If a Google Local Services Ads lead seems missing or its charge looks wrong, first compare the lead inbox with the Reports page for the same date range. Then check the lead’s charge status and Google’s rules for calls, repeat contacts and credits. If the account has few or no new leads, troubleshoot ad delivery separately: a reporting mismatch, a disputed lead and an ad that is not showing are different problems.
Start by identifying what is actually missing
In Local Services Ads, a lead record, a report total and a charge are related, but they are not the same thing. A customer interaction might appear in the lead inbox without being charged; a charge might later be credited; and a report total can look wrong if its date range or filters do not match the period you are checking. Before disputing a charge or assuming a lead vanished, compare the account’s records.
Use this quick distinction to choose the right branch:
- A lead record is missing: Check the inbox date range and available lead channels. If the interaction still cannot be found, gather the event details and contact support through the account.
- A report total is unexpected: Check its date range, lead channel, charge filters and credits against the lead list.
- A charge seems incorrect: Read the lead’s Charge Status, apply the relevant lead rules, then use feedback or the dispute flow as appropriate.
- Expected leads are not arriving: Check campaign delivery settings and account alerts. A lead-credit workflow will not fix an ad that is paused, under review or otherwise not serving.
Google’s public guidance explains how to inspect records and apply general lead rules, but it cannot establish what happened to a particular advertiser’s private lead event or billing record. That account-specific mismatch may need support to investigate.

Reconcile the lead inbox with Reports
Find the interaction in the lead inbox
- Open the Local Services Ads lead inbox and select Leads.
- Set a date range that includes the day the call, message or booking request happened. Make sure you are checking the correct business account if you manage more than one.
- Review the available lead records and note the channel: call, message or booking. Check the event details and Charge Status rather than relying on a summary count alone.
Compare the same period in Reports
- From the inbox menu, open Reports.
- Select the same date range used for the lead list.
- Compare the leads received, channel, charged-lead totals, spend and credits shown for that period. If you apply a filter, such as charged leads or spend by category or direct business search, account for it when comparing totals.
Reports show leads received and credits for a period; a report figure is not necessarily a count of currently charged leads. Google says report data is available from October 1, 2017 onward. Advertisers managing many businesses can use the Local Services API for reporting across managed accounts; Google describes it as intended for manager accounts at scale.
If the two views still do not line up, write down the report period, filters, lead channel and status shown for the relevant record. Those specifics make it easier to distinguish a display or filter mismatch from an unresolved account record.
For a useful comparison, avoid changing several things at once. First match the dates, then compare the same channel and business account, and only then apply or remove a charged-lead or category filter. A report that includes all leads received can differ from a view limited to charged leads, while credits may affect spend without removing the original lead from the period’s history. If a report period spans several weeks, narrow it to the event date to see whether one interaction explains the difference.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsRead the lead’s Charge Status before judging the bill
On the Leads page, use the Charge Status field to understand what Google currently shows for that event. Lead quality is assessed over time, so a status can change after the initial contact.
| Status | What it means | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Charged | The lead has been charged. | Check whether it meets Google’s lead rules. If you believe it is invalid, use the eligible dispute flow; if it is unwanted or poor quality, submit lead feedback. |
| Not charged | The lead was not charged at the outset. | Check the record and report period, but do not treat this status as a charge that needs disputing. |
| In review | The lead is being reviewed. | Check the status again later; the assessment may not be final. |
| Credited | An earlier charge was credited. | Check the account balance or credit reporting as well as the invoice line. |
A charge can remain visible on an invoice even after a credit has been applied to the account balance. Google says that in most cases credits are applied within 30 days. The invoice line by itself is therefore not proof that a credit failed to occur; check the account balance or credit reporting for the corresponding credit.
Keep the original charge and the credit separate when you investigate. A lead marked Credited records that an earlier charge was reversed; it does not necessarily mean the lead never appeared or that its invoice entry will disappear. If the lead is marked In review, do not treat that as a final decision. Recheck the record and the balance later, and use the available feedback or dispute route if the issue remains eligible.
Apply Google’s rules to calls and repeat contacts
A call is not automatically invalid just because it was missed, and a long ring is not the sole test for every call. Whether a call qualifies depends on what happened during the call, whether it was answered, how the phone system handled it and whether it occurred during configured business hours. Google’s examples of generally valid leads include an answered call, a call-back conversation, a qualifying missed call during business hours, a customer message, voicemail, and—in the United States and Canada—a booking request.

Missed calls and the 20-second rule
For a missed call during business hours, the caller must remain connected for more than 20 seconds to meet the qualifying missed-call condition. If the business phone system uses an IVR that asks the caller to press a key, the timer starts after the caller’s first keypress. A caller who hangs up before pressing a required key is not charged under that rule. Configured business hours matter, so compare the event time with the hours set for the business.
An answered call is assessed as an answered call, not simply by how long the phone rang before it was picked up. When reviewing a disputed event, distinguish an unanswered call from one that was answered, routed through an IVR, or reached voicemail; those details affect how the interaction should be evaluated.
For example, a missed call lasting 25 seconds during configured business hours may meet the time condition, assuming any required IVR keypress occurred. A caller who disconnects before pressing the key does not meet that missed-call rule, even if the phone system’s total elapsed time seems long. Conversely, the 20-second missed-call test should not be applied as though it were the universal test for an answered call. When the event details are unclear, note what the call record shows and include that context if you submit feedback, a dispute or a support request.
Messages, voicemail, bookings and repeat contact
Messages and voicemail can qualify as leads when they relate to the advertiser’s business or offered services. Google lists booking requests as valid lead examples for advertisers in the United States and Canada; do not assume that this example applies in every country.
A follow-up call or message from the same phone number or email is not automatically a second billable lead. Google says repeat contact is not charged again when there is interaction within 15 days of the charged lead. When two records look alike, compare the contact details and timing before treating them as separate charges.
The relevant test is not simply whether two records look similar in the inbox: check whether the phone number or email is the same and whether the interaction took place within the 15-day period after the charged lead. If the records involve different contact details, or the timing falls outside that window, do not assume the repeat-contact rule applies. Use the lead details and current charge status to decide whether to give feedback or pursue a dispute.
Choose feedback or a formal dispute
Lead feedback and a dispute serve different purposes. Feedback tells Google about the quality or relevance of a lead and may help improve future matching. A dispute is the formal route for a lead you believe is invalid, subject to account-specific eligibility.

| Situation | First action | What to expect | Important limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Poor-quality or unwanted lead | Open the lead, select Rate this lead, and complete the Lead Feedback Survey. | Feedback informs Google and may sometimes result in a credit. | Feedback does not guarantee a credit; credit availability varies by geography and vertical. |
| Lead believed to be invalid | Use the lead dispute workflow in the account and answer its eligibility questions. | A successful, eligible dispute is credited. | Google’s dispute introduction says disputes are available in the United States and Canada, and are not available for healthcare verticals. Check the current account flow rather than assuming eligibility. |
| Expected leads not arriving | Check campaign activity, schedule, hours, targeting, alerts and budget. | These settings can explain limited ad delivery. | Disputes and feedback address lead records, not campaign delivery. |
| Report total does not match expectation | Compare the date range, channel, charge status and credits. | Reports show lead counts, spend and credits for the selected period and available dimensions. | A specific private account event may still require support. |
Understand credit eligibility and timing
Google may reassess charged leads and automatically credit ones it later determines are poor quality, duplicate or invalid. Automatic credit availability has specific exclusions: Google says automated credits are unavailable for healthcare verticals, tax specialists and advertisers in EMEA; another Google help page says automatic credits are unavailable for EEA accounts. EMEA and EEA are different geographic terms, so do not treat one statement as a substitute for the other. The applicable limit depends on the credit program and account eligibility.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Google also says it no longer supports automated credits for “job type not serviced” and “geo not serviced.” These automated-credit exclusions are not the same as the dispute rules. Check the current account-specific workflow before relying on a credit or assuming an issue qualifies for a dispute. The successful-dispute guidance specifically identifies the United States and Canada and excludes healthcare verticals.
Where an automatic credit is available, Google says it is applied to the account balance within 30 days in most cases. That is a typical window, not a guaranteed resolution deadline for every lead or dispute.
In practice, start with the route that matches the problem rather than submitting feedback and assuming it is a dispute. Rate a lead when it was unwanted or poor quality; use the dispute flow when you believe the charge is invalid and the account presents the option. The survey may sometimes result in a credit and can inform future matching, but it does not guarantee that Google will reverse a specific charge. Likewise, the published credit limits describe different programs and should not be collapsed into one eligibility rule: automated credits and successful disputes have different stated restrictions.
When leads stop arriving, troubleshoot delivery
An empty or quiet inbox can mean the ad is not serving, rather than that reports have lost leads. Local Services ads do not appear on every search; appearance depends in part on budget and competition. Searching for your own ad is not a reliable delivery test. Google’s guidance puts it plainly: “Your Local Services ad won’t appear every time you search for it.”

- Confirm the account and campaign are active. Check that the campaign is live rather than paused, inactive or under review, and that the ad is approved and toggled on.
- Check schedule and business hours. Confirm the ad schedule covers the times you intend to receive leads and that configured business hours match actual availability.
- Review location targeting. Make sure the targeted area is not so restrictive that it prevents relevant customers from seeing the ad.
- Clear account and billing alerts. Review account notices and billing issues that could affect serving.
- Check remaining budget and spend. In Reports, review the Budget spent card and the monthly limit. A campaign approaching its budget limit may slow or stop delivery.
These checks apply to Local Services ads. Google Ads campaigns such as Search or Performance Max have separate troubleshooting paths, so do not use this checklist as a diagnosis for those campaign types.

If activity has dropped rather than stopped completely, check the account and campaign before assuming every missing lead is a reporting error. A campaign can be active but constrained by its schedule, targeting, budget or competition. Compare the period in which leads slowed with the Budget spent card and monthly limit, and review any account or billing notices. Then verify that the intended service area and business hours still match the customers you hope to reach. These checks can identify settings that limit delivery, but they cannot guarantee a particular ad will appear on a particular search.
Check call routing and notifications
Calls shown on a Local Services ad use a Google forwarding number that routes to the business number. The tracking number is dynamic, so it may not be the same number every time. Do not assume that a call is missing solely because a caller’s number or the displayed tracking number looks unfamiliar.
The “Call from Google” audio notification may not be heard when call forwarding or VoIP is configured. Check the lead inbox for the call record rather than relying only on that sound as proof that a call arrived. Use the desktop inbox to find lead details and review calls. Recording availability varies by location and vertical, so an unavailable recording does not by itself establish that the lead record or charge is wrong.
When checking a suspected call, use the lead record as the starting point and compare its date, call details and charge status with the reporting period. An audio notification is a convenience, not the account record: forwarding or VoIP can prevent the “Call from Google” cue from being heard. Similarly, because the forwarding number is dynamic, a caller ID or number that differs from one you expected does not alone show that the interaction came from a separate lead or that it was lost.

If the lead remains absent, or the charge still cannot be reconciled after checking dates, filters, channels, statuses, lead rules, delivery and eligibility, contact Local Services Ads support through the account. Public help pages cannot show what happened to a particular account’s private call, lead event or billing record. Google’s public guidance reviewed here does not set a universal resolution time for account-specific support cases.
When describing the problem, include enough detail for support to locate the event and compare it with the report:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- The event date and approximate time.
- The channel involved: call, message or booking.
- Any lead record or call details visible in the inbox.
- The report date range and any filters applied.
- The Charge Status and any credit amount shown.
- For a call, relevant routing details such as whether it was answered, reached voicemail or passed through an IVR.
Keep the issue framed as either a missing record, a report mismatch, a lead-quality or charge dispute, or a delivery problem. That makes it clearer which evidence and account workflow apply.

Before contacting support, capture the exact period and view you compared so that the issue is reproducible: for example, whether the lead list included all channels, whether the report was filtered to charged leads, and whether a credit appeared. For a call, include the relevant routing facts rather than only saying that it rang or that no notification played. If there is no lead record to provide, share the event date, approximate time and channel, plus the report period and account details needed to locate it. Do not expect a public rule to settle a private account discrepancy; support may need to inspect account data.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my lead missing from Google Local Services Ads?
First check the Leads inbox for the correct business account, date range and channel, then compare that same period in Reports. Check filters and charge status too: a report showing all leads received may not match a charged-leads view, and credits are tracked separately. If the event still does not appear, contact Local Services Ads support through the account with the date, approximate time, channel and report period.
Why am I not getting leads from Local Services Ads?
Treat this as a delivery issue until you have reason to think a record is missing. Confirm the account and campaign are active, the ad is approved and on, and the schedule, business hours and location targeting are appropriate. Review account or billing alerts and the Reports Budget spent card and monthly limit. Ads do not appear on every search, so searching for your own ad is not a reliable test.
Why was I charged for a missed call?
A missed call can qualify if it occurred during configured business hours and the caller stayed connected for more than 20 seconds. If an IVR requires a keypress, the timer starts after the first keypress; a caller who hangs up before pressing it is not charged under that missed-call rule. An answered call is assessed differently, so check the call details and status before judging the charge.
How do I dispute a Local Services Ads lead?
Open the lead and use the account’s lead dispute workflow, then answer its eligibility questions. Google’s dispute guidance says successful disputes are credited in the United States and Canada and that healthcare disputes are unavailable. Eligibility is account-specific, so do not assume a credit before checking the flow. For an unwanted or poor-quality lead, use Rate this lead and the Lead Feedback Survey instead; feedback is not a guaranteed credit.
Why is a lead still on my invoice after it was credited?
The original charge can remain visible on the invoice after a credit is applied. Check the lead’s Charge Status and the account balance or credit reporting for the credit. Google says credits are applied to the account balance within 30 days in most cases; the invoice line alone does not prove that the credit failed.
Will a repeat call or message from the same customer be charged again?
Google says follow-up calls or messages from the same phone number or email are not charged again when there is interaction within 15 days of the charged lead. Compare the contact details and timing in the lead records before treating similar-looking records as separate charges.
