than a known issue awaiting a fix. A report can help with a failure in a feature the game is meant to provide; it cannot turn online multiplayer into shared-screen local play.
Choose online play only if it suits your setup
Online multiplayer is an alternative for racing with friends, but it does not meet every reason someone might want co-op. Before buying equipment or changing your setup, compare what online play requires with what you actually want:

- Internet access: both players need access to online play. This is not shared-screen local racing, and the FAQ does not describe an offline local mode.
- Platform compatibility: Steam lists cross-platform multiplayer, and the FAQ says PC-to-console crossplay is enabled by default but can be turned off. Check crossplay if you are on different platforms; do not assume that every failed connection is a split-screen issue.
- Party size versus race capacity: the FAQ’s current party limit is up to three, while Quick Race and Multiplayer Tour can accommodate up to 12 and Quick Podrace and Podracer Tour up to eight. Empty slots are filled with AI, but a two-person party starting a new Tour or Quick Race still needs a third unique player outside the party searching.
- Platform terms: Xbox’s store listing says console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, sold separately. Confirm current terms for your region and platform.
- Play style: online PvP is the documented alternative, but it is not a substitute if you specifically need two players sharing one display. If local shared-screen racing is essential, this game does not meet that requirement according to its FAQ.
- Matchmaking expectations: same-region players are prioritized, then other regions may be considered. The FAQ does not promise a match time, so the larger mode capacity does not guarantee an immediate event.
What not to buy or try as a split-screen fix
There is no verified split-screen option to compare or product that can add one. A second controller, replacement display, new console, PC upgrade, repair utility, or how-to guide cannot change the game’s documented feature set. Buying the game physically or digitally gives you the game, but another copy does not enable local split-screen.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If your actual goal is to race with another person, decide whether the online alternative works for both of you: you need online access, compatible platform arrangements, and acceptance of matchmaking rather than shared-screen play. If it does, follow the online steps above and check platform requirements. If it does not, avoid spending money on hardware marketed as a fix for this missing mode; the FAQ does not support that expectation.
There are no split-screen performance settings, controller combinations, or local-player limits to optimize because the FAQ says the feature is not supported. The useful comparison is instead between online multiplayer and the specific experience you want: whether both players can connect, whether crossplay is needed, whether subscription requirements apply, and whether waiting for matchmaking is acceptable.

How can I play with a friend instead?
Use online multiplayer. Confirm both players have access to online play, and check that crossplay has not been turned off if you are on different platforms. Steam lists online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer.
Why can’t my two-person party start a new Tour or Quick Race?
The FAQ says a third unique player outside your party must also be searching before a two-person party can start a new Tour or Quick Race. Matchmaking prioritizes the same region, then may match across regions; the FAQ does not guarantee a wait time.
How many players can join a party or race?
The FAQ, checked October 11, 2026, says online parties currently support up to three players, with an increase to six planned for a future update. Quick Race and Multiplayer Tour support up to 12 racers; Quick Podrace and Podracer Tour support up to eight. AI racers fill unoccupied slots. These limits may change.

The form is for genuine bugs or service problems, not for requesting unsupported split-screen.
The Bottom Line
STAR WARS: Galactic Racer does not support split-screen multiplayer, so a second controller or settings change cannot fix its absence. The alternative is online play: check crossplay and platform access, remember the party and race limits differ, and account for the extra searching player a two-person party needs to start a new Tour or Quick Race. Report only failures in features the game supports.
