If Netflix shows “Something went wrong. We are having technical difficulties and are actively working on a fix. Please try again in a few minutes” while you use a sign-in link or code, try signing in with your account password. If that fails, wait and try again later, as Netflix advises. The wording alone does not identify a cause: first check whether it appears during sign-in, when opening Netflix, or during playback, then follow the troubleshooting path for that situation.
First identify when the message appears
Netflix documents the technical-difficulties wording in guidance for sign-in links and codes. Its explanation is that there was a problem connecting to the Netflix account; it does not establish whether the underlying issue is with the account, device, network, or a temporary problem. Note what you were doing when it appeared, which device and app or browser you were using, and whether Netflix showed an error code.

- Entering a sign-in link or code: use the steps for the exact technical-difficulties message below.
- Signing in and seeing different wording: check Netflix’s guidance for that particular message; similar phrases can have different instructions.
- Opening the app or playing a title: use Netflix’s connection or device troubleshooting only if the symptoms fit those cases.
Netflix’s sign-in and sign-up link or code guidance describes the exact technical-difficulties message and its recommended response.

If it appears while using a sign-in link or code
- Choose the option to sign in with your Netflix account password instead of using the link or code.
- If password sign-in does not work, wait and try signing in again later.
Those are Netflix’s stated steps for this specific sign-in/code context. The page does not say that the message proves an account lock, service outage, or device fault.

If the sign-in message is similar but not identical
Netflix has separate guidance for “Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later.” Do not assume that this is the same error as the technical-difficulties message above. Netflix says the similar sign-in error often resolves on its own and lists device restart, clearing Netflix cookies in a web browser, and restarting the home network among its steps. Clearing cookies signs you out of Netflix in that browser, so you will need to sign in again.
Follow the instructions on Netflix’s page for “Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later” for your device, and test again after each step. Netflix also has a separate page for another similar message, “Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later” sign-in help; use the guidance that matches the wording and situation you actually see.

If Netflix reports a connection problem
Use this branch when Netflix displays a connection error or other apps are also struggling to connect. Netflix says a related “Unable to connect to Netflix” error may mean device data needs refreshing or a network issue is preventing the connection. That is a possible explanation for the related connection error, not a diagnosis of the sign-in/code message.

If Netflix alone keeps failing on one device
If other apps connect normally but Netflix continues to fail on a particular device, follow Netflix’s device-specific instructions for restarting the device or signing out and back in. If those steps do not resolve the problem, Netflix says you may need to watch on a different device. This is a fallback for a persistent device problem, not evidence that buying replacement hardware will fix the exact sign-in message.
Find the relevant steps in Netflix’s help for an app that crashes or closes. If troubleshooting does not help, contact Netflix or the device maker. Netflix’s Help Center lets you search by error code or message and provides a way to contact support.

When to contact support
Contact Netflix if the exact sign-in/code message keeps returning after password sign-in and a later retry, or if you cannot identify which help instructions match what you see. Include the full message, any error code, what you were doing when it appeared, and your device and app or browser. If other apps also cannot connect and restarting your home network has not helped, contact your internet service provider about the connection.
