Update Star Wars Zero Company to version 1.2 (released October 15, 2026) before attempting workarounds. That patch addresses several save-and-reload modifier failures, blocked missions, tutorial softlocks, and a main-menu crash. If your progress still fails to save, return control to Hawks, wait a few seconds, and then quit normally; EA warns that quitting while another character or a cutscene is active can leave the latest progress unwritten.
The reliable order is: update, protect the next save, restart and check service status, clear the applicable cache, repair PC files or reinstall the console update if necessary, and then report a repeatable problem with your platform, build, mission, save slot, and modifier settings.
1. Install the current patch before changing a save
As of October 16, 2026, Electronic Arts lists version 1.2 as the newest update. Apply it on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series before deleting a save, replaying a mission, or changing campaign settings. A workaround cannot reliably correct code that has already been fixed by the developer.

After installing, verify the version shown by your platform or the game’s title-screen information. If a platform offers an update but the game still displays the older build, close the game completely, restart the device, and check for the update again rather than continuing on the old executable.

2. Prevent the next save from being incomplete
Save timing is the most important preventive step. EA Help states: “If you quit the game while you’re not controlling Hawks, your latest progress might not finish saving.” The warning applies even when the game appears to have accepted an action.
- Finish the conversation, combat result, menu action, or cutscene that changed your progress.
- Wait until direct control returns to Hawks, or until the next mission has actually begun.
- Remain in control for a few seconds so the save can finish writing.
- Use the game’s normal quit command. Do not power off the console, close the PC process from the operating system, or hold the power button while the game is saving.
A forced shutdown is especially risky because version 1.1 specifically addressed corruption that could follow a sudden or forced shutdown. If the game has frozen and a hard restart is unavoidable, make a note of what was happening and which save slot was active; that information is useful if the file becomes unreadable.
3. Run the general recovery sequence
Use these steps in order. Stop when the original symptom is gone, but keep the details of any step that changes the behavior.

- Check service status. Review EA service status and the platform’s service status. A single-player title can still depend on account, entitlement, download, update, or cloud-related services. An outage can prevent an update or account operation even when the campaign itself runs offline.
- Clear the applicable cache. On PC, clear the EA app cache using its built-in recovery option. On a console, use the platform’s supported cache or power-cycle procedure; do not remove saved data when the menu offers separate choices for cache and data.
- Repair the PC installation. In the EA app, use the game’s repair option to verify and replace damaged files. Let the process finish before launching. A repair does not substitute for a patch; it checks the files belonging to the build already installed.
- Update graphics drivers on PC. Install the current driver supplied for your graphics hardware, restart Windows, and test the game again. Driver updates are most relevant when the symptom includes a black screen, freeze, or crash rather than a single missing objective.
- Test a normal save and reload. Start from a stable point, perform one short action, wait after control returns to Hawks, quit normally, and reload. This controlled test distinguishes a persistent file or progression problem from a one-time interruption.
Do not delete every save as a first response. Removing the only copy eliminates evidence and can turn a recoverable problem into permanent data loss. Preserve the affected slot until support has advised otherwise.
4. Match the symptom to the known fixes
The following table maps the most specific symptoms to the build or action that addresses them. “Fixed” means the behavior is listed in the corresponding official update notes; it does not guarantee that every older, already-damaged save can be repaired.

5. Understand Campaign Modifiers before calling one a bug
Campaign Modifiers are campaign-level rules selected from Difficulty Settings when you start a new campaign. They activate after the tutorial. They are not temporary mission toggles, and loading a campaign with a modifier enabled can produce results that differ from an unmodified campaign by design.

Rules that can change
- Injury and death behavior, including a static death risk of 20% that can escalate to 40% and then 80% after surviving defeats when those options are enabled.
- Advantage generation and health increases.
- Bond and tactical rules.
- Assist-shot accuracy, critical hits, and limits on perfect shots.
- Respec availability or locks.
One documented modifier gives enemies a 5% critical-hit chance when enabled. The 20%, 40%, 80%, and 5% figures are game-rule values, not estimates of how often players encounter bugs.
How to distinguish an intentional result
- Record every modifier selected in Difficulty Settings when the campaign was created.
- Note whether the campaign began before or after version 1.2 was installed.
- Compare the observed result with the modifier’s stated rule, not with an unmodified campaign.
- Only report it as a likely defect when the result contradicts the enabled rule and still reproduces after updating.
Do not assume that changing a modifier mid-campaign will retroactively repair a result. The documented selection point is campaign creation, and the rules take effect after the tutorial.
6. Use platform-appropriate checks
PC
Confirm the EA app and the game report the same current build. Clear the EA app cache, repair the game files, and update the graphics driver before testing again. If a repair reports changed files, allow it to complete and restart the computer. Record whether the failure occurs before loading a campaign, only after loading a particular slot, or only during a mission.
PlayStation 5
Restart the console completely, check PlayStation service status and the game’s update status, and use the console’s supported cache or power-cycle procedure. Do not choose an option that deletes saved data unless you have a verified backup and support has instructed you to do so. Test a normal save after the restart while following the Hawks-control timing rule.
Xbox Series
Restart the console, check Xbox service status, and confirm that the game has finished updating. Use the platform’s supported cache or power-cycle procedure rather than removing local saved data as a first step. After relaunching, test the affected campaign without forcing the application to close.
Menu names and cache procedures can change with platform firmware. If the available option does not clearly distinguish temporary cache data from saved games, stop and consult the platform’s current support instructions before selecting it.

7. Handle a blocked mission without making the save worse
First identify the exact mission, room, objective text, and action immediately before the block. A progression issue tied to the Retake Luunata elevator, inspection mode, the utility tutorial, or the epilogue objective has a specific 1.2 entry; updating is more useful than repeatedly overwriting the same slot.
- Install the current build and restart the device.
- Load the latest save made before the blocked interaction, if one exists.
- Allow the mission to begin fully, then wait a few seconds before quitting or saving again.
- Repeat the interaction once, without changing modifiers or skipping unrelated steps.
- If the block remains, preserve the slot and document the objective text, location, and exact sequence.
Do not create a chain of rapid overwrites while testing. Multiple new saves can obscure which state first became invalid and may replace the last usable checkpoint.
8. Recover safely when a save appears missing or corrupted
A missing entry is not automatically proof that the campaign is permanently lost. Confirm the game is fully updated, restart the device, and check the save list again. For a Beskar-related disappearance, version 1.1 is the relevant minimum build. For corruption after an abrupt shutdown, avoid repeating the shutdown and retain the affected slot for diagnosis.

Such changes can destroy timestamps and metadata that support staff may need. Capture the campaign name, slot identifier if shown, the last successful action, and whether the session ended normally or by force.
9. Prepare an effective EA support report
Escalate through the EA Help support hub when the current build and the general recovery sequence do not resolve a repeatable issue. A concise, reproducible report is more useful than a general statement that “the save is broken.” Include:
- Platform: PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series.
- Installed game version, including whether it is 1.1, 1.2, or a later build.
- Campaign name, mission or epilogue section, and save-slot identifier.
- Every Campaign Modifier enabled when the campaign was started.
- The last action that definitely saved and the first action that failed.
- Whether Hawks was under your control when you quit and whether the shutdown was forced.
- Exact objective text, room or landmark, and a short numbered reproduction sequence.
- What happened after restarting, checking service status, clearing cache, repairing files, or updating drivers.
For example: “PC, version 1.2; campaign started with Modifier A and Modifier B; Retake Luunata; saved in the elevator while controlling Hawks; after reload, the elevator objective does not advance; normal quit, no forced shutdown; reproduced twice after file repair.” Keep the report factual and separate expected modifier behavior from the suspected defect.

10. Choose between a quick fix and escalation
A restart, cache clear, or file repair is reversible and should be your first move when the symptom is a crash, black screen, freeze, or a one-time failed save. These actions do not explain a mission-specific block, but they can remove a temporary process or damaged-installation problem. Updating is equally low-risk and is the correct first action for any symptom named in the 1.1 or 1.2 notes.
Escalation becomes the better option when the same slot fails twice on the current build, when the failure is tied to a named objective, or when a modifier result contradicts its stated rule. Do not keep repeating a test that overwrites the only usable checkpoint. Preserve the slot, record the last successful state, and send the evidence to EA Help.
Use the comparison that fits your case: PC checks can include EA app cache, file repair, and driver updates; PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series checks focus on a complete restart, service status, update verification, and the platform’s temporary-cache procedure. A Beskar issue points to 1.1, while save/reload ability or modifier problems and the Retake Luunata elevator point to 1.2. That distinction prevents a generic workaround from replacing the relevant fix.
11. Common mistakes that make diagnosis harder
- Testing on an old build: an unfixed executable can reproduce a problem already addressed in 1.1 or 1.2.
- Quitting during a transition: leaving while Hawks is not controllable can interrupt the save write.
- Hard powering off repeatedly: sudden shutdowns are specifically associated with save corruption fixes in 1.1.
- Deleting the affected slot: support cannot inspect a file that no longer exists, and a replacement save may hide the original failure.

What the evidence does not establish
Electronic Arts has not published an incidence rate, percentage, or sample size for save, progression, or modifier bugs. Version numbers and documented modifier percentages describe software fixes and game rules; they do not indicate how common a failure is. That is why a support report should describe your exact reproduction instead of claiming that a particular bug affects a stated share of players.

Can Campaign Modifiers change my results without a bug?
