If How to Fish’s Create Session button does nothing, there is no developer-confirmed cause or guaranteed fix for that exact failure. Start with basic Steam and game checks, then report the precise behavior to Dazed Games if it persists. A failed button, a lobby that will not load, a failed invite, a relay warning, and gameplay that stalls are different symptoms; available reports do not establish that they share one cause.
First, identify what is failing
Before changing settings, note exactly where the problem occurs. The August 23, 2026 troubleshooting article describes the title-matching issue as clicking Create Session with no visible lobby response. Steam community reports describe other problems, including gameplay stalling after entering a session and unsuccessful attempts with different visibility settings. Those reports are individual experiences, not confirmation of one common bug or a reliable workaround.
- Create Session appears unresponsive: You click the control and no lobby or visible response appears.
- Lobby or session does not load: A session seems to start, but you cannot proceed into it.
- Invite fails: A Steam invite does not take you to the expected session.
- Steam relay diagnostic is red: The game’s main-menu connection diagnostic flags the Steam relay.
- Gameplay stalls after joining: The session starts, but an in-game sequence such as a boat ride stops progressing.
Recording which of these happens will make troubleshooting and any report more useful.
Where to start a multiplayer session
Dazed Games’ September 13 update says to start a session from the Multiplayer button on the boot menu or the Multiplayer app on the desktop. Hosts can set a session to public or friends only, add a password, and name it. The update does not identify a root cause or fix for an unresponsive Create Session button.

Patch 1.0.5 added an invite-only option called a private lobby and allows session type to be changed in server settings. The patch notes say a session-type change requires restarting the game. Public, friends-only, and invite-only settings are configuration choices—not confirmed fixes for a button that does nothing.
Try these checks in order
These are reasonable first checks, not verified repairs for this specific failure. The August 23 article recommends restarting, updating, and verifying files; the developer’s later patch adds a Steam connection diagnostic.

- Close and relaunch the game and Steam. Exit the game, then quit Steam fully from its system-tray menu before reopening Steam and launching the game again.
- Make sure the game is updated. In Steam, allow any pending update to finish, then retest session creation. Dazed Games continued to publish updates through September 29, 2026, but the reviewed announcement summaries do not confirm a fix for this exact button failure.
- Verify the installed game files. In Steam, open the game’s Properties, select Installed Files, then choose Verify integrity of game files. Let the check finish and retest. This is a general integrity check, not a documented fix for the Create Session problem.
- Check the in-game Steam connection diagnostic. Patch 1.0.9 added a short diagnostic on the main menu. If the Steam relay text turns red, Dazed Games advises checking the common-bugs guidance in its Community Discord.
- If you changed session type, restart. The Patch 1.0.5 notes require a game restart after changing the type in server settings. Do not assume that switching visibility will repair an unresponsive Create Session control.
Is there a confirmed fix?
As of October 7, 2026, no reviewed official announcement explicitly identifies a fix for the exact Create Session-button failure described above. The official news feed includes later updates, including patches 1.1.0, 1.1.2, and 1.1.3, but their summaries do not name this issue. That does not prove every current build remains affected; it means the reviewed announcements do not confirm a resolution.
Likewise, player comments about hosting friends-only sessions are not proof that this setting reliably resolves the problem. Another player reported trouble with both public and invite-only sessions. Treat visibility changes as a way to configure a session, not as an established repair.

Report a persistent problem to Dazed Games
Steam advises players to report third-party game bugs and post-launch multiplayer connection problems to the developer or publisher. How to Fish is listed as developed and published by Dazed Games. Send the exact error, if one appears, or describe in detail what happens.

- Your game version or build, if shown.
- Whether you are hosting or joining, and whether the session is public, friends only, or invite-only.
- The exact step where progress stops and what you see afterward.
- Whether the main-menu relay diagnostic is red.
- Which checks you tried and whether anything changed.
Separate symptoms in your description—for example, “Create Session does nothing” is more useful than reporting only that multiplayer is broken.
