Godlike.Host offers hosted Space Engineers servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
“No response received from server” is usually a dedicated-server workload timeout, not a graphics setting problem. The documented triggers are a large save taking too long to autosave, world-file compression while a player is joining, or an excessive number of entities for the server to track. If you run the server, back up the world, reduce the heaviest machinery and entity counts, run your hosting panel’s maintenance script, and then test a new connection. If you are only a player, the practical fix is to give these details to the server owner or hosting provider.
What the message means
Space Engineers displays this message when the game client stops receiving a timely response from the dedicated server during a connection or play session. The wording does not identify a single failure. According to hosting guidance from Pingperfect Ltd, accessed October 14, 2026, the message appears during one of three server-side operations: a long autosave, compression of the world file for a joining client, or tracking an excessive number of objects and entities.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
That distinction matters because the first remedies belong on the server. Reinstalling the client, changing graphics quality, or buying a faster internet connection are not established fixes for this exact message. They may be relevant to other connection or performance problems, but the documented causes here concern the dedicated server’s save, transfer, and simulation workload.
The three documented causes
| When the timeout occurs | What the server is doing | Most useful response | Who can perform it |
|---|---|---|---|
| During or immediately after an autosave | The dedicated-server save file is large enough that writing the save takes more than a few seconds. | Back up the world, reduce unnecessary world load, run the host’s maintenance process, and retest the save and join behavior. | Server owner, administrator, or hosting provider. |
| As a player starts to connect | The server is compressing the world file before sending it to the new client. | Check whether every join triggers the timeout; reduce the world’s heavy object load and ask the host to verify maintenance and transfer behavior. | Usually the server owner or host; a player can only report the timing. |
| After the world has accumulated many machines or other entities | The dedicated server has too many objects or entities to keep track of at once. | Limit drills, turrets, grinders, refineries, pistons, rotors, rocket launchers, and similar objects, then maintain the world. | Server owner or administrator, sometimes with host assistance. |
These causes can overlap. A large entity count can make the save larger and can also increase the work required while a joining client’s world is compressed. Treat the timing of the message as a clue, not proof of a separate networking fault.

First determine whether you control the server
If you are a regular player
You cannot repair the dedicated server’s save or entity workload from the game client. Record when the message appears and send the administrator a concise report:
- Whether the timeout happens every time or only occasionally.
- Whether it happens exactly as you join, after an autosave, or during normal play.
- Whether other players are disconnected at the same time.
- The name of the world or server and the approximate time of the failure.
- Any recent addition of large bases, automated production, moving mechanisms, turrets, or other machinery.
Ask the administrator to check the save operation, world-transfer compression, and entity load. Do not delete local game files or alter graphics settings as a first response; neither action addresses the documented server workload triggers.

Make changes in a controlled order. A backup lets you reverse an over-aggressive cleanup, and a timing note tells you whether a change affected saves, joins, or both. Do not begin by deleting machinery from the live world without preserving a known-good copy.
Step-by-step repair for a server owner
1. Reproduce and classify the timeout
- Ask one player to attempt a connection while you observe the server panel or console.
- Write down whether the message appears at the moment the player starts joining, while the server is saving, or during ordinary play.
- Check whether the same event affects multiple players. A simultaneous failure points toward a server operation rather than one player’s device.
- Repeat only enough times to establish a pattern. Repeated join attempts during a heavy save can add load and make diagnosis less clear.
A join-time pattern makes world-file compression a plausible trigger. A pattern around scheduled autosaves points toward save duration. A gradual increase in failures as the world grows points toward entity and object workload. The source guidance does not provide a universal time threshold, so use the server’s own logs and panel status rather than assuming a fixed number of seconds.

2. Back up the world before maintenance
- Stop or pause the server using the control offered by your hosting panel or dedicated-server setup.
- Create a complete copy of the current world, including the save data your host makes available for restoration.
- Label the backup with the date and the reason for the change, such as “before entity cleanup.”
- Verify that the backup appears in the panel or in your designated backup location before editing the world.
The backup is essential because reducing machinery can change a player-built world. If a cleanup removes something important, restore the copy rather than attempting to reconstruct the original by guesswork.
3. Find the heaviest object groups
Inspect the world for unusually large numbers of active or complex objects. The documented examples are:
- Drills
- Turrets
- Grinders
- Refineries
- Pistons
- Rotors
- Rocket launchers
Also look for similar machinery that creates many moving parts, continuously simulates activity, or has been duplicated across abandoned bases. The recommendation is to limit these objects for players; it is not a direction to remove every instance. Start with obvious surplus, unused, duplicated, or permanently running equipment and preserve essential builds.
4. Reduce the load in an auditable way
- Choose one category or one abandoned area at a time instead of changing the entire world.
- Record what was removed, disabled, or consolidated so players know what changed.
- Prefer shutting down unnecessary machinery or consolidating duplicate systems before deleting active stations that a faction still uses.
- Keep the server stopped or in its supported maintenance mode while making world changes; do not edit files that the server is writing.
- Save the revised world and retain the original backup until the community has confirmed that important builds still work.
There is no published universal object limit in the cited guidance. A number that is safe for one world, server configuration, or hosting plan should not be presented as a guarantee for another. Use the pattern in your own logs and the host’s resource information to decide whether another reduction is needed.

5. Run the hosting panel’s maintenance script
After the backup and object reduction, run the maintenance script supplied by your hosting panel. The documented advice is to run this process regularly, not only after a failure. Panel labels vary, so use the maintenance action provided by your host rather than searching for an unrelated client-side utility.
- Open the game server control panel.
- Confirm that the correct Space Engineers instance and world are selected.
- Stop the server or follow the panel’s stated requirement for maintenance mode.
- Start the maintenance process and wait for the panel to report completion or failure.
- Restart the server using the normal startup action.
If the panel reports an error, copy the exact message and contact the host before repeating the operation. Do not restore over your backup or run several maintenance jobs at once; either action can make it harder to identify which change affected the world.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →6. Retest both saves and joins
- Join with one test player while watching the server status.
- Have a second player connect after the first session is stable, because compression for a new client is a distinct trigger.
- Observe the next scheduled autosave or perform the normal save action supported by your setup.
- Compare the timing and symptoms with the notes made before maintenance.
- If the message returns, stop adding new machinery and send the host your before-and-after observations, backup date, maintenance result, and approximate entity changes.
A successful test should be described narrowly: for example, “the next two joins completed without the timeout.” It does not prove that every future save or every world size will behave the same way.
How to tell which cause fits your symptoms
The message appears as someone joins
Compression of the world file for a new client is a documented possibility when the timeout occurs right as someone starts to connect. Ask whether an existing player can continue playing while the newcomer fails, or whether the whole server becomes unresponsive. Preserve the world first, then reduce heavy object groups and run maintenance. If only one account cannot join while others connect normally, give the host the exact account and timing; the documented evidence still points to a server operation, but the host may need additional logs to rule out an account-specific issue.

The message follows an autosave
A large dedicated-server save can take more than a few seconds. If failures cluster around the save interval, compare the server’s save status with the client message and avoid scheduling additional maintenance at the same moment. Reducing unnecessary machinery and running the host’s maintenance script are the supported actions. Do not claim that changing a client’s resolution or frame rate will shorten a server save; those settings are not established by the cited guidance.
The problem grows as the world becomes busier
An excessive number of entities increases the server’s tracking workload. Review recent construction and look for repeated drills, turrets, grinders, refineries, pistons, rotors, rocket launchers, and comparable systems. Inactive or abandoned installations are useful first candidates for cleanup because they add load without serving current players. Keep a written change list and retain the backup until the result is verified.
What players and administrators should not assume
- It is not automatically an internet outage. A player may see a timeout even when their local connection is working, because the server can be busy saving or compressing the world.
- It is not automatically a damaged installation. Reinstalling the game is not a documented remedy for this message.
- Graphics changes are not a server fix. Lowering detail, changing resolution, or adjusting visual settings does not reduce the dedicated server’s save or entity-tracking work according to the available guidance.
- There is no documented magic object number. The source identifies categories of heavy objects but supplies no universal limit, version matrix, platform table, or benchmark.
- A single successful join is not a permanent guarantee. A later autosave or a newly expanded base can recreate the workload that caused the timeout.
Prevention for an active server
Set a construction policy
Tell players that drills, turrets, grinders, refineries, pistons, rotors, rocket launchers, and similar systems consume server resources even when a base looks visually static. Require players to remove abandoned duplicates and shut down machinery that does not need to run continuously. A policy is more effective when it explains the reason—save and tracking workload—rather than imposing an unexplained build restriction.
Schedule regular maintenance
Run the hosting panel’s maintenance process regularly, following the host’s documented stop, backup, and restart sequence. Keep dated backups so you can compare a world before and after cleanup. Record maintenance dates, major construction events, and any timeout reports; that history helps distinguish a gradual entity-load problem from an isolated save event.

Monitor the moments that matter
Pay particular attention to autosave completion and new-player joins. A short note containing the time, player, and server status is often more useful than a general complaint that the server is “laggy.” When reporting to a provider, include the world name, the observed trigger, the maintenance result, and whether multiple players were affected.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen to contact the hosting provider
Contact the provider when you do not have access to the world files or maintenance controls, when the panel maintenance action fails, or when the timeout continues after a backed-up cleanup and maintenance run. Ask the provider to check the dedicated server’s save duration, world-file compression during joins, and current entity workload. Include the exact wording of the client message and your timing observations. The provider may have server logs or resource data that a player cannot see.
If you are choosing a managed Space Engineers server, ask before subscribing which world-backup options, maintenance scripts, save monitoring, and entity-management controls are included. The documented remedy depends on those administrative capabilities, not merely on the client’s graphics settings.
A compact decision checklist
- Only one player reports it: capture the join time and send it to the administrator; do not assume the local PC is at fault.
- Several players fail together: inspect the server’s save or connection activity.
- Failure occurs at join: investigate world-file compression and entity load.
- Failure follows autosave: investigate save size and save duration.
- World has many complex machines: back it up, reduce the heaviest groups, and document the changes.
- Maintenance has not been run recently: run the hosting panel’s process using its supported stop-and-restart sequence.
- Problem persists: provide the host with timestamps, symptoms, backup details, maintenance output, and the categories of objects recently changed.
Source scope and limits
The cause-and-remedy mapping in this guide comes from Pingperfect Ltd’s Space Engineers hosting guidance, accessed October 14, 2026. That guidance identifies the three server-side triggers and recommends limiting heavy objects, backing up the world, and running the maintenance script regularly. It does not publish a named statistic, universal entity threshold, game-version scope, platform matrix, or confirmation from Keen Software House. Those details therefore should not be inferred as guarantees. Apply the procedure to the server’s own logs and hosting controls, and ask the provider for version-specific advice when the documented steps do not resolve the timeout.
