To remove an incorrect or unwanted memory, use the Muse agent and plainly tell it to forget the specific detail. Meta says Muse users can also inspect, edit, and download files in the Muse virtual machine, including Muse’s memory about them. Meta has not published a universal button path, memory-file location, command syntax, or guaranteed correction sequence, so treat those controls as documented capabilities rather than a fixed interface.
One distinction matters immediately: Muse Wonder is a model, while Muse is the personal-agent experience that Meta describes as having memory controls. A third-party application calling the Muse Wonder model may not expose the same persistent memory or controls.
What you are actually fixing: Muse memory versus the Muse Wonder model
The phrase “Meta Muse Wonder” combines two related but different products. Meta’s October 12, 2026 announcement describes Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full as frontier models. The accompanying Newsroom announcement says Muse Wonder was available through the Meta Model API and Muse Code, with a rollout to Muse subscribers planned. A model can generate responses without maintaining a personal profile for you.

That announcement says users “can always tell it to ‘forget’ specific things it’s learned.” Therefore, the practical instructions in this guide apply first to the Muse agent surface. They should not be assumed to work in every API client, coding tool, or other product that happens to use a Muse Wonder model.

Meta AI Research calls the agent capability Active Memory: “carrying important context about you across conversations and actively retrieving the details relevant to the task at hand.” That description explains the purpose of memory, but it does not publish a memory database schema, a list of fields, or a promise that every remembered detail is stored in one editable record.
If a response is wrong only because the current conversation contains a mistaken statement, correcting that conversation may be enough. If Muse repeatedly brings the same detail into later conversations, use the forget control or inspect the agent’s files as described below.
First identify which surface has the unwanted information
Before attempting a fix, determine where the behavior occurs. This avoids editing a file that the relevant product never reads or assuming that an API session has the same memory as the Muse agent.

| Muse personal agent | Meta says users can tell Muse to forget specific things it has learned. Meta also says users can inspect and edit files in the Muse virtual machine, including memory about them. | Do not assume a particular menu label, file path, propagation delay, or deletion guarantee; Meta has not published those details in the cited announcements. |
| Muse Wonder through Meta Model API | Muse Wonder is documented as a model available through the Meta Model API and Muse Code. | Do not assume the API client provides Muse’s personal memory, a forget command, or access to the Muse virtual machine. |
| Another application using the model | The model may be embedded in an experience designed by another developer. | Memory storage, retention, editing, and deletion are controlled by that application unless its documentation says otherwise. |
For a quick check, note the product name shown in the interface, whether you are signed in to the Muse agent, and whether the error appears in a fresh conversation. Keep that information when reporting a problem; it helps separate an agent-memory issue from an application-specific prompt, profile, or database.
How to tell Muse to forget one specific detail
Meta’s published control is conversational: tell Muse to “forget” the specific thing it learned. The source does not require an exact phrase, so do not present a sample sentence as a guaranteed command. Clear, narrowly scoped wording is still the safest way to reduce ambiguity.

- Identify the exact statement. Include the detail itself, not only a category. For example, name the incorrect city, dietary restriction, employer, relationship, or preference that Muse keeps repeating.
- State that the detail is unwanted or wrong. Ask Muse to forget that particular information. Keep unrelated corrections out of the same request so you can tell which change succeeded.
- Wait for Muse’s response. The official announcement confirms the control but does not specify a confirmation message or an internal deletion event. Treat a conversational acknowledgment as a response, not as independent proof that every copy has been removed.
- Start a later conversation that would normally use the detail. Ask a neutral question or make a relevant request without restating the incorrect fact. Check whether Muse still relies on it.
- Escalate to file inspection if the behavior continues. Meta says the agent’s virtual-machine files, including its memory about you, can be inspected and edited. Use that option only in the Muse environment and follow the cautions in the next section.
Use one request per detail when accuracy matters. A narrowly worded instruction makes it easier to distinguish “forget my old address” from a broader request such as “forget everything about me,” which could have consequences you did not intend. Because no official command grammar is published, avoid treating punctuation, capitalization, or a particular slash command as mandatory.
How to retain a corrected fact without reintroducing the old one
Forgetting and correcting are separate actions. Meta documents the ability to forget a learned detail; it does not publish a guaranteed workflow for replacing that detail with a new one. If you want Muse to use a corrected fact, handle it as a separate, explicit instruction after asking it to forget the old fact.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Ask Muse to forget the incorrect or unwanted detail.
- In a new, clearly worded statement, provide the information you want it to use instead.
- Ask a later task that genuinely depends on the corrected information, without quoting the old version.
- Repeat the check in another conversation if the fact is important enough to affect decisions.
This is practical verification advice, not a Meta-published guarantee that a replacement will be saved permanently or propagated instantly to every agent component. If Muse continues to use the old version, do not keep adding contradictory statements. Return to the forget request, then inspect the available memory files or contact the product’s support channel with the product surface and observed behavior.
Inspecting and editing Muse’s memory files
In its September 8, 2026 safety article, How We Built Safety Into Muse, Meta states: “You can inspect, edit and download these files freely, including Muse’s memory about you.” This gives advanced users a second route when conversational forgetting does not produce the expected result.
Meta’s public material does not provide an exact directory, filename, editor screen, format, or command sequence. Do not invent a path such as a particular JSON file or claim that deleting one line is sufficient. The available evidence supports the capability, not a universal click-by-click procedure.

A careful file-editing workflow
- Use the Muse agent’s own virtual-machine file controls. Do not edit unrelated local files or an API provider’s storage and assume Muse will read them.
- Inspect before changing anything. Look for the entry that contains the unwanted detail and confirm that it is actually memory about you rather than a task document, conversation transcript, or application configuration.
- Download a backup copy first. Meta says files can be downloaded. Preserve an unchanged copy so you can restore the prior state if an edit causes an unexpected behavior.
- Make the smallest possible edit. Remove or correct only the identified memory entry. Broad deletion can remove useful context and make later troubleshooting harder.
- Save through the supported file interface. Because Meta has not documented a universal format or save command, use the controls exposed in your version of Muse rather than a guessed shell command.
- Reopen or start a fresh conversation if the interface offers that option. This can help you test the saved state, but Meta has not specified when all active processes reload edited files.
- Verify with a relevant task. Test whether Muse still uses the unwanted detail, and record the time, surface, and result if the behavior persists.
Editing files is not automatically the same as erasing every copy of information. A detail could also appear in a conversation, a task artifact, or another application’s storage. The cited safety article supports editing Muse VM files; it does not state that one edit purges all historical data or guarantees immediate behavior changes everywhere.
Why an API integration may not respond to “forget”
The Model API documentation is published at Meta Model API Models documentation. Meta’s announcements establish that Muse Wonder is a model available through that API and Muse Code, while the forget and file-edit descriptions are written about the Muse agent.
An API request may be stateless, may use an application-managed profile, or may maintain memory in storage owned by the developer integrating the model. In those cases, sending the natural-language request “forget this” to the model cannot be assumed to delete a record outside the model’s context. Check the integration’s own documentation for:
- Whether conversations or user profiles persist between requests.
- Where remembered preferences and retrieved documents are stored.
- Which endpoint or setting deletes a profile item or conversation.
- Whether the integration distinguishes model context from long-term memory.
- How deletion is confirmed and how long caches or backups may persist.
If you are the developer of an integration, implement deletion at the layer that stores the memory, then prevent the deleted item from being re-indexed or supplied in future prompts. Muse’s agent-level controls do not establish an API contract for third-party applications.
Do not confuse forgetting a detail with opting out of training
Meta describes a separate privacy setting in Muse. The safety article says users can opt out of using their interactions for model training with a switch in Muse settings. That switch addresses training use; it is not the same operation as asking Muse to forget a personal detail or editing a memory file.

The same article says Muse conversations and virtual-machine data are not shared with Meta ad systems. It also says inference trajectories may be used to train new model checkpoints after personally identifiable information is sanitized. These statements describe data-use and privacy practices, not a promise that a mistaken memory will be removed from the agent.
Use the control that matches your goal:
| Your goal | Relevant action | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Stop Muse from relying on one personal detail | Tell the Muse agent to forget that specific detail; inspect and edit its memory files if needed. | It does not prove that copies in conversations, exports, backups, or another application are erased. |
| Prevent eligible interactions from being used for model training | Use the training opt-out switch in Muse settings described by Meta. | It does not remove an individual memory from the agent. |
| Remove data held by an API integration | Use that integration’s documented account, profile, conversation, or data-deletion controls. | Muse’s agent controls do not automatically govern the integration. |
Troubleshooting when the old memory keeps returning
Muse acknowledges the request but repeats the detail later
Test in a genuinely new conversation without repeating the old fact. If it returns, inspect the Muse VM memory files through the supported interface and look for another entry expressing the same detail. Record whether the repeated statement came from memory, a document you supplied, or the current conversation; those sources require different fixes.
Muse forgets the detail but also loses useful context
Restore the backup you made before editing, then remove only the unwanted entry rather than clearing a whole file. Afterward, provide any essential, non-sensitive context separately and verify it in a later task.
The forget request works in Muse but not in an API client
That difference is consistent with the products having different memory layers. Confirm which service stores the profile and use its deletion mechanism. Do not infer that a model-level response means the client deleted its database record.
You cannot find a memory file
Meta has not published a universal path or filename. Check that you are in the Muse agent’s VM file view rather than a local computer folder, and look for updated interface documentation in the Muse product. If no file controls are exposed in your version, rely on the conversational control and document the result for support.

The unwanted information appears in a generated document
Determine whether the document itself contains the old value. Editing agent memory will not automatically rewrite an already exported file. Correct the document separately, then test whether Muse introduces the old value into future outputs.
You are unsure whether the detail is personal memory or a current instruction
Ask Muse to identify the source it is using, without requesting disclosure of private system instructions. Compare a fresh conversation with one that includes the original material. If the detail appears only when the material is present, remove or correct that source rather than treating it as long-term memory.
What Meta’s current documentation does—and does not—promise
The official material supports three concrete conclusions:
- Muse agent users can tell Muse to forget specific things it has learned.
- Users can inspect, edit, and download Muse virtual-machine files, including memory about them.
- Muse Wonder is a model, while Muse is the agent experience in which these memory controls are described.
It does not establish exact button labels, a universal memory-file path, command syntax, deletion latency, a guaranteed replacement procedure, or identical behavior across all deployments. Meta introduced Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full on October 12, 2026, and said availability was rolling out; interfaces and access can therefore change quickly. The AI at Meta Muse page is the appropriate product-level reference for current availability, while the linked announcements explain the controls and safety context.
Privacy precautions before you edit or download
- Download only to a device and location you control; a memory export may contain sensitive personal information.
- Do not paste a complete memory file into a public forum or support ticket when a redacted excerpt will show the problem.
- Keep the original backup protected and delete it when you no longer need it.
- When reporting a failure, include the product surface, approximate date, and exact behavior rather than unrelated personal details.
- Remember that deleting a memory entry is different from deleting conversation history, exported files, or data held by an integrated service.
These precautions reduce accidental disclosure while you determine whether the problem is in Muse’s Active Memory, a source document, or another service.
