If Meta AI cannot help you sign in, first identify which service is actually blocked. Facebook and Instagram account recovery is handled through Meta’s recovery flow and in-app or Help Center support. A missing WhatsApp verification code is different: WhatsApp requires access to the phone number, so a mobile carrier must restore the number or issue a replacement SIM. Meta AI support is still rolling out by country, platform and case, so its absence does not mean your account is unrecoverable.
Identify the service before trying to recover it
“Meta AI can’t access my account” can describe several unrelated problems. The correct recovery route depends on whether you are locked out of Facebook or Instagram, waiting for a WhatsApp phone code, signing in to a Meta Account used with Quest or AI glasses, or trying to enter an organization-managed account.

A carrier can restore a telephone number or SIM, but it cannot reset a Facebook password, remove an Instagram restriction or approve a Meta account recovery. Conversely, Meta’s recovery tools cannot make a carrier deliver a WhatsApp code to a number you no longer possess.
Recover a Facebook or Instagram account
Begin with the recovery option shown for the affected Facebook or Instagram account, even if Meta AI support is not visible. Meta says the updated recovery experience uses signals such as familiar devices and locations and may offer optional selfie-video verification. Which checks appear is determined by the account and the risk signals in that case.

Use the official recovery flow
- Open Facebook or Instagram on a device and network you have used before, if possible.
- On the sign-in screen, choose the option for a forgotten password, trouble logging in, a hacked account or another matching problem.
- Enter the username, email address or phone number associated with the account. Select the correct account if more than one result appears.
- Complete the verification method Meta displays. It may involve a recognized device or location, a code sent to an available contact method, or another identity check.
- If Meta offers selfie-video verification, follow the in-app instructions in good lighting and submit only through the official flow.
- After access is restored, change the password, review logged-in sessions and remove unfamiliar contact details or devices.
Do not abandon recovery because an AI assistant does not appear. Meta’s support-assistant announcement says it is designed to help resolve account problems “from start to finish,” but that describes Meta’s intended function, not a guarantee that every locked account can be recovered through the assistant.
If you can sign in but cannot find Meta AI support
Meta says the assistant is available only in countries and territories where Meta AI is available on Facebook and Instagram. It can appear in the iOS and Android apps and in the desktop Help Center. Login-help access began with selected cases in the United States and Canada and is being expanded gradually. A missing assistant can therefore reflect location, platform, rollout stage or case eligibility rather than a fault with your account.
Use the support entry points that are actually displayed in your app or Help Center. Do not search for a universal Meta telephone number: the official material does not establish one for ordinary consumer account recovery, and availability of a human agent is not promised.

When you cannot get a Facebook or Instagram login code
A login-code failure is still a Meta account-recovery issue, not a WhatsApp carrier problem. Work through the recovery choices in the order offered for your account.
- Check whether the code is being sent to an old email address, phone number or authenticator method. If you still control another listed method, select it instead.
- Try the recovery flow from a familiar phone, browser and location. Meta says these signals can help its updated system assess the request.
- Check spam, junk and blocked-message folders for an email or SMS. Make sure the phone has service and that short-code messages are not blocked by the carrier.
- Use the option to try another method rather than repeatedly requesting codes that are not arriving.
- If the flow offers selfie-video verification or another identity check, complete that check inside Facebook or Instagram.
Never give a login code or password to someone who contacts you claiming to be support. Once you regain access, enable two-factor authentication and run Security Checkup so you can replace outdated recovery details before the next lockout.

Fix a WhatsApp verification code that never arrives
WhatsApp phone verification is tied to the account’s telephone number. Meta AI cannot substitute for that verification, and a Facebook recovery flow will not deliver a WhatsApp code.
Request the code correctly
- Open WhatsApp and enter the complete telephone number with the correct country code.
- Confirm that the number is active on the phone receiving the request and that the phone can receive ordinary SMS messages or calls.
- Request the SMS code once. If the app offers a phone-call option, use it only after that option becomes available.
- Wait until the countdown or retry timer finishes before requesting another code.
- Enter only the code delivered by WhatsApp. Do not guess combinations or use a code sent for a previous request.
WhatsApp’s guidance specifically warns against guessing verification codes. Repeated attempts can extend the waiting period; the timer is the indication that another request is permitted.
If SMS does not arrive but you still control the number
- Verify the country code and number digit by digit.
- Move to an area with reliable cellular service and disable filters that block unknown or short-code messages.
- Check whether call screening, voicemail or a corporate phone system is preventing the automated call option.
- Wait for the displayed period and then use the available SMS or voice retry route.
If ordinary SMS and calls work but WhatsApp still does not present a code after the permitted retries, use WhatsApp’s official in-app help route. Keep the number active while the case is being handled; changing or cancelling the line can make verification impossible.
What to do when you lost the phone number or SIM
When you no longer control the number linked to WhatsApp, contact the mobile provider that issued it. WhatsApp instructs users to request a replacement SIM for the same number, where the carrier can provision one, or to change the WhatsApp number to a number they control.
Option 1: Replace the SIM and keep the number
- Ask the carrier for a replacement SIM or eSIM for the existing telephone number.
- Complete the carrier’s identity and account checks. Only the carrier can decide whether the number can be reissued.
- Install the replacement SIM or eSIM, confirm that it receives SMS or calls, and request WhatsApp verification again.
- After signing in, review WhatsApp’s linked devices and enable available account-protection features.
Option 2: Change the WhatsApp number
If the old number cannot be recovered, use WhatsApp’s Change Number feature while you still have access to the WhatsApp account, if that is possible. Follow the app’s prompts to enter the old and new numbers and verify the new number. The new number must be able to receive the verification SMS or call.

Email alone does not replace access to the associated WhatsApp number in this situation. A carrier can restore that number, but it cannot recover a Meta password or override an account restriction.
Understand Meta Account and WhatsApp separation
Meta Account is being rolled out gradually across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads, Meta AI, AI glasses and Meta Quest. WhatsApp can remain separate unless it was previously added to Meta Account or you elect to add it. That means a successful Facebook or Instagram login does not automatically solve a WhatsApp number-verification problem, and losing a WhatsApp SIM does not necessarily mean your Facebook account is locked.
For an AI-glasses or Quest sign-in, select the recovery path for the Meta Account shown by that product. Keep the product’s account, the Facebook or Instagram profile and the WhatsApp number distinct while diagnosing the failure. Combining them in one support request can send you to the wrong verification method.
Organization-managed accounts need an administrator
Meta for Work accounts are administered separately from ordinary consumer Facebook and Instagram accounts. If your employer or school provided the login, verify that you are using the organization-managed account and its approved sign-in method.
- If you have a managed account, follow your organization’s identity, password-reset and device policies.
- If you do not have a managed account, Meta for Work directs you to the relevant product Help Center rather than a managed-account support route.
- If you believe your organization should have granted access, contact its IT team or account administrator.
A consumer Meta recovery flow cannot create an organization-managed account or bypass your employer’s access controls.

Why Meta AI may not solve the problem
Meta’s support assistant and recovery features have several eligibility boundaries:
- Location: the assistant is tied to countries and territories where Meta AI is available on Facebook and Instagram.
- Platform: the feature may appear in the iOS or Android apps or the desktop Help Center, but not necessarily on every surface at the same time.
- Rollout: login-help access began with selected cases in the United States and Canada and is expanding gradually.
- Case eligibility: Meta may expose different recovery checks, including familiar-device recognition or selfie-video verification, depending on the account.
- Service boundary: the assistant is not a carrier and cannot issue a SIM or restore a telephone number.
Meta reported that its support assistant typically responds in under five seconds. That is a response-time description, not a promise that the account will be recovered in five seconds or that every request will receive the same result.
Secure the account after recovery
Recovery is not complete until you remove the conditions that caused the lockout or could let an attacker take over again.
- Set a unique password that you do not reuse on another service.
- Review recent login activity and sign out unfamiliar sessions.
- Confirm that the recovery email address and phone number are yours and current.
- Enable two-factor authentication using an available method and store backup codes privately.
- Run Security Checkup and review connected apps, pages, business integrations and linked devices.
- For WhatsApp, inspect linked devices and remove anything you do not recognize.
- Keep control of the telephone number used for WhatsApp verification; update the WhatsApp number before giving up an old line.
Support staff, carriers and legitimate automated systems should not ask you to publish a password or forward a one-time code. Treat any request for those details as a potential takeover attempt.

What Meta’s published figures do and do not show
In a 2025 account-support announcement updated in 2026, Meta reported more than 30% fewer new account hacks globally on Facebook and Instagram over the prior year, and a relative increase of more than 30% in hacked-account recovery success in the United States and Canada in that year. These are Meta-reported figures, not independently verified measurements, and they do not predict the result for an individual account.

Meta’s statements describe the capabilities and rollout of its tools. They do not establish that the assistant can recover every locked account, that every user can reach a human agent, or that a universal consumer support phone channel exists.
A practical decision path
- Facebook or Instagram cannot be opened: use that account’s official recovery flow, complete the verification method shown and continue even if Meta AI support is absent.
- You can open the account but cannot find the assistant: check the app or desktop Help Center and recognize that location, platform, rollout and case eligibility control availability.
- WhatsApp requests a code: verify the full number and country code, request SMS or a call, and wait for the timer before trying again.
- You no longer control the WhatsApp number: ask the carrier for a replacement SIM with the same number or change the WhatsApp number to one you control.
- The login belongs to an employer or school: use the organization’s IT team and the relevant Meta for Work product Help Center.
- Access is restored: change the password, enable two-factor authentication, run Security Checkup and inspect active sessions and linked devices.
