If Roblox closes immediately after you click Play—with no useful error message—the cause is usually a damaged client file, a conflicting security or overlay program, an outdated Windows component, or an unsupported device. Start by checking whether Roblox itself is having an outage, then use the fixes for your device.
At the time of checking, Roblox’s official status page showed All Systems Operational, including Player, Mobile App, Games, and Game Join. That makes a local installation or compatibility problem more likely than a platform-wide failure. If the status page later shows an incident, wait for Roblox to resolve it before changing your installation.

Fix Roblox closing instantly on Windows
1. Close conflicting programs and restart Windows
Exit Roblox completely, including any Roblox process that remains in Task Manager. Also close auto-clickers, game launchers, FPS counters, screen overlays, macro tools, and similar utilities. Roblox specifically identifies auto-clickers and other third-party applications as possible sources of client or connection interference.

Restart Windows and try Roblox before reopening those tools. This simple test is useful: if Roblox works after a clean restart but fails when one utility is running, that utility is the likely conflict.

2. Check which Roblox Windows app you have
Windows can contain two Roblox editions:
- Roblox – Windows has a blue icon and is the newer Microsoft Store app.
- Roblox has a light gray icon and is the older app.
Roblox says the older app will eventually stop working and recommends moving to Roblox – Windows. Open the Start menu and search for both names. If the newer app is installed, sign in to it and test an experience. Remove the older edition afterward if it is no longer needed.
If the Microsoft Store app is the one failing, switching editions is an official troubleshooting step: uninstall the Microsoft Store version and install the official desktop version from the Roblox website. If the desktop version fails, try the reverse. Do not install unofficial launchers or DLL packages.
3. Clear Roblox’s local cache
A corrupt cache can make the launcher close before it displays an error. To remove only the cache:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
%localappdata%Robloxand press Enter. - Delete the folder named Cache.
- Launch Roblox again.
If that does not help, close Roblox and delete the complete Roblox folder instead:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
%localappdata%and press Enter. - Delete the Roblox folder.
- Reinstall Roblox from an official source.
This removes local installation and cache files. It does not delete Studio places unless you manually saved those places inside the Roblox folder.
4. Reinstall Roblox cleanly
A normal reinstall often overwrites broken files, so uninstalling first is not always necessary. If reinstalling does not fix the instant closing, perform a clean reinstall:
- Uninstall the Roblox edition from Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Search for Roblox, select the three-dot menu, and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Delete the Roblox folder if it remains.
- Close other programs before installing Roblox again.
- Install either Roblox – Windows from Microsoft Store or the official desktop client from Roblox’s website.
Closing other programs matters because Roblox lists a running Roblox process, corrupted temporary files, firewall interference, and corrupted Roblox files among possible installation and launch problems.

5. Check antivirus quarantine and exclusions
Security software may quarantine a Roblox file and leave an incomplete installation. Open your antivirus program’s Quarantine, Blocked items, or equivalent section and look for Roblox files. Restore a file only if you are confident the Roblox installation came from an official source.
If your security software supports exclusions, add this Roblox installation folder:
C:UsersYour-Windows-UsernameAppDataLocalRobloxReplace Your-Windows-Username with your actual Windows account name. Windows Security and third-party antivirus products use different menus, so do not disable protection permanently. If Roblox works only when antivirus protection is disabled, re-enable protection and create a narrowly scoped Roblox exclusion instead.
6. Allow Roblox through the firewall
Roblox needs outbound Internet access. Open your firewall control panel, find the section for program permissions or allowed applications, locate Roblox, and allow it to access the Internet on the networks you use.

Do not create a rule for one supposedly permanent Roblox port. Roblox says client ports are selected dynamically. A current Roblox support article lists UDP ports 49152–65535, while its firewall guidance says the client is not bound to one fixed outgoing port. The practical rule is to allow Roblox’s outbound UDP traffic rather than restricting it to a single port.
7. Install Windows and graphics updates
Install pending Windows updates through Start > Settings > Windows Update. Then update the graphics driver:
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click your graphics card.
- Select Update driver.
Restart Windows after the updates. This is especially important if Roblox began closing after a Windows update, a graphics-driver change, or a long period without system updates.

8. Repair Windows system files
Missing or damaged Windows components can prevent Roblox libraries from loading. Right-click Start and open Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows Terminal (Admin). Run these commands separately, waiting for each one to finish:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthsfc /scannowRestart Windows when both scans are complete, then test Roblox. Do not download replacement DLL files from random websites. Roblox names missing, corrupted, outdated, or blocked files such as MFPlat.dll and urlmon.dll as possible causes, but replacing system DLLs manually can introduce malware or version mismatches.
9. Install Media Feature Pack on Windows N or KN
Windows N and KN editions can lack media components Roblox requires, including MFPlat.dll. Install Microsoft’s Media Feature Pack through:
Start > Settings > Apps > Optional features > Add a feature > Media Feature Pack > Install
Restart Windows after installation and try Roblox again.

Roblox supports macOS 10.13 High Sierra and later, including Apple Silicon/M1 Macs. If your Mac meets that requirement, try these steps in order.
1. Launch Roblox directly
If clicking Play in Safari causes nothing to happen or closes the client, try Firefox or Google Chrome. You can also launch Roblox from the Dock and then open the experience again. This separates a browser handoff problem from a broken application.

2. Reset Roblox logs
- Press Command + Space Bar.
- Enter
~/Library/Logs/Roblox/. - Open the folder.
- Delete everything inside it.
- Reproduce the launch failure.
Deleting the logs does not repair every problem, but it removes stale diagnostic files and gives you a clean set of logs if you need to contact Roblox Support.
3. Reset Roblox preferences
In Finder, open Library > Preferences and delete the Roblox com preference files. Roblox Player and Studio recreate their settings files the next time they launch.
4. Reinstall Roblox
- Press Command + Option + Esc.
- Select Roblox or Roblox Studio if it is listed, then click Force Quit.
- Open Finder > Applications.
- Drag Roblox to the Trash.
- Empty the Trash.
- Download and install Roblox again from the official Roblox website.
Fix Roblox closing on iPhone or iPad
Roblox currently requires iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 or later. Listed minimum Apple devices include the iPhone 6s, iPhone SE, iPod touch 7th generation, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, iPad 5th generation, and iPad Pro. A device below the operating-system requirement may not be able to run the current app reliably.
- Force-close Roblox. On a device with a Home button, press the Home button twice and swipe up on the Roblox preview. On newer devices, open the app switcher with the device’s normal swipe gesture and swipe Roblox away.
- Reopen Roblox.
- Restart the iPhone or iPad.
- Update or reinstall Roblox from the App Store.
- Clear Roblox cookies using the option provided in Roblox’s app settings or troubleshooting flow.
- Check Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure the date and time are correct, preferably with automatic setting enabled.
Cookie clearing is one troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix for every crash. If Roblox still closes after reinstalling, update iOS or iPadOS if an update is available and check the device requirements again.
Fix Roblox closing on Android
Roblox requires Android 8.0 or later and support for at least OpenGL ES 3.0. Menu names vary between Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, and other Android devices, but the process is generally:
- Open Settings and find Apps, Applications, or the device’s application manager.
- Select Roblox.
- Tap Force stop, confirm, and reopen Roblox.
- Restart the device if it still closes.
- Uninstall Roblox and install it again from Google Play.
- Return to Roblox’s app information screen, open Storage, and tap Clear data, then confirm.
- Check the device’s date and time settings and enable automatic date and time.
Roblox’s older support instructions describe the Google Play route as Google Play > three lines in the upper-left corner > My Apps and Experiences > Roblox > Uninstall > Install. Current Google Play versions may show app-management controls in a different place.

Record exactly where the failure occurs: after clicking the website Play button, while the launcher is opening, or while joining an experience. Note the operating system version, device model, Roblox app edition, and whether antivirus or an overlay is installed.

On Windows, the most useful final test is a clean installation after deleting %localappdata%Roblox. On Mac, reproduce the issue after clearing the Roblox logs. Then contact Roblox Support with the device details and any newly generated logs. Avoid repeatedly downloading DLL files, modified clients, or unofficial launchers; those can conceal the original problem and create a security risk.

Why does Roblox open and then immediately close?
