In practice, those descriptions cover more than a marker that simply fails to appear: the reported issue might be that the game does not register a completed task, a character does not behave as expected, or a mission event fails to trigger. The notes describe categories of reported issues, but do not provide affected-player counts or guarantee that every previously affected save will repair itself.

The patch notes are not a promise of a universal fix or a complete bug list. They do not specify which exact checkpoint, cutscene, NPC, or waypoint issue will be resolved in every case. Nor do they give a success rate or confirm that a save that encountered a bug before updating will automatically correct its mission state. Use the update as the first step because it addresses relevant reported problems, then treat any remaining blockage as a separate issue to document.
Work through these steps before changing your save

Identify the version and the section that is stuck
Note your platform, whether you are playing the base game or Definitive Edition, and whether the blocked section is in the main campaign or DLC. Record the mission name and the exact objective text shown on screen. Also note what is wrong: the objective does not complete, the waypoint is absent or misplaced, a checkpoint reload returns to the same blockage, a cutscene does not advance, or an NPC does not behave as needed. It is useful to separate what you expected to happen from what the game actually displayed or did. For example, record whether the objective wording changed after the task, whether a marker appeared, and whether the same behavior returned after reloading. Re-enter the mission and follow the displayed objective
After updating, load the mission and check the current objective wording and waypoint rather than relying only on memory of the previous step. If the marker appears in a different place than expected, use the in-game objective and marker as your guide. The update announcement confirms that missing or incorrectly placed waypoints and objectives still shown as incomplete were among reported issues, but it does not specify a universal in-game workaround for each one.
Check whether the game has registered the action you just completed before repeating it or moving on based solely on what you remember. A task may appear finished to you while the objective remains marked incomplete; the update specifically names that kind of objective-state issue. If the displayed instruction itself seems unclear or the waypoint is missing, capture the wording and note the marker status. The official notes do not provide a hidden button sequence or alternate route that can be recommended for every such situation.

Try the latest checkpoint, then restart the game if needed
If the objective still will not advance, reload the most recent checkpoint and see whether the game registers the current mission state. If that does not help, close and restart the game, then retry. These are low-risk troubleshooting attempts, not officially verified solutions for every stuck objective or save. The update notes report better checkpoint reload behavior, but do not promise that a checkpoint retry or restart will repair a persistent blocker.
After trying a checkpoint, pay attention to whether it restores you before the blocked action, at the same point, or somewhere else in the mission; do not assume a particular result is guaranteed. If the same issue remains, avoid repeatedly cycling through steps without recording what happened. A single clear account—what you tried and what the game did next—is more useful when deciding whether to contact support than an assumption that reloading must fix the save.

Include your platform, installed game version if visible, edition, mission and exact objective wording, whether a waypoint appears, and what happens after reloading the latest checkpoint or restarting. Describe the issue in observable terms rather than labeling it only as “stuck.” For instance, say that the displayed objective remains incomplete after the task, that no waypoint is visible, or that a cutscene does not continue; include what you expected to happen and what occurred after the update and checkpoint attempt. If you do not know the installed version, say so instead of guessing. 2K’s FAQ provides a support-request route, and its update guidance is to connect and download patches. It does not promise a particular response time or a guaranteed save repair.

Platform and edition details to keep in mind

Stealth choices and lieutenant loyalty can affect gameplay or the narrative experience, according to 2K’s FAQ. The FAQ does not connect those variables to the progression blockers named in the patch notes, so do not treat a particular play style or loyalty decision as an established cause of a stuck objective. What not to do first
- Do not delete your save as an initial troubleshooting step. The official materials do not identify save deletion as a fix, and deleting a save can put progress at risk.

There is no published statistic in the update notes for how common these bugs are, how many players are affected, or how often a checkpoint retry succeeds. Will updating automatically unstick a save that was already blocked?
The update notes do not guarantee that every previously affected save will repair itself. Install any update your platform offers, check the displayed objective, and cautiously try the latest checkpoint. If the blocker remains, record what happened and contact 2K Support.
