Most BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed connection and audio failures come from using the wrong connection mode or selecting the wrong playback and microphone device—not from a dead headset. This model has three separate paths: 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed wireless through its USB dongle, Bluetooth, and wired USB. Work through the mode-specific checks below, then use USB wired mode to separate a wireless problem from a headset, application, or operating-system problem.
1. Identify the connection you are actually trying to use
The BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed can connect in three different ways. Decide which path you want before pairing, changing sound settings, or reinstalling software.
| Connection path | What it is for | Important limitation or check |
|---|---|---|
| 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed wireless | Wireless connection through the included USB dongle; Razer presents this as the low-latency gaming route. | The dongle must be connected to the device you are using, and the headset must be switched to the 2.4 GHz side of its wireless control. |
| Bluetooth | Wireless pairing with a Bluetooth computer, phone, tablet, or other supported host, including pairing through the Razer Audio App. | Bluetooth does not play at the same time as the USB-dongle connection. |
| USB wired | A direct USB connection that Razer says carries audio and charges the headset. | Use it as a fallback and as an isolation test when wireless audio or pairing is unreliable. |
A single press of the SmartSwitch toggles between 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth. Razer’s product FAQ states: “No, there is no simultaneous audio.” In other words, a phone can show the headset as Bluetooth-connected while the headset is currently listening to the dongle path, or vice versa. Bluetooth being listed as connected does not prove that Bluetooth is the active audio route.
Quick mode check
- Decide whether the host device should use the USB dongle, Bluetooth, or a USB cable.
- Press the SmartSwitch once to select the matching wireless mode when you are using 2.4 GHz or Bluetooth.
- Only after the mode is correct, choose the headset as the output and input device in the operating system or application.
If you repeatedly pair Bluetooth while the headset is still on the dongle path, or repeatedly inspect the dongle while Bluetooth is active, you are troubleshooting the wrong connection.

2. Fix a 2.4 GHz dongle connection
For HyperSpeed wireless, connect the headset’s USB dongle to the computer or console you intend to use, switch the headset to the 2.4 GHz mode, and select the headset as the playback device. The available source material confirms the mode and dongle connection, but it does not document a universal, model-specific dongle re-pair procedure or a factory-reset sequence. Do not apply button combinations published for other BlackShark variants.
When the dongle appears connected but there is no sound
- Confirm the headset is not on Bluetooth. Press the SmartSwitch once and check the indicator or voice feedback for the selected wireless path.
- Make sure the dongle is plugged into the host you are currently using rather than another computer, dock, or console.
- Open the host’s sound settings and select the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed as the output. Also check the output selector inside the game, call app, media player, or browser.
- Raise the application volume and the system volume separately. A muted application can make a correctly connected headset appear silent.
- Try the USB wired mode described below. If wired audio works, the symptom is limited to the wireless path or its host-side selection; that is a troubleshooting inference, not a guaranteed manufacturer diagnosis.
When the dongle is not detected
Try another suitable USB port on the same host and check whether the operating system reacts when the dongle is inserted. If the headset works over USB wired mode but the dongle is never recognized, keep the dongle and headset on the exact model support page for further instructions rather than using a pairing utility intended for a different BlackShark model. The official material available for this model does not establish a universal recovery sequence.
3. Pair Bluetooth through the Razer Audio App
Use Razer’s documented sequence when Bluetooth is the intended connection:
Recommended Free Tools
- Switch the headset to Bluetooth mode with the SmartSwitch.
- Press and hold the power button until the headset light blinks blue.
- Open the Razer Audio App.
- Tap Add Devices.
- Select BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed from the device list.
After pairing, select the headset as the operating system’s playback device and, if you need voice input, as its microphone device. The app-pairing sequence above is the model-specific procedure documented by Razer.
If the app cannot see the headset
First repeat the sequence from the beginning: select Bluetooth, hold the power button until the blue blink appears, then use Add Devices. If the headset still does not appear, the retrieved official instructions do not establish a model-specific remove-and-readd, pairing-cache-clear, reset, or button-hold recovery method. Avoid presenting an unverified combination of controls as an official reset. Check the current RZ04-054201 support page for any newer instructions before attempting an update or contacting support.

4. Fix “no sound” after the headset connects
A connection indicator only confirms that some path is available. Playback can still be routed to speakers, a monitor, another Bluetooth device, or a different profile in the application.
Check the system output
- Open the host device’s sound-output settings.
- Choose BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed as the output device for the active connection mode.
- Play a known audio source and watch the system’s output meter, if available.
- Open the individual application’s audio settings and select the same headset there when the application has its own output selector.
- Disconnect other headsets, speakers, monitors, or Bluetooth audio devices temporarily so the host cannot silently switch routes.
Menu names differ between Windows, macOS, consoles, phones, and individual applications. The essential check is the same: the selected output must match the active BlackShark mode. A Bluetooth connection in the system list does not activate Bluetooth playback if the headset is currently switched to 2.4 GHz.

- Check the headset’s own volume control and the host’s master volume.
- Check the application or game volume mixer separately.
- Make sure the application is not muted or assigned to a different output.
- If sound works in one application but not another, treat the problem as an application routing or profile issue until the second application is configured to use the headset.
5. Fix a microphone that is not working
Razer’s model-specific microphone checks are simple but easy to overlook:
- Move the physical microphone mute toggle to the unmuted position.
- In the operating system’s input settings, select the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed as the microphone.
- In the calling app, game, or recording program, select the same headset as its input rather than leaving the app on a laptop, webcam, controller, or built-in microphone.
- Speak and watch the application’s input meter. If the meter does not move, verify the selected input and the physical mute state before changing unrelated audio settings.
Playback and microphone routing are independent. You can hear a game through the headset while a meeting app records from a laptop microphone, so successful playback does not prove that the BlackShark microphone is selected.
Microphone works in one program only
Keep the headset selected as the input in the program that fails. If another program has exclusive device or profile controls, its own input selector may override the operating system default. The supplied model guidance confirms the mute-toggle and input-device checks, but it does not define every application’s permission or exclusive-mode menu.

6. Use USB wired mode as a diagnostic fallback
Razer lists USB wired mode among the three supported connections and says the USB-A wired link supports audio passthrough and charging. Connect the headset by USB, select it as the host’s output and input, and test a sound source and microphone recording.

- Wired and wireless both fail for playback: check system and application output routing, volume, and mute states before assuming a hardware fault.
- Playback works but the microphone fails in every mode: repeat the physical mute and input-selection checks, then consult the exact model support page.
This comparison isolates variables; it is not a manufacturer promise that wired mode will repair a wireless fault.
7. Know which features require Razer Synapse
The headset is plug-and-play on supported platforms for basic operation. Razer’s FAQ says: “Yes, the headset functions plug-and-play across all supported platforms, but advanced features like 7.1 Surround Sound, EQ tuning, and mic enhancements require Razer Synapse on a Windows PC.”
That distinction explains a common false alarm: basic stereo playback may work while surround sound, equalizer controls, or microphone enhancements are absent. Install and configure Razer Synapse on a Windows PC when you need those advanced features. Do not assume that the Windows Synapse feature set applies unchanged to consoles, macOS, phones, or other platforms; the available product information does not establish complete feature support for every platform.
Separate a software-feature problem from a connection problem
- Basic sound and microphone work, enhancements are missing: this points toward Synapse installation, profile, or configuration rather than a failed wireless link.
- The headset is absent from the host or produces no basic sound: resolve the connection mode and device-selection issue first.
- Changing Synapse settings does not restore a missing connection: return to the mode, dongle/Bluetooth, output, and input checks instead of repeatedly changing EQ or surround settings.
8. Check the exact model support downloads before updating
The official support listing identifies this headset as model RZ04-054201. It lists a firmware updater, version 1.3.0_r7, released December 1, 2025, and a headset pairing utility, version 1.12.07_r4, released April 24, 2026. These entries are version- and date-sensitive; use the current RZ04-054201 support page rather than copying an old download or selecting a utility for a V3, V3 Pro, Xbox, or PlayStation variant.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The available support material does not provide a universal updater procedure or a verified list of symptoms fixed by those releases. Therefore:
- Confirm the page identifies RZ04-054201 before downloading anything.
- Read the current updater’s own instructions exactly, including any requirements about connection mode, power, or cables.
- Do not disconnect the headset or interrupt an update unless the current official instructions tell you to do so.
- Do not promise that firmware or pairing software will fix a particular dropout, microphone, or audio symptom.
If the support page supplies newer versions or model-specific recovery instructions, follow those current instructions in preference to older advice.
9. Charging and battery checks that affect availability
Razer’s current US product FAQ advertises up to 70 hours of play time and says a full charge to that advertised capacity takes around 4.5 hours. It also states that approximately 6 hours of play time can come from a 15-minute charge. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements, and actual operating time can vary with connection mode, volume, and features.
If the headset powers off or disappears during troubleshooting, charge it before interpreting the behavior as a pairing failure. USB wired mode can provide audio while charging, according to Razer’s product information, so it is useful when you need to continue testing while the battery is low.

| Headset shuts down during tests | Charge it; Razer quotes around 4.5 hours for a full charge. | Retest the selected mode and device routing after charging. |
11. When to stop troubleshooting and contact support
Escalate through the official support page when the headset fails in every available mode after you have checked the physical mute, output and input selections, charge level, and current model-specific software. Include the model identifier RZ04-054201, the connection mode that fails, whether USB wired audio works, and whether the microphone fails in every application. That information distinguishes a mode-selection problem from a broader device or host issue.
