If Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will not launch, keeps crashing, stutters, shows a black or flickering screen, or fails to play cutscenes, work through the checks below in order. Start by comparing your PC with the current Steam requirements, then check security software, drivers, game files, and the setting that matches your symptom. These are troubleshooting steps published by Capcom, not a diagnosis or a guarantee that one fix will resolve every problem.
1. Check whether your PC meets the current requirements
Compare your processor, graphics card and VRAM, system memory, and Windows version with the live Steam system requirements. Capcom warns that a PC below minimum requirements may have poor frame rates or fail to run. If it meets minimum but not recommended requirements, lower the graphics settings before considering a hardware change. Capcom also says normal operation is not guaranteed on onboard graphics that share system memory or on mobile GPUs, even if they meet displayed requirements. Note whether your graphics are integrated, mobile, or part of a dual-GPU setup; that can affect which checks apply. The Steam requirements can change, so use the current listing rather than relying on an older specification copied elsewhere.
2. If the game will not launch or frame rates suddenly drop, check security software
Capcom says security software can falsely flag game files and prevent the executable from launching; it may also contribute to frame-rate drops. Capcom Customer Support described this as “Some launching issues and frame rate drops may be attributed to certain security software preventing the game executable from launching due to a false-positive error.” See the official Steam troubleshooting thread.

- Check your security software’s instructions for adding exclusions to its antivirus and firewall.
- Check exclusions for the game executable and installation folder,
Steam.exe, and Steam AppData. The default game folder Capcom lists isC:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonMONSTER_HUNTER_STORIES_3_TWISTED_REFLECTION; your Steam library may be in a different location. - If the exclusions are already present, Capcom suggests removing and adding them again. Confirm that the paths point to your actual Steam installation.
3. Update Windows and graphics drivers, then check GPU selection
Install available Windows and graphics-driver updates. Restart the PC after installing a graphics driver. If a standard update does not help, Capcom lists a clean graphics-driver installation as a later troubleshooting step; follow the instructions from your GPU manufacturer rather than using an unfamiliar driver utility.
On a PC with two GPUs
Confirm that the game is assigned to the intended high-performance GPU in your graphics settings. If you have changed driver-level graphics settings, resetting them to defaults may help isolate a configuration conflict. Capcom notes that some high-end integrated graphics and modern laptop GPUs may work but are not tested or officially supported.

Try administrator permissions only if needed
Capcom suggests trying to run Steam.exe as administrator and, if necessary, the game executable. If Compatibility Mode is enabled for either executable, turn it off as a separate compatibility check.
4. Verify the game files and close conflicting applications
Verify files in Steam
- In Steam, open Library and right-click Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.
- Choose Properties, then Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files and allow the check to finish. Steam can replace missing or corrupted files.
Close resource-heavy apps and overlays
Close applications that use significant system resources, including capture software and performance overlays, then test the game again. This helps determine whether another running program is contributing to instability or poor performance.

Clear the named shader cache files if trouble remains
Capcom says to delete these files from the game installation folder if they are present: shader.cache, shader.cache2, and pipelinelist.bin. Check the folder before deleting; do not remove unrelated files.
5. Choose the check that matches your symptom
Low FPS, stuttering, or unstable frame rate
- Set Graphics Settings to Low or Medium and test again.
- Check that the PC has adequate ventilation and is not overheating.
- Try limiting the frame rate, as Capcom recommends.
Black screen or flickering
Adjust V-Sync under Options > Monitor and check the monitor’s own settings. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it affects the display problem.

Cutscenes do not play on Windows N or KN
Try installing Microsoft’s Media Feature Pack. Capcom notes that some cutscenes use Windows Media Player codecs, which may be absent from N/KN editions of Windows.

6. Check Capcom’s NVIDIA driver notices before changing drivers
Capcom reported on March 26, 2026, that it had identified crash-related issues with NVIDIA drivers including 595.79 and 595.97 and was investigating with NVIDIA. On April 2, 2026, Capcom said version 1.0.04 fixed a bug related to GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards and certain drivers. Those notices do not identify every affected configuration, and they do not establish that a particular crash has the same cause. Check Capcom’s current game notices and current driver information before considering a rollback or another driver change. The driver and game version numbers are identifiers, not performance measurements.
7. Send useful details to Capcom if the problem persists
Capcom asks players contacting support to include information that can distinguish a game issue from a system or configuration problem:
- CPU, GPU model and VRAM, system memory, Windows version, and graphics-driver version.
- Security software and monitor details.
- Graphics settings from
config.ini. - The exact symptom, when and where it occurs, whether it can be reproduced, and the steps that reproduce it.
- Screenshots or video, if available.
For a crash, look for a CrashReport folder in the game directory. A timestamped ZIP is usually created; keep the report closest in time to the crash for support. Capcom’s troubleshooting instructions are in the Steam support thread.
