If No Man’s Sky crashes, freezes, or shows a black screen on your iPhone, first check that your exact model and iOS version meet the current App Store requirements. Then try force-closing and reopening the game, restarting the iPhone, and checking for updates before considering a reinstall. The iOS version was still listed as forthcoming on October 13, 2026, so its real-world crash causes and fixes had not yet been established.
Check whether your iPhone meets the published requirements
The official descriptions currently disagree about the oldest supported iPhone. Hello Games says the game is playable on iPhone 11 and above, while the US App Store listing lists iOS 26.0 or later and includes iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR. Neither statement resolves the discrepancy. Check the live listing for your exact device and region before treating a crash as a game defect; compatibility and release information may change.
Hello Games announced the iOS version on October 12, 2026, describing it as the full game with more than forty major updates. Its announcement gave an October 28 release date, while the US App Store listing showed “Expected Oct 29, 2026.” Because those dates differ and the game was still forthcoming on October 13, use the live store listing for the current availability date.

- The game will not open or closes: Follow Apple’s standard app recovery steps in order.
- The game freezes during play: Start with the same reversible steps. The available official sources do not identify a particular location, save, or graphics setting as a known iPhone crash trigger.
- A black screen appears at launch: You can try the Game Center workaround below, but it comes from a general 2020 Hello Games support article and has not been verified for the forthcoming iOS version of No Man’s Sky.
Try Apple’s basic app recovery steps
Apple recommends trying these actions for an app that stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or will not open. Move from the least disruptive step to the next:

- Force close the game, then reopen it. Use the iPhone’s app switcher to close No Man’s Sky, then launch it again.
- Restart your iPhone. After the phone restarts, open the game and check whether the problem returns.
- Check for a game update. Open the App Store and look for an available update for No Man’s Sky.
- Update iOS if no game update is available. Check the iPhone’s software update settings and install an available update if appropriate.
These are general Apple recommendations, not fixes confirmed for a particular No Man’s Sky iPhone crash. If the same problem continues, note what you were doing when it happened and whether it happens again under the same circumstances.
For a black screen at launch, consider the Game Center workaround
Hello Games’ general article for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV games describes this sequence for a black screen at launch. The instructions date from 2020 and do not establish that the procedure fixes No Man’s Sky on iPhone, so treat it as an optional symptom-specific workaround rather than a guaranteed solution.

- Force close the game.
- Open Settings > Game Center and sign out.
- Launch the game. When the Game Center sign-in prompt appears, cancel it.
- If the game opens, relaunch it and sign in to Game Center.
The 2020 article says to hard reset and retry if Game Center is not accessible in Settings. Do not infer from that general advice that a black launch screen has a known No Man’s Sky-specific cause.
Reinstall only after considering storage and saved data
Apple includes deleting and redownloading an app among its troubleshooting options, but warns that deleting an app may remove data stored in it. The sources available do not establish how No Man’s Sky iOS saves are backed up or synced, so do not assume a save can be recovered after deletion. Consider reinstalling only after the less disruptive steps, and check available storage first: the US App Store listing reports an app size of 3.8 GB. That size is a listing figure, not evidence that low storage causes this game to crash.

Contact Hello Games if the problem persists
If the game still crashes or freezes, Hello Games directs players to its Help Centre to report an issue or request support. A clear report can help describe the failure:
- Your exact iPhone model and iOS version
- The game version, if available
- What you were doing immediately before the crash or freeze
- Whether the problem happens again and what steps reproduce it
- Screenshots or crash details, if available
These are useful details to include, not a published list of mandatory fields. The Hello Games support request form is available for submitting a report.

Hello Games says, “We have rebuilt touch controls from the ground up to make No Man’s Sky feel totally at home on mobile.” That is the developer’s statement in its October 12, 2026 announcement, not evidence about crash frequency or performance. No crash statistics or iPhone performance benchmarks were established in the official material available before the announced release.
