If a Minecraft world is missing on Switch 2, first identify which Switch edition created it: legacy Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition, the later Bedrock version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch, or a Switch 2 beta. The game upgrade, Nintendo’s console save transfer, and conversion from legacy Minecraft are separate processes; completing one does not guarantee the others.
Minecraft announced the native Switch 2 version for October 27, 2026. Its October 7 announcement says owners of the digital Switch version can pre-order the digital Standard Edition upgrade free in most territories through the end of January 2027, with prices of 100 JPY in Japan and 30 NTD in Taiwan. Those terms concern the game license, not whether a particular world will transfer. Minecraft’s Switch 2 announcement and upgrade details provide the published terms.
Identify what needs fixing
“Upgrade” can mean buying the Switch 2 game, moving a console’s save data, or converting a world made in an older Minecraft edition. Start with the world’s source edition and the action you attempted.

If a legacy Switch world is missing
Minecraft’s historical FAQ for the Bedrock version of the Switch game describes this route for worlds in the old Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition: launch Bedrock, open the worlds list, choose Sync Old Worlds, and select a detected world to convert. The FAQ was published in 2018, so treat these steps as historical guidance rather than a promise about Switch 2 menus or post-launch behavior. Read Minecraft’s Nintendo Switch FAQ.
- Confirm that the world was created in legacy Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition, rather than the later Bedrock release.
- Open the Bedrock version and check the worlds list for Sync Old Worlds.
- If a world is detected, select it and follow the conversion prompt shown in the game.
- If the option or world is absent, do not assume reinstalling or buying the Switch 2 edition will restore it. Check the current Minecraft support guidance for your edition and contact support if needed.
If you are moving console save data to Switch 2
Nintendo’s System Transfer is a console-level mechanism for transferring save data and settings. Follow Nintendo’s current instructions for your region and the transfer method available to you; Nintendo notes that details can depend on the method and registration status. - Use Nintendo’s System Transfer guide for your territory and follow its preparation and transfer steps.
- After transfer, open the appropriate Minecraft edition and check its worlds list.
- If the world remains missing, determine whether it needs the legacy-to-Bedrock conversion path; do not treat console transfer and edition conversion as interchangeable.
If the Switch 2 upgrade purchase is unavailable
Minecraft’s October 7, 2026 announcement describes a digital Standard Edition upgrade offer for owners of the digital Nintendo Switch version. It is available through Nintendo eShop in most territories through the end of January 2027; the announced price exceptions are 100 JPY in Japan and 30 NTD in Taiwan. Check the Nintendo Account and eShop region associated with the digital purchase, and verify the current offer displayed in the store. What beta reports do—and do not—tell you
A Minecraft Feedback community post dated August 17, 2026, describes a beta user whose older worlds did not appear directly for transfer and who used a Bedrock intermediate step. The post also reports that beta worlds did not transfer back to the main version. This is an anecdotal, unverified report about beta behavior, not official support guidance or confirmation of how the released game behaves. Read the community post.
As of the announcements and support information cited here, there is no official end-to-end Switch 2 recovery procedure established for every Minecraft world that remains missing after migration. Use the instructions for the world’s source edition and Nintendo’s console-transfer guidance for the distinct task of moving console data.
