If PlayStation Store DLC will not download or install, start by confirming that you are using the account that bought it, that the transaction completed, and that the add-on belongs to the same game, console generation, and region. Then check the download queue, free storage, network and PlayStation service status before restoring licenses. These checks resolve most entitlement, queue and compatibility problems without deleting saved data.
The right fix depends on the symptom: a missing purchase, a download that never starts, a stalled transfer, a message saying Waiting to install, or content that installed but is not yet available in the game. Follow the matching section below rather than repeating the purchase.
First, identify what is actually failing
DLC problems are easier to solve when you separate entitlement, downloading, installation and in-game availability. Use this table to choose the shortest path.

Do not buy the DLC again while you are diagnosing the problem. A second purchase can leave you with the same installation issue and makes it harder to identify which transaction is valid.

1. Verify the purchase, account and subscription
Use the account that bought or redeemed the DLC
Sign in to the PlayStation account that completed the purchase. DLC licenses are associated with that account, not simply with the console on which you are trying to play. If several family members use the console, switch to the purchaser’s profile before checking the store or library.
Check transaction history before repeating a purchase
Open the account’s transaction history and confirm that the DLC purchase completed. A failed authorization, cancelled order or pending payment does not create a usable entitlement. If the transaction is present, do not purchase the item again; continue with the library and license checks.
Check PlayStation Plus access
If the add-on was obtained through a PlayStation Plus benefit rather than a normal purchase, confirm that the relevant subscription is active and that the item is still available under the benefit’s terms. Losing the subscription or the benefit period can remove access even though the item may still appear in parts of the library.

DLC is attached to a particular base game and edition. Looking only in the general store can make an owned add-on appear to be missing, especially when a title has several editions or releases.
PS5 path
- Open Game Library.
- Select Your Collection.
- Choose the base game associated with the DLC.
- Open the game’s Add-Ons section.
- Select the specific add-on and confirm that it is downloaded or begin the download from this page.
PS4 path
- Open Library.
- Select Purchased.
- Choose the base game.
- Open PlayStation Store, then select Your Add-Ons.
- Find the DLC and start or verify its download.
Check the add-on name and the base game edition carefully. A DLC item for one release may not apply to a different edition, remaster or console version. If the add-on is listed as owned on the correct game page, the problem is usually installation or licensing rather than payment.
3. Confirm that the game should show the content yet
A completed download does not always make DLC appear immediately in the game. Some add-ons become available only after a story checkpoint, after a particular mission, or when the player reaches a specified location. Others add an item to an in-game menu, mailbox, vendor or character rather than placing it directly in the inventory.

Read the add-on’s description on its product page or consult the game’s own instructions for its activation condition. Save, close and relaunch the game after the add-on finishes installing. If the content is gated by progression, continue to the required checkpoint before treating the absence of the content as an installation failure.

Inspect and restart the download queue
For a queued transfer, open the console’s download controls and pause the item, wait briefly, then resume it. A queue entry can lose its connection to the store even when the purchase is valid.
- PS5: open Downloads/Uploads from the control center and select the DLC.
- PS4: open Notifications, then Downloads.
If pausing and resuming does not help, cancel or delete the failed queue entry and start the download again from the base game’s add-ons page. Removing a queue entry is not the same as deleting your purchase; verify the entitlement first, then redownload it from the library.
Check PlayStation service status
Store, account or content-delivery outages can prevent a legitimate download from starting. Check the official PlayStation service-status page before repeatedly retrying. If Sony reports an outage, wait for the affected service to recover and then retry the download.
Install available system software updates
Install any pending system software update on the console. Store and licensing changes may require a current system version, and Sony’s error-code guidance includes updating the console among the basic checks.
Check free storage against the game’s requirement
Open the game’s product details and note the minimum space required for the add-on or installation. Compare that requirement with the console’s currently available storage, not its total capacity. A console can have enough space for the download file but not for the unpacking and installation process. Delete or move unneeded games and media if necessary, then retry.

Test the network connection
Run the console’s built-in network test and retry the download. A transfer that stalls at the same point can indicate an unstable connection, a sign-in problem or a temporary service issue. Avoid changing several network settings at once; first establish whether the console can connect reliably to PlayStation services.
5. Resolve the ‘Waiting to install’ message
Waiting to install is different from a download that never begins. The console has obtained or queued content but cannot complete the installation. Start with storage and compatibility checks before deleting the game.
Check storage and the network
Confirm that enough free space remains for the installation and run a network test. If the queue is paused, resume it from Downloads/Uploads on PS5 or Notifications > Downloads on PS4. Restart the console after correcting storage or connection problems, then check the queue again.

Check disc and account regions
For a disc-based game, the disc must be licensed for the same country or region as the account that obtained the DLC. A region mismatch can make an add-on incompatible even when the purchase and download are valid. Check the game disc packaging or its regional identification and compare it with the account region. Digital base games do not involve a physical disc-region check, but the DLC still must match the relevant game release and account entitlement.
Restore licenses, then restart
Restoring licenses can refresh the console’s record of owned games and add-ons. After restoring, restart the console and retry the installation. Sony states that restoring licenses does not affect data, so it is an earlier and safer step than deleting the game.
6. Restore PlayStation licenses
Use the path for your console generation. Stay signed in to the account that owns the DLC while performing the operation.

- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Select Restore Licenses.
- Confirm the operation, then return to the game library and retry the add-on.
Sony also documents a per-game route on PS5: from the home screen or Game Library, highlight the game, press the Options button, and choose Restore License when that command is available.

- Open Settings.
- Select Account Management.
- Choose Restore Licenses.
- Select Restore, then retry the download or installation.
Restoring a license does not delete saved games, installed games or other personal data. It refreshes entitlement information; it does not bypass a region mismatch, create a missing purchase or unlock content that requires game progression.
7. Retry in the safest order
Once entitlement, compatibility and basic console conditions are confirmed, retry progressively. This order limits unnecessary redownloads.
- Close the game and return to the home screen.
- Confirm the DLC is listed under the base game’s add-ons.
- Pause and resume the queue once.
- Restart the console and check the queue again.
- Restore licenses using the PS5 or PS4 path above.
- Start the download again from the library rather than from an unrelated store search result.
If the item still fails, record the exact message or error code before moving to destructive steps. The wording can distinguish an entitlement problem from a transfer or storage failure.

Delete a failed or incomplete download only after verifying the purchase, account, region and available storage. Then return to the base game’s add-ons section and download the DLC again. A corrupted queue entry can prevent a second attempt from starting correctly.
Deleting the add-on’s installation does not cancel the purchase. However, the console must download the content again, so allow enough storage and time for the full transfer. Do not interrupt the console while it is copying or installing.

9. Reinstall the game and add-on only as a later step
If restoring licenses and redownloading the DLC fail, reinstall the base game and its add-on. Reinstallation requires downloading the content again and can take considerably longer than a license refresh or queue retry, which is why it belongs near the end of the process.
Before uninstalling, confirm that saved data is backed up or synchronized through the options available on your account. Remove and reinstall the game only when the account owns the DLC, the disc region is compatible where applicable, storage is sufficient, and PlayStation services are operating normally.
10. Use Safe Mode database rebuilding for persistent queue errors
Sony’s PS5 guidance for error CE-106487-6 includes rebuilding the database in Safe Mode when restoring licenses, deleting the failed download and retrying have not solved the problem. Treat this as an advanced maintenance step, not the first response to a missing add-on.
Follow Sony’s current Safe Mode instructions for entering the console’s Safe Mode and select the database-rebuild option specified for your model. Do not interrupt the process. If your console displays a different error code, use that code’s official guidance instead of assuming the same procedure applies.
Digital and disc games: what changes

The region check is especially important when a disc was imported, bought second-hand from another market or paired with an account registered in a different country. Do not assume that a disc’s language or the console’s physical location identifies its license region.
When to contact PlayStation Support
Contact PlayStation Support after the account, add-on, storage, network, region and license checks fail, or when the same error returns after a clean retry. Check service status first so you do not troubleshoot a temporary outage as a console fault.
Prepare the following information:
- The PlayStation account used for the purchase or redemption.
- The base game title, edition, console generation and whether it is digital or disc-based.
- The DLC name and the date the transaction was completed.
- The exact error code or message.
- The date and time of the failed attempt, including your time zone if requested.
- The steps that reproduce the problem, such as opening the add-on page, starting the download and receiving a specific message.
- A screenshot or video of the queue, error or missing add-on when available.
Support can then distinguish a missing entitlement, a regional incompatibility, a service-side failure and a damaged local installation. Do not send payment details or account credentials through an unsolicited message; use the official support channel associated with your region.

A compact decision path
- Purchase missing: switch to the purchasing account and verify transaction history or the active PlayStation Plus benefit.
- Owned but not visible: open the base game in the library and inspect its add-ons on the correct console path.
- Download will not start: inspect the queue, pause and resume, check service status, update system software, verify storage and test the network.
- Waiting to install: check storage and, for discs, region compatibility; restore licenses and restart.
- Installed but absent in-game: confirm the game edition and check whether a checkpoint or location unlocks the content.
- Still failing: delete and redownload, then consider reinstalling; use Safe Mode database rebuilding for the applicable PS5 error guidance.
- No resolution: contact PlayStation Support with the diagnostic details listed above.
