Switching to Windows is not, by itself, an established cause of Apple Continuity failures. The reliable fix is to identify the feature that stopped working—Handoff, Continuity Camera, calls, or texts—then verify that feature’s Apple Account, network, Bluetooth, proximity, settings, compatibility, and permission requirements.
The checks below separate the shared requirements from the feature-specific ones, so you can restore the iPhone–Mac connection without treating Windows as the diagnosis.
Why the problem may appear after moving to Windows
Continuity is Apple’s group of features for using an iPhone, Mac, iPad, and other Apple devices together. Apple documents prerequisites for each feature, but the cited guidance does not establish that installing or switching to Windows causes Continuity to stop working. A change of computer can coincide with a signed-out Mac, a disabled setting, a different network, an incompatible operating-system update, or a device being farther away. Those are the conditions to test.

Start by naming the exact symptom. “My iPhone and Mac no longer connect” is too broad because Handoff, an iPhone webcam, phone calls, and text forwarding use overlapping but different checks. Apple’s general overview is available in Use Continuity to work across Apple devices.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Match the symptom to the right requirements
| Feature | What it does | Requirements and limits | Extra setting or test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Handoff | Continue an activity started on one Apple device on another nearby device. | Same Apple Account, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Handoff enabled on both devices, compatible hardware and software, a Handoff-capable app, and proximity. Apple’s Handoff instructions specify a maximum distance of 10 metres (30 feet). | Enable Handoff in the Mac and iPhone settings paths shown below. |
| Continuity Camera | Use the iPhone as a Mac webcam or microphone. | Compatible devices and operating systems, the same Apple Account, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for the wireless route, and nearby devices. A VPN that blocks local networking can interfere. | It can work wirelessly or through USB. A wired test may require trust or accessory permission. |
| Calls on Mac | Place or receive iPhone calls from the Mac. | Same Apple Account, Wi-Fi, compatible devices and settings, and devices within 30 feet (10 metres) according to Apple’s guidance. | Check the iPhone setting that allows calls on other devices. |
| Text messages on Mac | Show and send iPhone text messages from the Mac. | Same Apple Account, Wi-Fi, compatible devices and settings, and the devices within 30 feet (10 metres). | Review Apple’s text-message forwarding setting and instructions. |
Do not infer compatibility from one feature working. A Mac and iPhone may support calls but not a newer Continuity capability, or an operating-system update may change what is supported. Check the requirements for the exact device models and operating-system versions in the relevant Apple guide.
Run these shared checks first
- Confirm the Apple Account. On both the iPhone and Mac, verify that the signed-in Apple Account is the same account. A different account can make a device appear connected to the internet while preventing Continuity authentication.
- Confirm the wireless connection. Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the devices when the feature requires them. Connecting the Mac to the internet while Wi-Fi is disabled can still leave Handoff or Continuity Camera unavailable.
- Bring the devices together. Place the iPhone and Mac close to each other. The Apple instructions use a 10-metre (30-foot) proximity limit for the cited features; test at close range rather than from another room.
- Check the feature’s own control. Continuity is not one master switch. Handoff, calls, text forwarding, and Continuity Camera each have their own setting or eligibility condition.
- Check model and operating-system support. Use the Apple support page for the specific feature and your device/OS combination. Do not assume that every iPhone–Mac pair supports every Continuity feature.
- Look for local-network interference. If a VPN configuration prevents local networking, it can stop some Continuity features even while ordinary web browsing works. Temporarily test with that local-network blocking condition removed, subject to your organization’s security policy.
- Check whether another Continuity feature is active. Continuity Camera can fail when iPhone Mirroring or another Continuity feature is already using the devices. End the competing session and test again.
A more precise diagnostic sequence
Use one change at a time so the result identifies the failed prerequisite. First record what you expected to happen and what actually happened: no Handoff icon, no iPhone camera in the app selector, no call option, or missing text messages. Then confirm the same Apple Account before changing network settings. Next test with both devices beside one another, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled, and the relevant feature switch on.
If the feature appears only when the devices are close, distance was the practical limit. If it appears but cannot complete an activity, check the app, forwarding control, or compatibility rule for that feature. If it never appears wirelessly but works over USB, investigate Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VPN local-network restrictions, or a competing Continuity session. If neither wireless nor wired testing works for Continuity Camera, concentrate on device support, the cable and ports, and the authorization prompts.
Documenting each result also prevents a common mistake: changing the Apple Account, network, and settings together and then not knowing which change helped. Windows may be part of the timeline, but this controlled sequence tests the iPhone–Mac requirements Apple actually describes.
Fix Handoff when work will not continue between devices
Handoff is the feature that lets you begin an activity on one Apple device and pick it up on another nearby device. Apple describes it this way: “With Handoff, you can start work on one Apple device, then switch to another nearby device and pick up where you left off.” The current Apple instructions are in Use Handoff to continue tasks on your other Apple devices.
Enable Handoff on the Mac
On current macOS releases, open System Settings > General > AirDrop & Continuity and turn on Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices. Some versions label the pane AirDrop & Handoff instead. The label can vary by macOS version, so use the equivalent Handoff control rather than looking for an exact word-for-word match.
Enable Handoff on the iPhone
Open Settings > General > AirPlay & Continuity (on some iOS versions, AirPlay & Handoff) and turn on Handoff. The iPhone and Mac must use the same Apple Account, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth available.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Test with a supported app
Handoff only appears for an app that supports Handoff. Open a supported activity on the first device, keep the devices nearby, and look for the Handoff option on the second device. If the Handoff indicator never appears, test a different supported app before concluding that the connection is broken. If it appears but the activity will not open, check device and operating-system compatibility for that app and feature.
Handoff pitfalls to avoid
- Do not test from beyond Apple’s 10-metre (30-foot) limit and then diagnose the account as broken.
- Do not use a non-supporting app as the only test; Handoff is app-dependent.
- Do not assume that turning on Wi-Fi for internet access is enough if Bluetooth is disabled.
- Do not treat a different menu label as a missing feature. Search Settings for “Handoff” when the path differs on your release.
Restore Continuity Camera (iPhone as a Mac webcam or microphone)
Continuity Camera has two connection paths: wireless and USB. The wireless path depends on the shared account, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, proximity, and compatible devices. Apple’s detailed instructions are at Use your iPhone as a webcam on Mac.
Choose the iPhone in the Mac app
In the video-conferencing or camera-enabled Mac app, open its camera or microphone selector and choose the iPhone. Keep the iPhone close, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled, and make sure no other Continuity feature is occupying it. If the iPhone does not appear, work through the shared checks before changing app-specific permissions.
Use the physical setup Apple expects
Position the iPhone securely in landscape orientation so its cameras have a stable view. A stand or mount is optional; the important requirement is a stable position that keeps the phone close enough for the Mac to use it. There is no need to buy a particular brand or model. Choose a mount that safely holds your specific iPhone if your setup needs one.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Try a wired connection
Connect the iPhone to the Mac with a cable that matches the ports on both devices. When the iPhone asks “Trust This Computer?”, approve it. If the Mac displays “Allow accessory to connect?”, allow the connection. These prompts are part of the wired authorization path; dismissing them can make a sound cable appear ineffective.
A cable is an optional troubleshooting or operating method, not a universal requirement. Select one that physically fits the iPhone and Mac ports; the appropriate connector depends on the devices you own. If the wired route works while wireless does not, concentrate on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VPN local-network restrictions, proximity, and competing Continuity sessions. If neither route works, recheck compatibility and the exact camera-selection control in the Mac app.
Continuity Camera interference checks
Check whether iPhone Mirroring or another Continuity feature is already using the iPhone. End that session before testing the camera. Also examine any VPN configuration that blocks local networking. A VPN can leave normal internet browsing intact while preventing the local device discovery Continuity Camera needs. If the Mac belongs to an employer, follow its security policy rather than disabling a required VPN without authorization.

Fix calls and text messages on the Mac
Calls
Calls on the Mac require the iPhone and Mac to use the same Apple Account and Wi-Fi, with the devices within Apple’s cited 30-foot (10-metre) range. Check the iPhone control that allows calls on other devices, then verify that the Mac is signed in to the same account. If the Mac is on a different account, changing unrelated Windows settings will not restore call continuity.

If calls remain unavailable, verify that the Mac and iPhone models and operating systems meet the current calls-on-other-devices requirements. A working Handoff session does not prove that every calling requirement is satisfied.
Text messages
Text messages use the same-account and Wi-Fi foundation, plus Apple’s message-forwarding setting. On the iPhone, review the text-message forwarding controls and ensure the Mac is selected. Follow Apple’s current instructions in Use iPhone to allow calls and text messages on your iPad and Mac.
Distinguish ordinary iMessage conversations from carrier SMS/MMS forwarding when checking the symptom. If only carrier text messages are missing, the forwarding setting is the relevant branch; if calls and all messages are missing, return to the shared Apple Account, Wi-Fi, proximity, and compatibility checks. Do not assume that a Mac receiving iMessages means carrier text-message forwarding is configured.
If the iPhone will not connect to the Mac at all
Use a controlled sequence instead of changing several settings at once:
Recommended Free Tools
- Write down the failed action: Handoff, camera, microphone, calls, or texts.
- Check the Apple Account shown on both devices.
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth where the feature requires them.
- Move the devices next to each other and test again.
- Open the feature-specific control and confirm it is enabled.
- Check the device and operating-system requirements for that exact feature.
- For Continuity Camera, test a port-compatible USB cable and accept both trust or accessory prompts.
- If a VPN is installed, determine whether its configuration blocks local networking; do not bypass an employer’s security policy without authorization.
- Close any iPhone Mirroring or other Continuity session that could be using the iPhone, then retry the intended feature.
- For text problems, verify the Mac is selected in the iPhone’s text-message forwarding control.
- For calling problems, verify the iPhone option that allows calls on other devices.
This sequence tells you which requirement is failing. For example, a wired camera connection that succeeds after approving Trust This Computer? points to authorization rather than a Windows-related fault; a Handoff indicator that appears only when devices are close points to proximity; and missing carrier texts with working iMessages points toward forwarding rather than a total account failure.
Account, settings, and version labels can look different
Apple changes menu names and locations between iOS and macOS releases. The Handoff controls may appear as AirDrop & Continuity or AirDrop & Handoff on the Mac, and as AirPlay & Continuity or AirPlay & Handoff on the iPhone. Search Settings for “Handoff,” “Continuity,” “calls on other devices,” or “text message forwarding” if the displayed path differs.

Do not use a setting’s presence as proof that your hardware is eligible. Apple’s feature pages state requirements by device and operating-system combination, and those requirements are not identical across Handoff, Continuity Camera, calls, and texts. Record the exact model and OS shown on each device before comparing them with Apple’s feature page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Optional hardware and cost considerations
Most of the fixes are settings and connection checks, not paid software. A stable iPhone stand or mount is an optional purchase for Continuity Camera because Apple expects the phone to remain stable in landscape orientation. A USB cable is another optional item for a wired camera test or ongoing wired use. The cable must match the ports on the particular iPhone and Mac, so buying a connector before checking those ports risks getting the wrong accessory. No particular brand or connector can be recommended without the device models, and the cited Apple guidance does not establish a required price.
Do not spend money on a system-cleaning utility as a first response. The documented checks concern Apple Account sign-in, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, proximity, compatibility, permissions, forwarding, VPN local networking, and cable authorization. Resolve those conditions before considering hardware.
When to use Apple’s feature-specific instructions
If the shared checks and the feature’s own control are correct, open the Apple article for that exact feature and device/OS combination. Use the Handoff guide for Handoff, the webcam guide for Continuity Camera, and the calls-and-texts guide for forwarding. Those pages are more useful than a generic “iPhone not connecting” checklist because they account for the feature’s compatibility rules and current labels.
The key diagnostic conclusion is narrow: switching to Windows may have happened before the failure, but the documented remedy is to restore the iPhone–Mac Continuity prerequisites. Identify the feature, satisfy its account, network, proximity, settings, compatibility, and permission requirements, and use a wired test where Continuity Camera allows it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Handoff stop working after I switched to Windows?
Switching to Windows is not established as the cause. Check that the iPhone and Mac use the same Apple Account, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on, Handoff is enabled on both devices, the devices are within 10 metres (30 feet), and the app supports Handoff.
Do I need both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for iPhone–Mac features?
For Handoff and wireless Continuity Camera, Apple lists both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Calls and texts also require Wi-Fi. Turn on both radios when the feature’s instructions require them.

How do I get my iPhone camera back on my Mac?
Keep the devices nearby, use the same Apple Account, enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, choose the iPhone in the Mac app’s camera or microphone selector, and close iPhone Mirroring or another competing Continuity session. You can also test a port-compatible USB cable and approve “Trust This Computer?” and “Allow accessory to connect?” prompts.
Why won’t my iPhone connect to my Mac anymore?
Identify the failed feature first. Then verify the shared Apple Account, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, proximity, feature toggle, device and OS compatibility, and any VPN restriction on local networking.
Why are my iPhone texts not showing on my Mac?
Check the same Apple Account and Wi-Fi, then open the iPhone’s text-message forwarding controls and make sure the Mac is selected. Carrier SMS/MMS forwarding can fail even when iMessages still appear.
Why can’t I make iPhone calls from my Mac?
Confirm the same Apple Account, Wi-Fi, compatible devices and software, a distance within 30 feet (10 metres), and the iPhone setting that allows calls on other devices.
Can a VPN break Continuity?
Yes. Apple notes that a VPN configuration preventing local networking can interfere with some Continuity features. Test according to your organization’s security policy rather than disabling a required VPN without authorization.
Does every iPhone and Mac support every Continuity feature?
No. Handoff, Continuity Camera, calls, and texts have different device and operating-system requirements. Check Apple’s guide for the exact models and versions.
Do I need to buy a stand or cable?
No purchase is universally required. A stable landscape stand is optional for Continuity Camera, and a port-compatible USB cable is an optional wired test or connection method. Choose accessories only after checking your devices’ ports.
