Most MSI Claw performance and launch problems can be narrowed down with four checks: confirm the exact Claw model, install the current model-specific BIOS and drivers, restore Balanced power settings, and start the game with a deliberately light graphics configuration. Intel-specific advice, including Over Boost and Arc driver requirements, applies only to Intel Core Ultra Claw models; AMD models need their own MSI update notes.
Work through the steps below in order. Change one game setting at a time, record what changes, and keep security-related Windows changes optional rather than treating them as a routine performance tweak.
Identify the Claw model and the exact failure
“MSI Claw” covers more than one hardware generation. Before installing a BIOS or Intel graphics package, record the full model name shown in MSI Center M or Windows System Information, such as an A1M or A8. Also note the game, launcher, Windows version, whether the problem occurs on battery or AC power, and any update installed immediately before the problem began.

Separate the symptom into one of these categories:
- Low or erratic frame rate: the game runs, but performance is consistently below expectations.
- Stutter: frame delivery is uneven, with brief pauses or hitching even when the average frame rate looks acceptable.
- First-launch crash: the game closes or fails only the first time it is started on the Claw.
- Every-launch failure: the game or launcher fails on each attempt, often with an error message.
- System-wide symptoms: several games, MSI Center M, or Windows itself behave abnormally.
This classification prevents an Intel-only fix from being applied to an AMD model and helps distinguish a game configuration problem from a firmware or Windows problem.

1. Update MSI Center M, BIOS, and drivers safely
MSI’s primary procedure is to use MSI Center M’s built-in updater. Open MSI Center M → News and Updates → Scan, then review and install the updates listed for your exact Claw model. MSI’s current gaming-settings guidance is available at MSI’s Claw settings FAQ.
- Connect the Claw to a reliable power source and use a stable network connection.
- Open MSI Center M and select News and Updates.
- Choose Scan and check that each listed BIOS, firmware, chipset, graphics, or utility package names your model.
- Read the release notes and any required installation order before starting a BIOS update.
- Leave MSI Center M open while the updater runs. Do not interrupt the process.
- Restart when MSI Center M requests it, even if Windows does not immediately prompt for a restart.
- After rebooting, return to News and Updates and scan again to confirm that no required package remains.
Important MSI Center M and Claw A1M sequencing notice
MSI’s notice for MSI Center M version 2.0.2509.1201 says to update MSI Center M before updating the Claw A1M to BIOS E1T41IMS.10F. Updating the BIOS first may cause Quick Settings to malfunction. That sequence is version-specific and can be superseded by newer releases, so check the current model support notes and update list before flashing. The release notice is at MSI’s update notice.
Intel model driver and BIOS caveat
Intel’s published MSI Claw performance article applies to Claw models using Intel Core Ultra processors with built-in Intel Arc graphics. It names Intel Arc Graphics Driver 31.0.101.5444 or newer and the latest available BIOS as prerequisites in that guidance. The article was last reviewed September 4, 2024, so treat those figures as Intel’s published threshold at that time and verify the current MSI release for your own model before installing anything. 2. Restore a sensible power profile
Power modes can change CPU and GPU limits, fan behavior, and frame-time consistency. Start from the settings MSI recommends rather than from a custom profile that may have been tuned for a different game.
- In MSI Center M, open the user scenario or performance profile control and select Balanced.
- In Windows 11, open Settings → System → Power & battery and set the power mode to Balanced when that option is available.
- Restart the game and test the same scene or repeatable section for several minutes.
Balanced is the baseline recommendation for the Claw in MSI’s guidance. It is not a promise of a particular frame rate; it is a controlled starting point that avoids comparing results from unknown power limits.
When Intel Over Boost is applicable
Intel’s Claw-specific guidance recommends Balanced together with Over Boost for Intel Core Ultra/Arc models. Over Boost requires BIOS 108 or newer, and Intel says to restart after toggling it. Check the BIOS version shown for your exact device before enabling the option. AMD models are outside this Intel recommendation.

3. Reduce game load methodically to stop stutter
When a game runs but hitches, lower the rendering workload in a fixed order. MSI specifically gives 1280 × 720 as an example of a lower resolution and recommends starting with Low graphics. The number is a settings example, not a benchmark or guaranteed frame-rate improvement.

- Set the game to Low, choose 1280 × 720, turn ray tracing off, and select Borderless Windowed if the game supports it.
- Play the same demanding section or use the same built-in benchmark.
- If hitching remains, test V-Sync off.
- Change only one option between tests, then write down whether the hitching, image quality, or input feel changed.
- Once the game is stable, raise one setting at a time until you find the best quality that remains smooth.
Game engines, patches, shaders, and save files behave differently, so a setting that helps one title may do little for another. Avoid changing the power profile, resolution, V-Sync, and several graphics options simultaneously; you will not know which change affected the result.
Resolution versus quality: choosing the compromise
Lowering resolution usually produces a larger GPU workload reduction than changing a minor visual option, but it is also the most visible compromise. If 1280 × 720 is too soft, keep a higher resolution and lower shadows, reflections, volumetric effects, or textures individually where the game exposes those controls. The MSI guidance establishes the low-resolution starting point, not a universal best setting.

MSI identifies a specific first-launch failure pattern: the same game account was previously used on a PC with high graphics settings, and those settings synchronize to the Claw. The Claw then attempts to use settings that consume too much available video memory and the game crashes before you can reach its menu.

- On the previous PC, start the game and lower its graphics preset and resolution.
- Disable ray tracing and select Borderless Windowed where the game offers it.
- Save or apply the settings, then exit the game normally so the account or cloud configuration is updated.
- Sign in on the Claw and launch again.
- If you cannot access the old PC, look for a launcher or configuration option that resets graphics settings before the game starts; use the game publisher’s official instructions for that title.
If the game now reaches its menu, increase quality gradually rather than restoring the old high preset in one step. A first-launch crash caused by synchronized settings is different from a game that fails every time because of a missing dependency, corrupted installation, or unsupported platform; do not apply the same diagnosis to both.
5. Understand the Windows security-feature trade-off
MSI says that Memory integrity and Virtual Machine Platform can reduce performance in some games. These features are part of Windows 11 security protections, not evidence of defective Claw hardware. Disabling them may improve a particular game’s performance, but it also reduces protection and should be an informed, reversible test rather than an automatic troubleshooting step.
Memory integrity
Memory integrity is managed under Windows Security’s device-security and core-isolation controls. If you choose to test with it disabled, record its original state first, restart Windows as requested, and test only the affected game. Re-enable it after the test if the performance difference is insignificant or if you prefer the added protection.
Virtual Machine Platform
Virtual Machine Platform is an optional Windows feature managed through the Windows Features control. Turning it off can affect virtualization-based software, emulators, containers, or other tools. If you disable it for a game test, note that dependency and restore the feature when you finish.

Neither change is a guaranteed fix, and the cited MSI guidance does not establish a universal frame-rate gain. If a game becomes stable without either feature, decide whether that game-specific improvement justifies the security and compatibility trade-off. Windows does not necessarily restore these protections automatically; you must turn them back on yourself.

The game stutters but never crashes
- Confirm MSI Center M and Windows are both on Balanced.
- For an Intel Core Ultra/Arc model, verify the Arc driver and BIOS are current before testing Over Boost.
- Apply the low-load sequence: 1280 × 720, Low, ray tracing off, Borderless Windowed, then V-Sync off if needed.
- Change one setting at a time and retest the same scene.
- If only one game is affected, check that game’s official requirements, patches, shader-cache behavior, and support notes; a single title may need a title-specific fix.
The game crashes only on the first launch
- Check for high settings synchronized from another PC account session.
- Lower the settings on that prior device or reset the game configuration before signing in on the Claw.
- Start with Low, Borderless Windowed, ray tracing off, and a lower resolution.
The game fails on every launch
- Capture the exact error text and identify whether the failure occurs in the launcher, during loading, or after the game window appears.
- Confirm that the game officially supports the Windows edition and hardware class used by the Claw.
- Check the game publisher’s requirements and repair or reinstall instructions before changing Windows security features.
- If several unrelated games fail, return to system-level checks: model-specific BIOS and drivers, MSI Center M health, Windows updates, and recent changes.
The problem appears only on battery
- Repeat the test on AC power with MSI Center M and Windows set to Balanced.
- Record whether plugging in changes the profile, clock behavior, or fan response.
- Do not compare a battery result with an AC result while changing graphics settings at the same time.
Quick Settings stops working after an update
For the version-specific A1M case, MSI warns that installing BIOS E1T41IMS.10F before MSI Center M 2.0.2509.1201 can cause Quick Settings to malfunction. Check the current MSI notice and support page rather than repeating that sequence with newer releases. If the malfunction remains after the correct update order and restart, document the installed versions for MSI support.

7. When to stop changing settings and contact support
Stop experimenting with firmware or security settings when the evidence points outside a general performance configuration issue. Prepare a concise record containing:
- Exact Claw model and processor generation.
- Windows version and MSI Center M version.
- BIOS and graphics-driver versions.
- Game title, launcher, and whether the failure is first-launch-only.
- Battery or AC condition and the selected MSI Center M and Windows power modes.
- Exact error text, crash timing, and the setting change that preceded the symptom.
Use the game publisher’s official support channel for title-specific requirements or launcher errors. Contact MSI support when multiple games or Windows functions show system-level failures after the correct model-specific updates and restarts. The available MSI and Intel guidance does not establish one universal fix for every Claw game or every crash, so an exact symptom record is more useful than repeatedly flashing unrelated BIOS files or disabling security protections blindly.
